Hi all, I've read about A Kind Of Magic sessions and they have been done from September 85 to April 86 (in words of Greg Brooks link. But now reading and listeng the preview of the new tracks of the Deluxe edition of AKOM album, it will included a Demo version of AKMO from August 85....how can be possible?.
A similar case was Sail Away Sweet Sisters on the deluxe edition.....dates didn't match
My thoughts:
1) This track could be a home demo...but sound very clear to be a home tape so i discard this option
2) Sessions may have been begun near to the end of August
3) Again...someone is lying
We have to wait to get the release in hands for more info (If it is detailed on the bookmark)
Thoughts?
Here are your options:
* Email Brian about it. Chances are, you'll receive a rude reply which will get deleted later on but the idiot in charge of erasing it will leave the header. So much for meticulous work.
* Read Greg's book. After counting (or trying to estimate) the amount of inaccuracies it's got, consider ourselves lucky that the AKOM demo wasn't dated 14th February 1899.
* BTW, the cited QOL article has several mistakes and omissions as well.
Most likely, Magic/Highlander sessions began in August, or maybe even late July, as Freddie in particular became too excited after Live Aid and quickly summoned the others in the studio.

'Home' demos in the case of Queen will usually be studio quality - we're not talking a tape recorder perched on someone's lap in the case of thes guys, but mutlitrack studios set up in their homes.
Having said that, this won't be a home demo by Roger before the AKOM sessions began because it would surely have his vocals on it, and not Freddie's??

Thanks for commenting on this Sebastian - I'm still amazed and rather angry about the response, and the deletion of it, when I thought i'd raised a valid question/observation.
I'd asked a question about whether some bass durmwas missing from the 'restored version', and one of the 'Experts' on Brian's page replied, and I quote......
"How could you possibly be concerned about something so trivial. . . I don't care".
The reply was then deleted from Brian's site soon after, although they kinldy left my name on there next to someone else's question!
The demo of "A Kind of Magic" on the forthcoming deluxe edition is listed as being from August 1985. The preview on iTunes demonstrates that it has the same basic melody and lyrics as the finished track; however, the chorus is "One man, One soul: One Vision". This precedes the recording of One Vision (as we know it) by a month.
Therefore, it seems that this one demo, ostensibly about Martin Luther King, spawned One Vision, and then was pillaged at a later date for A Kind of Magic: recycling the melody and some of the lyrics in the process.
Thank you, Sebastian!
I've heard that version many times, it's quite good. Strange that I haven't heard/read about it before...
Always nice to learn something new about Queen.
