I have read a bunch of QZers' posts and I've found out that some of you make bad jokes against Queen, support bad sources which tell shit about Queen, etc., etc. Can anybody please tell me what is this? P.S. Please don't use your usual sarcasm. If you don't like this topic, please ignore it. |

To be a fan of someone like Queen, you have to have your eyes open. It's impossible to be in love with absolutely everything the band produce, they may be better than most, but nobody is perfect. The reason some people slag off Queen on this forum is because they can. They might not be happy with something and want to see other peoples opinions on it. Do you really think the majority of these people would research everything they can, spend years listening to their music, and so much time on these forums, searching for any info they can, if they wern't fans? I may slag them off, because I don't necessarily agree with something QP have done, or I may detest a song here or there (Don't Lose Your Head :P), but I can assure you, I'm a massive fan, and the reason I come onto this site is because it's not all 'fans' who 'love' Queen, but wouldn't be able to name three songs of Queen's to you. It's fans who have mostly done their homework, so therefore have valid input. Of course there are debates and arguments, but that's what I love, because it means everyone has an opinion, wether they like something or not. Now THAT, is a fan. Someone who can say 'I love that band, but THAT was SHIT!' |

If so, what you actually mean is "stepford fan", a sub-category all of its own. |

By far, most posts are focussed on the topic and music and there's some joking around for sure . Then again .... I've seen on QZ derogatory bits about Freddie (of a highly personal nature) - it has nothing to do with a critique of the music. I've seen on QZ comments about John (meant to be comedy) that he's dead. How hilarious is that to John's family or fans? More recently, a black & white photo was posted to QZ of the four band members on stage - the photo was altered so that Freddie's head was replaced by a screeching skull (presumably, this was meant to be comedy as well). Hilarious or disturbing? Would you buy a death mask poster for anyone? What kind of treatment is that for Queen? These regrettable bits from fans become part of the Internet forever. Most are unapologetic. Lostman you asked, "Can anybody please tell me what is this?" I can only answer you with another question ... is this the dark side of fame? Each person has their own threshold, taste & judgement. To each his own - but I'm not inclined to be a "fan" that way. On with the real reason to be here .... MUSIC! |

Why would we be queen fans? I mean, if we were queen fans, surely we would all be on a queen site? |

I want to say 'go fuck yourself', but in the friendliest manner possible. Why the fuck does liking a band mean you have to perform a virtual human centipede or circlejerk with the bandmembers and your fellow fans? Go to a Hall & Oates forum if you don't like the way people talk here. |

You're mentioning some of the most hilarious stuff on the forum, yet you don't sound happy. |

Zebonka12 wrote: "I want to say 'go fuck yourself', but in the friendliest manner possible." I wouldn't get on that. I'll better go touching myself. "Why the fuck does liking a band mean you have to perform a virtual human centipede or circlejerk with the bandmembers and your fellow fans? Also, I didn't say I don't like your jokes. I'm just saying that it's all shit and nonsense. Excuse me, did I become a Queen fan especially to tell shit about them? I don't seem to remember it. Maybe you do? The reason why I created this topic was that I expected I would catch such "jokers" and would get a reaction from them ... which has already happened. Btw, maybe it would be better if you all talked in civil manner? Ha? |

I left off "Mortal Kombat" (but that dubious credit goes to someone else.) I also left off "Freddie's Best Live Vocal Performance?" ... how did you phrase that answer? Ah yes, I remember now ... "his last breath." So funny! So caring! Real "fan of the year" type stuff! Now, what was actually funny (to me) was the person who urgently requested John's phone number and you replied that you had sent it to him. Now THAT - was hilarious! |
catqueen 18.08.2011 08:08 |
sheesh, i find Zebonka funny, but i dont have a good enough memory to be able to quote every joke he has made on the forum :/ Wish i could remember stuff :/ |

I came here to talk about Treasure Moment and heard this band Queen. They're ok... I guess. |
GratefulFan 18.08.2011 12:06 |
I don't laugh at every single thing meant to be funny, but I've certainly never thrown that into any kind of a "are they a proper fan" hopper. |
The Fairy King 19.08.2011 03:48 |
I think you should lighten up and stop taking stuff too seriously. Queen never took themselves too seriously and we're taking the piss out of themselves and eachother constantly. Plus the word "fan" is short for fanatic and i don't think anyone in their right mind should be labeled as such. Now lets talk about how Freddie took it up the ass and why Brian loves bestiality. |
queenUSA 19.08.2011 08:16 |
^ Then you'll have to switch from your "right mind" to some other mind, because .... News flash: You are a fanatic - for what other thing can be said of someone with over 8000 posts? Is there such a thing as QZ rehab? You might want to look into it (if that last line of yours is any indication). Under the guise of "taking the piss" out of things - people want carte blanche to inflict anything that crosses their mind. We don't use that phrase in the USA. Instead, we call the same thing "taking down a notch." People don't do this in person as much as it's seen online or there would be fights in the streets. In person, people are more careful with their words. |

"In person, people are more careful with their words." Which is the best thing about the internet! You can win an argument without someone trying to punch you. The implication of "you're hiding behind your keyboard and wouldn't say that to my face", is that the sad prick saying it is unable to account for themselves in any kind of dialogue, and has to work out their frustrations in a manner that belongs to those born 40000 B.C. I dislike this whole environment most of all because I have been vocal enough 'in real life' to wind up in the situation where someone wants to hit me. That's really their problem, but since what I'm saying is usually bang on the money, I'm willing to take a slap or two - and have done! I just dislike the customary insinuation that somehow we're different 'in real life'. There's such a thing as being prudent - say, not walking up to a gang of bikies and saying "do you guys take off your false beards before you suck dicks?". But in terms of (allegedly) poor-taste jokes, or unpopular opinions - why the fuck should anyone have to keep those to themselves, on or off the internet? Maybe I'm lucky (or unlucky) to have lived amongst a lot of plain spoken individuals who will say what they're thinking. Meh. |

I know some people who are extremely hard headed online, but quite nice in person. So i think it CAN happen, but doesn't always. I'm basically the same online as in real life though i think, and i know other people who are too. |
