Hello,
I wonder if anybody knows when was the first time that Freddie did the "Deee-yooo!" kind of vocal/audience interaction (as we know from Live Killers' Now I'm Here)?
Thanks in Advance!
It's currently impossible to give an exact date, since we still haven't heard recordings of many shows. But here's what we do know..
The first known instance of Freddie doing any kind of vocal exchange with an audience is during Liar in Kobe on 4-23-75. This didn't happen in Tokyo on 4-19-75 (the first night of the first Japanese tour), and the Nagoya 4-22-75 tape is very incomplete. So we can likely narrow this down to Nagoya or Kobe.
The vocal bit in Now I'm Here started in 1978, either late November or in Montreal on Dec 1 (that's the first known recording of it).
Hope this helps :-)
No prob!
It was just because the Japanese audiences were so responsive. It took a few years for his stage persona to develop to the point that this became a regular part of the show.
I was in montreal 1st december at the forum, and we sing with him, but very shyly, and i read somewhere that it was the first time it happens to queen, may be it was on love of my life, i was so close to the stage that i was in the show, living it, when the top opened i received 600 lights by the mouth and for the singing i remember that i was surprised but by that time everybody wants to sing like freddie, so may be people took the invitation and sang with him, i've never heard the bootleg
And now you can :-) link
Thanks for sharing your story. The singing was definitely in Now I'm Here, not in Love Of My Life. North American audiences never sang along to Love Of My Life ... but they did just about everywhere else in the world.
Also check out my website link for some pictures taken at the Montreal show.

It could have very well been Love of my Life. Remember that just because the recording didn't capture audience members singing the song it doesn't mean that no one attempted to somewhere far enough from the recorder which didn't capture it. I've actually heard several North American gigs where the audience sings along to that song... Montreal '81 being an example (even though Freddie says "you don't know it").
But then again, it could have still been during Now I'm Here and you have a point SirGH like always :)

I always assumed Freddie's comments referred to the song's lyrics: "You don't know what it means to me... ... you don't know it."
I guess I was wrong because I don't recall Freddie saying that ad-lib in any other live version.

For the Queen Rocks Montreal release, the audience was added from another show ... I guarantee you.
Trust me, I've heard about 30 audience tapes from 77-80 US/Canada shows, and the audience never sang along to LOML, even after Live Killers was released. North Americans just don't like singing at concerts. It's a cultural thing - they just want to be blown away by what's happening on stage.
