Freddie was honored in the opening of the Rock in Rio 2011. Watch the video: link link |

That was fucking awful. |
mooghead 26.09.2011 16:16 |
That was NOT a tribute. Shitting on his grave would have been more of a tribute. Utterly horrible. No heart, no soul, just some people wanting to get on Queen messageboards via youtube. |
MadTheSwine73 26.09.2011 18:51 |
I sent it to three of my friends telling them it was a new Queen demo. They got so pissed! Either way, I agree with moog. Shitting on him would have been a better tribute. But at least they thought of him. |

Before this awful cover they put in the big screens the video of Freddie and Brian from the first Rock in Rio singing the first part of LOML link Here is the same, but from the Live TV broadcast (Brian and Freddie appear on 5:28) link |

Oh my god guys!!! I mean really? Yes this guy wasn't the best singer in the world but that wasn't the point of it. The real tribute was the video they showed before the and clips of him being shown on the big screen while the orchestra was playing. Even though the guy who sang it was a terrible singer, do you know just how great of a tribute this was? It was basically reminding everyone to remember one of the most important (if not the most important) figures who ever performed at Rock in Rio and also to remind everyone just how special he was. It's stuff like this that keeps his great legacy alive especially since so many people were in the audience and watching the concert on TV, youtube, etc... Besides the Freddie tribute concert in 1992, I think this is one of the best tributes I've ever seen for him. "Shitting on his grave would have been a better tribute"??? All I gotta say to that is GROW UP! |

For those unfamiliar, Milton is recognized worldwide as one of the most influential and talented singer-songwriters of Brazilian popular music. He has 68 years and experienced numerous health problems. Fortunately today controlled. Son of a maid, was given to a couple with financial wealth, because the mother hadbeen fired and was in a state of total misery. Even with so many problems and prejudices he won as an artist and got this mission topay homage to Freddie because it is a winner like him. I know he really did not sing well, but we must consider the age and health problems!Even with all the difficulty he faced was that and do what he loves most in life: sing! As well as Freddie did in the last moments of his life, when the victim was suffering fromAIDS. I urge greater respect for colleagues Queenzone because Milton here is very much loved and respected. He was also a big fan of Queen. I also invite everyone to know his work with the example of this very famous song: link And to prove how much he is recognized worldwide, here is James Taylor singing oneof his songs: link singing duets link |

and as Freddie, is known to reach very high notes! unfortunately, life was tough with Milton too! |

As Nanda said, Milton Nascimento is a legend here in Brazil and played with lots of great artists like Jon Anderson, Peter Gabriel, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock ... But he wasn't the right choice for singing this song, he already sang in another Rock in Rio opening (2001) and butchered Imagine, with Gilberto Gil. The audience in this first day was horrible too, they came to see Rihanna and Katy Perry and gave a very cold reception to Elton John, wich played an awesome gig. That's why you don't see them singing Love of My Life, the average public was between 14 - 20 years old. |

Legend or not. This is horrible. I can't call this a tribute. |

I care, as well as many others that believe in the real art of music. The performance was not good...But now I say, so what? That was Milton Nascimento...One of Brazilian's best voices, and songwriters, for the past 35 years.....The point is, some people tend to disrespect real artists due to an unfortunate performance...Freddie couldn't sing in the Japan 79 gig, but yet many fans have the video and enjoy despite Freddie's problems to sing. Indeed, I prefer listening to a bad Queen performance rather than to some recent s***t we have everyday in the charts. My feeling is that the performance at Rock in Rio was a tribute to Milton as well. He changed the lives of many people with his music, geniality and passion. Good bless Milton and Queen...I enjoy listening to Milton's performance as well as I do watching Brian's save me solo in Hammy 79. It's all about feelings and love....In the same sense, I don't care if Brian puts a wrong note, if he misses a solo, or if he breaks a string.....In the end, nobody will ever EVER sound like him...the same with Milton. By the way, its the first time I answer to a topic here. I would like to take this opportunity to Thank several of the Queen fans here that worked on, and shared amazing material over the years. People put work on these things and its great to see such generosity. People like Pittrek, SirGH, GingaNinja, and many others. Thanks... |

dear, this was not a tribute was an honor! the author of the post in no time referred to what happened as a tribute. then, before the swearing Milton, you must understand that there is a big difference musically enters the words "tribute and "honor." it is obvious that his performance was bad and I said so, but respect those who do their work honestly and with merit for this is at least necessary. After all, how many of us here would have the real possibility of being on top of a stage singing a song in tribute to Queen and Freddie? Milton had. |

I heard a rumour that at the Superbowl, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson and the dead guy from Boney M are going to do Bohemian Rhapsody as a tribute. All right I made that up, but I think we all get that this guy is a national singing hero in Brazil, but that doesn't mean he should have been trying to sing Freddie. I say the same thing about American icons like the modern day Brian Wilson (sings tone deaf) and Bob Dylan (voice is shot). |

OH MY FUCKIN GOD. THE REAL TRIBUTE WAS NOT THIS MILTON GUY BUT THE FACT THAT THEY PLAYED CLIPS FROM RIR '85 OF FREDDIE IN ONE OF HIS MOST GLORIOUS MOMENTS why is everyone talking about this Milton guy? yes they could have chosen someone better but who the fuck cares when you had an amazing tribute right before it. He didn't ruin anything. |

OK, don't want to pile on here but I think there would have been slightly better results if somebody had dug up Freddie and sent him out to honour Milton.. |
Matheusms 27.09.2011 22:18 |
For those who want to know Milton Nascimento when he could sing (and very well), search for "Clube da Esquina I & II" and the album "Minas". This opening was a kind of homage to Freddie, Queen and Milton Nascimento, it wasn't meant to be Marc Martel doing some Freddie impersonation. |

ok it is easy to understand that i was saying that the man was a shit, well i could not say that for any human. BUT the thing that came out was a pure shit. english press talked too bad about queen and they were wrong cos they could play well and FREDDIE COULD SING WONDERFULLY ps you look charming nadia ;) |

Very 'Freddie' humour actually. :) Look, it's a shame he couldn't manage it. They clearly wanted to do it out of admiration for Queen, that's fine. Just a shame it didn't go as planned. |

I just want you to think how to be sad for Milton one day having already sung beautifullyand now can not sing so well for health reasons ... I do not know in your country, but here in Brazil we greatly appreciate the feeling of compassion with our artists ... In a country so full of inequities as ours, these people that allow us to be more happy through music are valuable treasures! here also lost two rock legends because of AIDS, a man named Cazuza (died in 1990and was the first singer to assert that he had the HIV virus) and another man calledRenato Russo (who died In 1996), both homosexual and fantastic lyricists like Freddie! (these two singers is very worthwhile to know, look!) you do not feel sad to think that all these "treasures" of our music are dying or getting oldso that they can not sing anymore? I think : ( and thanks for the compliment ;) |
