Does anybody know the dates of each Queen TOTP performance ? Seven Seas Of Rhye The first performance, shot in the weather studio was shot (or broadcast ?) according to my information on 21. February 74. link Than, they made a second performance, their first performance in front of an audience : link For some reason, the uploader also claims that this performance was filmed on 21. Feb. 74, but according to my older information it should be from 14. 3. 1974. And of course since last year we have information about a THIRD performance. It's the one which starts at 0:07 at this video : link That one should come from 28. March 1974 Killer Queen The version, which is now officially available : link According to my information it should come from 27. November the same year However I have absolutely no idea when was the second performance filmed link The documentary only labelled it as "October 1974". Does anybody know the correct date ? Now I'm Here Most of us didn't know they actually performed this one until last year's Stormtroopers exhibition link Again, the exhibition video claims it's from "January 75" without the correct day. Is here ANYBODY who can confirm the dates or provide the information about the performances with no date ? |

That's all mimed and is a complete re-recording of the song. TOTP's insisted the artist done this to make the viewer think it was live. Queen always (unknown to the bbc) got away with playing the studio version from the album except for GOFLB and NIH I believe. |

At 1:41, there seems to be video from 3/31/74, Live at the Rainbow. What do you think of this, experts? So besides, Son & Daughter and Modern Times, we have 7 Seas of Rhye from this show? Look at Brian May's blouse, it appears as if we have a match. |
GinjaNinja 14.05.2012 10:35 |
It's from one of the November Rainbow shows I'm afraid. AFAIK QPL only have footage of Son And Daughter & Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll from the March show. I hope the other songs are out there somewhere... |

SSOR is not on the official video release. |
GinjaNinja 15.05.2012 14:44 |
No, but they now (reportedly) have the uncut footage from both November shows (or at least the first night). You will see footage from the first night looking significantly "darker" than the second night's footage, the unedited version shown at the SiS exhibition had a distinctly red tinge to all the areas of the picture which should have been black. Correction of this has resulted in an "odd" look to the footage from the first night I have seen, and so it is easily distinguishable. |

I haven't checked yet, but i believe that he has better looking versions than Queen had in their archives. This guy is star. Because of him we now have great Queen stuff from TOTP. One thing that i don't like in this process is the secrecy. QP make it look like us - the fans - are working against Queen. When we are not! Obviously they read this site to find these kind of gems. They don't interact with fans, they just follow the links, and voilá! Then, not a word from them to let us know if they got it, what's it look like, or just a thank you to the fans who brought this to their attention. Next time someone find these kind of gems and thinks about purchasing it, the advice is - buy first, post links and information later. I kid you not, if they were more "open" with their fans they could have so much more things flying to their archives willingly, it's unbelievable. But they still make business the old way. By the way, do Queen own the rights to their TOTP appearances? |
brENsKi 21.07.2014 12:11 |

We are a big and happy sharing family. If Queen have it, that means we have it! :-) Kidding aside, i said we because i believe it will be released in the future - maybe on their complete greatest hits project. I remember they wet their panties when they've found the "bad" version of this, so i know they must be on the moon with this finding. I just wish they could be more open with the fans, who in the end are responsable for bringing this gems to their attention. But i'm pissed i won't get to see this now. There was a user who downloaded the HQ version of the SSOR from the site, maybe he could uploaded it here for us to see it? That would be fantastic! |
pittrek 21.07.2014 14:49 |
Actually the problem is that the guy got the VHS tapes of a huge amount of TOTP shows. He wanted to sell those tapes to a couple of collectors (I was a member of 2 different groups of people trying to get them from him), but when the transaction should take place, he suddenly disappeared. He stopped replying to emails, removed his youtube videos and even removed his website. I thought he's in jail or something or the BBC lawyers contacted him and he got scared, that's why I'm asking if he contacted anybody else. A few months ago a third attempt was done to get the tapes from him (by AGAIN a DIFFERENT group of people which included me), again with no success. So as far as I know "we" have now just the short SSOR samples which were downloaded by various people from his old youtube channel and re-uploaded. I'm not sure if the footage is in "public hands" or if it's slowly deteriorating in let's say BBC archives. I hope the footage is in "good hands" and the "good hands" will release it someday. When I've seen your post I was hoping you're a part of a FOURTH group of people, which was successful :-) |
Mr.QueenFan 21.07.2014 15:01 |
pittrek wrote: When I've seen your post I was hoping you're a part of a FOURTH group of people, which was successful :-)No, "we" didn't get that far :-) That's one of the problems of bringing this public before the negotiations. I don't think he's in jail, unless those tapes were stolen wich i don't think to be the case. Maybe he was successful selling it to someone. Can you post the YT you have so "we" can appreciate it? |
Nitroboy 22.07.2014 09:16 |
Amazing to see that the whereabouts of this footage has been "known" for almost 2 years, yet nothing has come of it so far because there's a collector somewhere hiding it - even though there are lots of people willing to pay for it... |

