hey there.
me and a friend formed a slightly different queen tribute act. we're called "DYNAMITE WITH A LASER BEAM" and we're just 2 guys - on vocals and piano. we do the rather quiet, melancholic and lesser known songs.
this is a rough video from rehearsal. nothing much to see but the reflections in the piano since we're a bit shy.
so here we are. give us all you got. the love, the hate...everything.
thanks.
we're playing 3 shows in germany around november 24th. link
cheers.
here's the setlist:
play the game
jealousy
lily of the valley
life is real
dear friends
love of my life
you take my breath away
you're my best friend
nevermore
save me
good old fashioned loverboy
spread your wings
these are the days of our lives
nice. better than what i expected.. i'm not a fan of these tribute acts, where somebody (poorly) tries to imitate freddie,
but these kinds of tributes are always welcome! hope to see more vids from you.
cheers. much appreciated. i don't like the fake beard things too... i'd rather try to do the songs in my own way, with all due respect of course.
first show is tonight. will try to film some of it.
You sound pretty good to me. I do have a few thoughts for things that might, in my humble opinion, improve your sound. I ask you to consider them, which is not the same as asking you to implement them.
I would recommend you try to find a bass player. I think your sound needs an instrumental contrast to the piano, and I personally believe a bass would work best.
The piano part sounds very well. You could, perhaps, provide slightly more tension and release by anticipating or delaying a few fractions of a second the rhythm that you are implying, while the vocals stick to the strict rhythm.
The vocals are good. I'm not sure you were on pitch for every note - very slight mistakes can provide clashes with the piano, which are more obvious than usual in such a light arrangement as this.
Good luck - what a pleasure to sing Queen.
Perhaps in the future you can expand your set list to include My Melancholy Blues and
Too Much Love Will Kill You.
Now - what's this business about being shy/incognito and we can't see you? I guess Freddie did one of his
first performances with his back to the audience - so I understand shy - but time now to carry on and rock it out!
@thomasquinn:
thanks for the advice. after all, the vide is just shot from the practice room. no big deal. but a bass palyer, maybe even a drummer would be interesting. on the other hand, I really like the minimized version of these massive arrangements.
@queen usa: thanks. we want to do my melancholy blues but since we had very little time to rehearse we kept that one for later. great song. about being shy: that was just a joke. we'll try to shoot hd clips of the show thursday 24th and post them if they are any good...
