Under Pressure The biggest stress of my life.I played the piano , but was told it would be erased if I did not shut my mouth (like a true china girl!)So I said I would not come knocking on their door, because I thought that they might , if it was a big success, look after me after all, in my oldage. But they have not. Will they have.Ha! Ha! just like our governments who won't pay us anything for our pensions either. So the rebels became the royalty who had criticised the rich and now behave just like the rristocracy they made so much money rebelling against.Oh dear! there's going to be so much trouble and so very soon, i'm happy to be stuck in a hospital with curable cancer! (have to be kidding)Good night all,be back tomorrow with some more recent stuff that's really good and copyright free!Love you all, and thank you so much for your appreciation and friendship.Oh dear! there's going to be so much trouble and so very soon, i'm happy to be stuck in a hospital with curable (my arse) cancer! |

What?.... So is he ill? if so very sad hope he gets better, as for this I have no idea where to start? |
Rubbersuit 15.09.2011 08:08 |
Weird post. I take it he has cancer and is now flinging shots at Queen for not getting royalties for playing piano on Under Pressure - even though he admits he said he wouldn't ask them for money if they left it in. His comment about "hoping to be looked after" by Queen makes no sense since they did look after him by continually giving him work right until the end. Brian even used him on his solo projects. Money must be tight and now old grudges are bubbling up. |
Togg 15.09.2011 09:07 |
If it is really him and he did play on it, what's the problem with people knowing? Secondly why would he assume he'd be looked after??? he did a job got paid for it and moved on, he owns and runs mountain studios so as he must have at some point bought the studio from Queen one can assume he had at least at that point a fair amount of cash, if he didnt make it a commercial success and then ran out of money that's not anyone elses fault, we all make our own choices in life. Seems a very strange post to me and to be honest it doesnt sound like him at all so I would be somewhat sceptical of it's origin |
plumrach 15.09.2011 09:15 |
I noticed that today and last night he has put a lot of comments on and that itself is unusual because he rarely posts anything |
cmsdrums 15.09.2011 12:21 |
It's a very odd post, that's for sure. It doesn't read well, and on all the footage I've seen and heard of David Richards he has always seemed very eloquent. He has also always seemed loyal and respectful in all things regarding Queen too do I am surprised at this. Perhaps he is ill as stated and his medication has made him 'slightly mad' (pardon the pun). He always seemed to go down well with the band and worked on nearly all of Roger's solo stuff back to Fun In Space, and Queen from 86 to MIH. I always found his sound - especially the drums - the best overall match for Queen and I was always disappointed that they moved over to exclusively using Brian's in house team of Justin Shirley-Smith and Kris Fredriksson (who have seriously arsed up a lot of Queen audio in the last few years). It was no coincidence that on the sound of the 46664 concerts Queen sounded a lot better than recent stuff at the time, and David Richards produced/mixed those. Surely after all the involvement with them over the years, especially Roger's solo stuff and Freddie's last days, they would have been friends as opposed to colleagues? If so, and this is real, it is somewhat disheartening and sad to hear. |

He says he was booted from the studio after it turned into a casino. Something isn't adding up here.. Some of his comments sound pretty suicidal to me. The music business really does fuck with a lot of people. Hope he keeps busy and pulls through. He's a brilliant man. |
cmsdrums 15.09.2011 13:08 |
link. According to this 4 old month link, Richards was still actively producing. He could have become ill since |

I've just found DR's FB page, and it appears he he has cancer of the tongue (he has this posted on his public profile so I'm not giving out anything confidential.) David - if you are reading this, may I wish you every success in your battle; regardless of how you nay currently feel about the band, your place in their legacy, and your large contribution to their work, is not underestimate, and is vastly appreciated, by a large number of fans. Best wishes |
OneTrackMind 15.09.2011 14:09 |
Maybe if it's true that he's ill, he may be just disillusioned about it all and lashing out.. I hope he makes a full recovery, I'm sure he will! |

he also posted some things about his divorce, seemed quite pissed off.. btw when someone asked what did he think of the new remasters, he replied that havent listened them and that he was upset/angry that "they" didnt send the remasters to him to approve them.. now he has deleted his fb profile. |

Right there in your face, literally and figuratively, among other factors. Really tough. If I wasn't such a half assed Catholic I'd say some prayers. |