Following Queen's appearance and BTO' s song danced to by Pans People, the Sheer Heart Attack LP shot to number two in the album charts and the BTO single shot to number two in the singles chart. Such was the impact of TOTP on sales in those days. |
Moët Et Chandin 08.03.2018 11:52 |
In Queen's case it was The Bay City Rollers LP "Rollin" that kept their album at No2. In BTO 's case it was Mud. Such was the mainstream popularity of hard rock in those days. |
Moët Et Chandin 08.03.2018 11:59 |
A whole period of TOTP was wiped too from March - September 73. A few classic performances were lost there. Slade Sweet Bowie Glitter and others, though they can be found performing hits during this period on footage elsewhere such as on German and Dutch TV |
ScottishTeeVee 03.11.2018 08:45 |
I have the Killer Queen performance from November 21st 1974. Noel Edmunds introduces it and Dave Lee Travis takes over at the end. Quality of recording is near perfect. I have had it for decades, but I thought it was the same performance as seen on the official Queen YouTube channel. I only realised a few days ago that it is a different. performance, it starts the same, with the drum skin, then onto Freddie, but I noticed his hand movements were different. So I digitised my tape, played it side by side with the official versions and realised they are quite different versions and I cannot find my version anywhere on YouTube. |

ScottishTeeVee, the video you are reffering to is from 7th November, and the video you uploaded is from 11th October or 27th October, I'm not sure. They are 2 different versions, very similar though. |
ScottishTeeVee 03.11.2018 17:49 |
Chopin1995. "Watch my video and the version from the official Queen YouTube channel side by side and watch very close. Look at Freddie's hand 17 seconds in, on my version he slides his right hand up the microphone stand, on the Queen official version, he slides his left hand up the stand. In the first few seconds look at his index finger, in my video it is almost pointing straight up, on the Queen official version its down.I could go on, they are clearly different performances, no doubt recorded back to back." I already had this discussion with another viewer and the above was my reply to him on YouTube. This was his reply "Done that. Yes, you are absolutely right. Plus Roger Taylor spins the drum sticks twice on your version at 55 seconds and only once on the other official version. Can only be another performance. Thanks for the reply" |

Based on what Sikke wrote her last year there were 3 performances shot there - 2 of them in front of the blocks, one in front of a blue screen |
dysan 05.11.2018 14:57 |
Hmm interesting. There is a weird halo around Brian's Hair that suggests they were on a blue screen. I've seen lots of TopPop stuff from around then. Hit or Miss seems to be the rule. Do all 3 versions exist? I do know that TopPop usually edited their clips or include a few takes or inserts (as opposed to TOTP 'live' clips) - see the 2 Bowie's in his Rebel Rebel clip link and Catapult doing some cool poses running through Let Your Hair Hang Down link (both 1974) so perhaps what what we see is a mix of shots with real blocks and some with blue screen blocks? |

Couldn't find the performance by Legs and Co. to "Somebody To Love" one of their ( Legs and Co) early performances on the show, all the others still exist, clips or full length The performance of Seven Seas, their very first on TOTP, on the 21 February 1974 was eagerly watched by the band through the windows of an electrical shop on their way home from recording in London. It was a last minute replacement for David Bowie who couldn't make it to do "Rebel Rebel". It exists in black and white. |
