Since someone posted a topic about songs that didn't work live, I've decided to post this topic about Queen songs that not necessarily sounded "better" live but took on a new life live and worked well with the audience! 1. Love of my Life 2. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 3. We Will Rock You (Slow)/Fast 4. Bohemian Rhapsody 5. Dreamer's Ball 6. Killer Queen 7. Now I'm Here 8. In The Lap of the Gods Revisited (from the magic tour) 9. Is This the World We Created 10. Save Me |

From the other thread: How about songs that are better live? Rock It and Modern Times = awesome |
queenUSA 07.08.2011 12:40 |
How about adding Radio GaGa to this grouping (as far as "working well with the audience")? |
lifetimefanofqueen 07.08.2011 12:42 |
we will rock you, both versions! :) |
Djdownsy 07.08.2011 12:55 |
CLTCL on the Japenese Hot Space Tour were the best versions IMO. Fred Mandel on the Piano really transformed it. :D |
Gregsynth 07.08.2011 13:39 |
The Hot Space stuff sounds on par/better live than the record! Hammer To Fall works better live (since it sounds "heavier" live), Ogre Battle is awesome live, and Liar sounds great as well! |
Russian Headlong 07.08.2011 13:40 |
Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic, I Want to Break Free,All sounded better 'rocked up' live. I also prefer Crazy Little Thing and Now I'm Here Live too |

Sheer Heart Attack |
mooghead 07.08.2011 14:49 |
"CLTCL on the Japenese Hot Space Tour" Is that the Tokyo performance from Rare Live? Have to agree, that is pretty special (or was it Osaka?) Hammer to Fall at Wembley was perhaps the best individual live track I've ever seen, but saying that I am not a collector of live material and only really know officially released stuff |
Band Forever 07.08.2011 16:28 |
1. Dragon Attack - Live At The Bowl 2. Hammer To Fall - Wembley -Brian amazing guitar play. 3. WWRY Fast -LATB 4. Now Im Here - My favourite version 5. Tie Your Mother Down - Wembley- John's Heavy Bass 6. Rock It - with Freddie on vocals - why didn't we get the studio release on the Game Extras 7. Fat Bottomed Girls - Live At The Bowl - Brian's Guitar Outro very nice 8.Calling All Girls - Loved Tokyo 82 9. Another One Bites The Dust - Buenos Aires 81- Favourite rendition 10. The Hero - LATB- What an entrance an explosion of noise, Best Version imo Live At Milton Keynes is the best concert officially released but not could use the same magic trix used on the Montreal release loved Roger's drums and John's prominent bass. |
MERQRY 07.08.2011 17:22 |
Keep Yourself Alive works very good live! mainly in the "early" shows like Rainbow (March 31th) |
Bo Alex 07.08.2011 17:59 |
White Queen Spread Your Wings Dreamers Ball Tie Your Mother Down Son and Daughter Radio Ga Ga Various from Hot Space: Staying Power, Calling All Girls, Back Chat. |
ole-the-first 07.08.2011 18:14 |
Flick of the Wrist (fantastic riff played on guitars makes live performances much better than the studio version) White Queen (great piano/guitar solo instead of boring acoustic one!) Liar (the longer the better) '39 Spread Your Wings Brighton Rock solo |

Djdownsy wrote: CLTCL on the Japenese Hot Space Tour were the best versions IMO. Fred Mandel on the Piano really transformed it. :D Gotta agree with this...also AOBTD was much better live too...favorite version being from Wembley (first night), and the one from LATB...both stellar versions of this song, where you can feel the bass and drums just rockin it in your chest! |

1. Action This Day: Awesome, rocker, and more intense. 2. Modern Times Rock'n Roll: great Roger chorus. 3. 39: Doesn't need an explanation 4. Radio Ga-Ga: Guitars added and people clapping 5. Teo Torriate: The Hot Space versions sounded harder and, again, guitars added increase the power. 6. Need Your Loving Tonight and Rock It. 7. Staying Power: Same as nº 1. 8. Ogre Battle: In the jurassic period, great chorus, and extense "battle" section. 9. In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited: Wonderfull 10. We Will Rock You/ Spread Your Wings. |
liam 07.08.2011 23:23 |
39 - Freddie singing, less produced Radio gaga - rocked up It's a kind of magic - rocked up. Wish they had recorded it how they plaed it live. in the lap of the gods revisited - love it live. love of my life - excellent. Not better, but the different take works so well. Hot space songs - rocked up One vision - rocked up. The songs with too much synth on record sound better live IMO. Maybe except IWTBF. |
OneTrackMind 08.08.2011 00:23 |
Surprised Staying Power's only been mentioned once. It's the song that underwent the biggest transformation from record to live, in my view. Completely different, in a good way. The performance of it at the Bowl is one of my favorite Queen performances in terms of a single song. |
All my life 08.08.2011 01:45 |
RADIO GAGA SPREAD YOUR WINGS KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE BREAK FREE THE GAME AOBTD TIE YOUR MOTHER DOWN LIAR |
freddiefan91 08.08.2011 06:58 |
i agree with BandForever Fat Bottomed Girls at Live at the bowl was just superb as was Somebody to Love, if you want to look at a near flawless performance of a song then they are the ones to look at Bohemian Rhapsody at wembley (magic tour) is pretyy good as well |
Cruella de Vil 08.08.2011 07:48 |
HI there! Just very much 'off the cuff' but I reckon: Keep yourself Alive Liar (yes the longer the better) Son & Daughter Modern Times~ fantastic interchange between Freddie & Roger (A precursor to Dog With a Bone!) Father to Son (at least the rockier bit) Sleep well all |
Thistle 08.08.2011 08:06 |
You are ALL absolutely spot on! I don't think there's anything left for me to say, other than I love Save Me and Rock It live!!! |
Silken 08.08.2011 11:30 |
A kind of magic |
malicedoom 08.08.2011 11:47 |
Spread Your Wings live is one of my favorites. |
Rotwang 08.08.2011 14:57 |
Dreamer's Ball Love Of My Life (Montreal) |
ITSM 08.08.2011 16:15 |
Spread Your Wings (Live Killers) Is this the World we Created...? (Live Magic) Put Out the Fire Action This Day You Take My Breath Away (Great song - both live and in the studio). |
queenfanbg 08.08.2011 16:39 |
Somebody To Love , for sure... |
queenUSA 08.08.2011 19:19 |
You Take My Breath Away (Live in Hyde Park, September 1976) Just Freddie and the Piano, no fussiness to it. |

