On the new documentary footage on the wembley DVD, Brian comments that this was the first tour they made money on as it was 'before sponsorship, you know, it wasn't this beer or that beer sponsors Queen'. Now I haven't looked this up again, but I swear that at least a date or two on the Magic tour was 'presented/sponsored' by Harp, which was a popular lager at the time. Am I imagining it, or has Brian given a very specific example which again is completely wrong?!?
Yes it was Harp a crap cheap lager lol
Brian and his memory hmm.... remember what he said as he introduced Tom Chaplin from the band Keane something like it's the first time "It's a Hard life" has been performed live etc.. (The Works tour anyone? lol) or maybe he was just kissing celebrity ASS!!! lol
Also He said on the 2005 Q+PR tour at Sheffield (return of the champions) that it's nearly been 20 years since we last tread the boards at Sheffield. Huh????? 2005 - 19 years (nearly 20 years) = 1986. Did Queen Play Sheffield on the Magic tour,? "of course they did Brian...................Not!!!!!!!"
To be fair to Brian he always seems to have got an awful lot going on. Not surprising as a sharp mind is usually a very busy one, and as a result he's had a multitude of new experiences and buckets of new information to catalogue and file away. A few things are likely to fall off the back end. That said, it does seem wise to seek a second opinion when he makes some assertion related to the minutiae of Queen history.
Yeah, there are a lot more people here who know what Brian has done in his past than Brian himself. I'm sure that many years of intensive touring becomes a blur after a while...
As a musician, I can't remember all the places that I've played at from even ten years ago. Brian has played many many more places than I ever have or ever will, both with Queen and on his own. I can't hold him accountable of he forgets a song or two that he played in 1984, or the last time he played at a venue in town, even if he was off by a couple years. Alot of us become (myself included) very critical, and jump the gun too quick. I'm juuust saying...

When referring to Queen I think Roger's memory stands out. If you want to know how long the toenails of badgers can grow, ask Brian. :-)
Just kiddin' I think, proof on the various commentary thingies on the Queen DVD's, Roger seems to remember a lot more of the Queen history.
Another example is Brian 'discovering' through a fan in 2004 that See What a Fool I've Been is based on a Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee song. I remember the fan club informing me of this fact in the seventies...after having asked Brian!
I suspect that it's not Brian's memory that is failing him, but his honesty.
I am getting the distinct impression that Brian's either very short on cash, or is turning into a nasty, money-grubbing fraud in his old age.

"If he's off by a couple of years" at this stage Queen had only played Sheffield once in 1974, But we all love Brian, so we'll let him off. Let's see what my memory is like in 20 years when I'm 65!!!!

Just to add to the memory thread.... Brian also said at the Toronto Q+PR show that it was the first time "Under Pressure" had ever been played in North America... forgetting the Montreal 1982 shows.
To be fair, Brian has lived fifty lives compared to most people. Stuff for him that is minutiae is probably ultra important to someone else. Poor guy can't win. I was once good at something in my life, I have a fantastic memory, and 25 years after an event someone came up to me explaining something that I did in vivid detail, and I had no idea what the hell they were talking about or who they were. For them, it was a moment worth retelling a quarter of a century later. Fore me, it was a moment that I didn't even know had happened.
Sure, but that doesn't mean pointing out Brian's memory's not perfect is in ANY way an insult to him.
Things are the way they are.
I wouldn't be offended if somebody pointed out I'm not a chemist because, the fact of the matter is, I'm not a chemist.
Same here: there's no offence in saying Brian's memory's not eidetic. Because the fact of the matter is, it isn't.
