Hi! Well... since today is the anniversary of his GREAT and in some cases UNDERATED concert, and since it seems QP don't care the anniversary of hyde park and they only have the wembley anniversary on mind... i decided post my version of it... Initialy i don't wanted to share this gig... but due the (many) requests that i recived throught the months i decided finnaly share this concert but i want to advert one or two things: - The quality for much people (i.e pittrek who has a very trained eye ha ha) will be a bit "ghostly" but is almost as my tape looks... i only add a little balance on some coulors wich was very satured... - I just realize the other day that since i use the highest bitrate possible (near 12 Mps, average bitrate ,3 pass) the dvd could don't work proepely on some old dvds players but on all the pc that i tried it works perfect - The audio is Excelent (for the standards of the common bootleg) as i use the Sir Gh matrix/merge and i udupate a bit with some little parts of the audio from the recently bbc documental - The dvd authory is mine and of course isn't the best... the same for the artwork... pero seguro de eso puede encargarse gente como Ale Solan ja ja (te mande al frente, pero al menos en español) * Just in case, here i will post on mediafire all the "'39" performance (only a bit compressed to agilize the temporal download) extracted of my burned dvd, if you don't like the quality of this sample please Do not wast your time and Do not download the dvd: link * Do you want even more? Here a .rar with some screenshots of some moments of the dvd on 720 x 576 resolution (The dvd is Pal since is the norm of my country) link * Here a screenshot of the dvd menu: * Here a screenshot of all the dvd (that the little pictures don't fool you!) http://www.imagengratis.org/thumbs/thumbs201zm9fz.png" border="0"> * Here the -awful- Artwork: And the most important: * Here the link to the Mediafire folder: link QP could upload some of the hyde park gig on Youtube today..... Thanks Merqry ! I wish I had known you were planning on sharing this, as I would have sent you my updated merge. There are more bits from BoRhap and Ogre Battle from the Days Of Our Lives documentary, and of course You Take My Breath Away from the ADATR bonus disc.. |
brians wig 18.09.2011 18:30 |
For future reference, 10mb/s is the MAXIMUM bitrate a DVD player will cope with (that's the video and audio combined) and many older machines won't even accept that, which is one of the reasons that very few commercially available DVDs go beyond 8mb/s. The max bitrate for the video element is 7.8, so you certainly need to make sure that any future encoding you do takes account of this. On the other hand, the higher bitrate won't be a problem to folks who will be playing on their PC or a media player (or even burn to a bluray disc!), and of course the higher the bitrate the less artefacting! |

The Real Wizard 18.09.2011 19:58 |
It's all a matter of taste. It's just a way to create a version of the concert that has the best possible audio throughout. Indeed, some people prefer to have the quality remain constant. Sometimes it even depends on which show it is. |

The maximum video bitrate for DVD is 9.8 MBps for mpeg2 or 1.856 MBps for mpeg1 (thank god I haven't seen mpeg1-sourced DVDs for many, many years). The maximum bitrate for ALL streams TOGETHER is 10.08MBps (video + audio + subpicture streams). Also I play many DVDs on my PC via PowerDVD and the version I'm using (because it came with my DVD burner) has BIG problems if the max bitrate jumps over 10.08MBps. It actually STOPS the video playback for a short time, but the audio playback continues, so the rest of the DVD has pretty bad video-audio synchronization problems ! I have no idea if other players have problems with it too or if it's just a PowerDVD problem, but my (older) standalone Toshiba player always stops the DVD playback COMPLETELY and returns back to the menu as soon as the bitrate exceeds the specifications |

Would like the views of someone whos downloaded n watched it on a tv screen as its often hard to tell by a screenshot :) =========================================== The "usual DVD with the RT menu" was done by me back in 2001. It's from a mono QTV transmission and only has single channel audio (centre channel), because it seemed pointless using two channel audio as TV's back then would still output it to their left and right channels. Being a fussy bugger for quality (and I'll ALWAYS favour video quality over a PCM soundtrack!), I'll let you know later today how it compares. |

Be warned. It probably won't work in a DVD player because of the high bitrate of the video, but it SHOULD work in a bluray player. (though don't quote me on that!) |

QUALITY COMPARISON BETWEEN THIS AND THE 'OLD' VERSION WITH THE ROGER TAYLOR MENU Okay, I've done an A/B test with this download and the DVD I made 10 years ago and have found the following: 1) The Audio on this 'new' version is better than the audio on mine (no surprise there!) 2) This new version appears to be a generation higher than mine. However, there are pros and cons with each version: Whilst mine looks a generation lower than this one and contains the QTV logo, this one still has the QTV logo, though it has been 'cleaned off' by the software that "removes logos". You can see a fuzzy box where the QTV logo should be. This 'new' version also has horizontal picture wobble (I can't descibe it any better than that) whereas mine doesn't, but this could simply have bee caused during the capture procedure from VHS IF the person who did it has used a VHS player with built in TBC. The colours on this 'new' version are more stable, as though they were played from a VHS recorder with built in "Time Base Corrector", either that or it's been run through some additional software like "Neat Video" - something which wasn't available 10 years ago. So. It's a toss up really between a 'clean' looking picture that suffers from horizontal 'banding' wobbling, or the old picture that doesn't wobble but isn't quite as good. Mine is the original recording onto VHS from the QTV 'broadcast', so they're both form the same master-tape effectively. It's all down to which convention venue the 'new' one was recorded (It's pre-2000, I can tell you that because the picture doesn't suffer from Channel 5 interference!) and where in-line from the source the chalet was! I'm convinced that the chalets at Prestatyn were all connected via cable and the further down the line you were, the worse the signal was. Of course, being recorded on a new machine, an old machine or even an SVHS recorder will also make the difference between quality! |

I checked the video and it's really nice. I've been wondering how did you manage to deal the fact that you are joining a 16:9 source with a 4:3 source and your method is very "original" :-) The professionally released bits were 16:9, so they now look stretched, but otherwise it looks pretty good. Thanks for the share |

Thanks very much ! This version has the best picture (video) quality and audio quality I've ever come across for this historic gig ! However, I think that patching/splicing in "modern" parts of the songs was a mistake because the band look too tall compared to the time-coded footage (aspect-ratio or cropping difference). I know it is asking a lot but It would be great if you could share just the original time-coded footage with the Queen fan community. Then in the future, other "producers" (like Pittrek) could attempt to improve the concert with both audio and video "upgrades" ... Thanks again ! And please, please share the original (with this audio) with us. That would be a great Christmas present, and I would thank God for it !!! |
peckery 24.09.2011 03:55 |
Hi again, Merq ! I must add, if you can work out how to merge in the new, excellent quality footage with the correct aspect ratio as the time-coded footage (so the band do not appear too tall and thin), that would be great ! You could call it version 2 or version 1.1 or something ! Well done for your efforts so far - your enthusiasm and love is touching .... Please continue with this work of love ! |

- I just realize the other day that since i use the highest bitrate possible (near 12 Mps, average bitrate ,3 pass) the dvd could don't work proepely on some old dvds players but on all the pc that i tried it works perfectThanks for the upload. Does the above mean that you frameserved it through CCE? |