A Kind Of Magic was Sooo much better live. I like the pop original, but live it rocked, and Brians guitar was incredible. Under Pressure was better live too, as was another one bites the dust. I think Im basically saying that I liked it when they rocked up the pop songs. Dont Stop me now was pretty good live too. GG |
Shumway 09.08.2011 00:07 |
Perhaps I am in the minority hre, but I always preferred Brian singing 39 over Freddie and wished he had sung it live so sooner. (The first time I heard him sing the song from start to finish without introducing band members etc was on Return of the Champions). |
Flavus 09.08.2011 03:31 |
To be honest, a lot of their songs sounded better live. Keep Yourself Alive Doing All Right White Queen In The Lap Of The Gods Stone Cold Crazy In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited '39 Love Of My Life Tie Your Mother Down You Take My Breath Away Somebody To Love We Are The Champions We Will Rock You Spread Your Wings Let Me Entertain You Dreamer's Ball Another One Bites The Dust Crazy Little Thing Called Love Calling All Girls Action This Day Staying Power Back Chat Radio Ga Ga Hammer To Fall A Kind Of Magic One Vision All better live, IMO. |
Hangman_96 09.08.2011 14:31 |
I do prefer all songs performed live. They do indeed sound better live than studio versions. Don't judge me hard, by the way. I'm just one of those Queen fans who like all live stuff. |
pittrek 09.08.2011 15:00 |
Well I would say everything from the Jazz - A Kind Of Magic era was sounding better live. |
javigpalao 09.08.2011 15:19 |
May be Queen is the greatest live band of all time, so almost every song have worked amazing live... But I'd choose: Spread your Wings (Great Audience Choir!!) I'm in love with my car (Great Roger!) Flash (Hard to play live because this tempo) The hero (Rocks!) Dreamer's Ball (Lovely accoustic) Keep yourself alive (Great Roger solo at 70s!) A kind of magic (Wonderful Brian solos and Riffs) Bring Back that Leroy Brown (Are U Kidding me?? What stuff!!) Let me entertain you (Rocks!) Dead on 2 Legs (Impresive tempo changes and 3 vocals) Brighton Rock (Amazing to play this fast song live!!) You're my best friend (Great Vocals of Q Members) Any cover song (Tutti Frutti, Big Spender, Hello Mary Lou...) After Freddie I loved: Headlong (B.May at Brixton) The Show must go on (+Paul Rodgers) I Want it all (Long version +P.Rodgers at Return of the Champions tour) Hammer to fall (Slow +P.Rodgers) Days of our lives (+P. Rodgers with R.Taylor on vocals) Reaching Out (Q+PR) Any P.Rodgers cover (Wishing well, Feel like making love...) Las palabras de amor (Freddie's Tribute) Innuendo (F's. Tribute) And here are some songs I'd Wished to enjoy live: Dead on time (Can you imagine Roger and Brian playing that fast???) No one but you (With Roger too. Brian played sometimes during the Another World Tour) Princess of the universe Tenement Funster (With Brian. Roger used to play on his solo tours) Lazing on a sunday afternoon (But W/O Freddie....) Seaside Rendezvous (But W/O Fredie....) Who needs you (Brian and John playing spanish guit.??) Sleeping on the sidewalk (Brian on vocals... Fun Blues!!) All Dead (Would be great with Paul R. And Roger T.) Was it all worth it (Heavy Rocks!) Let Me Live (May be with a choir like Somebody to love at Freddie's tribute) I can't live with you (Could be great live!) Don't try so hard (May be with some girl, like Kerry Ellis or someone with high vocals) That's it! Forgive my english!! Cheers!! |
