British rockers Queen are to receive a lifetime achievement honour at this year's (11) Bmi London Awards.
The Bohemian Rhapsody hitmakers, comprising of late frontman Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, will be named Bmi Icons at the annual event, which takes place on 04 October (11) at London's Dorchester Hotel.
The award by bosses at Broadcast Music, Inc honours those who have had "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers", and Queen will join previous recipients including Don Black, Van Morrison, the Bee Gees, James Brown and Willie Nelson.
Queen is so deserving of this award. It will be a special night for them, their families and millions of fans who love Queen's music.
However, this situation presents a tight spot for John. Can he be persuaded to appear alongside his band mates for one evening?
It's about time! Twenty years after Freddie's death, they are recognizing a band that was in my mind as great, if not greater than the Beatles!!!
Wish Freddie were here to see that the band he helped form in the early 70s flourishes even today, and that their music is still loved and revered worldwide. That was his greatest wish, that even though he was dying, his music should live on!
John will be there, I think, because this is the Ultimate Award that any musician could receive.
It could be the start of something beautiful, actually. This could be the beginning of a Queen revival and hopefully some touring again. So many fans would love to see them perform again! Queen Forever!
Unfortunately John won't be there. He's had numerous chances to appear at one off events over the years - Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction, UK music Hall of Fame, WWRY premiere, The Cosmos Rocks album which wouldn't even require him appearing in public, Stormtroopers In Stilletoes etc...etc.... I'd love to be wrong bit it just won't happen I'm afraid - he's very and totally retired.

John has earned the millions AND the right to stay low-key. It;s his wish, and you need to be more respectful of that. It'd be great to see him, but it's unfair to call him selfish.