Hmm, this comes at a weird time. I've been thinking about Davd Richards a lot past few months. The reason are mainly the new remasters and that I also do studio engineering full time. I was listening to remasters and thought about Miracle, Innuendo and MIH and the great sound that these albums have, even BEFORE re-mastering. And they were all done by David Richards. I've seen some interviews of him from the past and he always seemed to be a clean and straight guy, bit intelligent also? Then came the new two-part documentary "The Days of Our Lives", where David seemed to be totally drunk (or on cocaine) while giving his interview. I was a bit shaken when I saw this and then I really started to think that something is maybe wrong? So all this info about his "decline" and comments on facebook seem to be connected to what I saw... It's possible that he feels let down. As a producer/engineer you put a lot of energy, emotion and artistic input (if you are an artistic and emotional person) to the record. It could be possible that after Queen there was a huge void in his musical world and maybe he doesn't feel he was treated right after all these years? Maybe it's something about money or royalties or something. Or maybe he is just in pieces after a divorse or smth?... But anyway, lots of good luck fro you David Richards. You are a hell of a producer and made the best sounding Queen alvums (to my taste) Miracle and MIH. Godspeed, and all the best for you. Hopefully you get well soon and be back in producing wonderful stuff. Music business really fucks up people....in a lots of different ways.. |

Strange though, Brian went to great lengths to make sure that See What A Fool I've Been wasn't taken from an old song, and he's been quoted tons of times about wanting to give and get credit where it's due. If indeed (only one person's side of the story) they did say they'd take care of him, there's a huge contradiction coming into play here. He'll try to search out old musicians to pay them money that may or may not be theirs, but an organization that he's a director of won't pay the help what they're entitled to based on the (uncredited to boot) work they've done? WTF. |

>>>> Strange though, Brian went to great lengths to make sure that See What A Fool I've Been wasn't taken from an old song, and he's been quoted tons of times about wanting to give and get credit where it's due Not really great lengths actually ... he's been quoted to claim he wish he knew who it was, but if he had made a very small effort like asking Tim or the Fan Club, he'd learnt about the authors as early as 1975, and would've been able to meet them in person before they passed away in 86 and 96 respectively. But it was never a priority for him. |

You're being pedantic, Sebastian. The reason he wanted to meet or know of them is that he wanted to give them credit if he ripped off their song. It bothered him, there is no denying that. So, if it bothered him that he might have been upset about unintentionally infringing on someone's creative property (who he'd never met), wouldn't it make sense that it would bother him that a guy who worked for them, who he knew well, and contributed to a track's success (it wasn't an obscure B-side) didn't deserve the same recognition and rewards that some blues musicians he'd never met deserved? Not saying DR is right or wrong, but Brian has always spoken out about the importance of people receiving credit for the work they do, as he is an exemplary human being in a business filled with shits. And I mean that respectfully. Just seems odd he wouldn't right the alleged wrong. If DR is lying, shame on him. |

Could be the drugs talking, too. I've seen first hand the emotional turmoil and imbalances they cause. Otherwise everyday things or off-hand comments can set the person off on wild extremes they cannot control. The piano thing might not have bugged Richards in 1981, but now he's piling all his stress and anger at the world on things he's thinking about during an unpleasant hospital stay. Or it's all genuine. I don't know. The rambling and the tone of the post don't sound rational to me, but then I don't know the man. He might just have a dark sense of humour. Either way, I hope for the best for him, that he recovers and lives a long, healthy life! |

Thanks for posting that Facebook entry. It certainly is distressing to hear of David being so upset. I met him in Montreux once and not only did he not mind me practically walking in to his flat while he was making a cup of tea he remembered my name as I had phoned him the previous week asking about visiting the studio. Get well soon David. |
Mkls 04.12.2013 16:49 |
some of you might be interested to know that David Richards was actually there and attended the opening of the Montreux studio experience this Monday. At one point he came out from the party area, visited the studio and shook hands with some fans. however. the very sad thing he exactly looked like someone who survived a long cancer fight or ... or still fighting who knows.,, he aged 15 years during 2 years and now looking like a 75 year old man, very frail thin .... still he was keen to talk a few words and shake hands with the fans .. great man, sad story. :- ( |

Is there any footage/stills of Richards with Brian and Roger from Monday? As we got some shots of them at the desk with some marketing/money men, it would be nice to know if Richards was afforded the same courtesy.... |
ploughman 06.12.2013 03:04 |
David should really deserve a bigger recognition in this. I always find that his work on Miracle -album alone, would put him up there with the greatest. The whole album was done on a analog tape, yet he programmed all these complicated middle-bits in Was it All Worth it (otherwise with live band playing) and all in all the sounds and power on that album are truly a great piece of work. Not to mention the laborous task of compiling the whole Made in Heaven album! |

Brian and Roger both met with David Richards during the opening of Queen: The Studio Experience. They took some photos together at the reception (for example: link ) - they are all smiling and nothing seems out of place. Brian also praised and thanked David in his speech, even saying he was one of the reasons for Queen staying in Montreux. |
