Great news!! This get's me going. But.... ha ha ha. - A bit simple DVDcover. They had no other picture from Wembley.???? A bit poor. - In various previous post, way back, I said they had much more of the Friday Night. Qp let the people think by adding the message that the friday night was only filmed as a rehearsal for the crew there were only a few songs filmed. Now there we have it. - There is plenty of rehearsal footage available. Mostly TV shows and news reports. This is nice footage however. I hope they used some of that and not the same reahearsal footage that was found in a shoe box in the back of a car. |

jamster1111 wrote: link Finally they produce something worth buying... though I hope this isn't the "big" concert release they were talking about. Worth buying .... This is another joke? This is how it was supposed to be released back in 2003. To me now this release is nothing more but a mere correction of a mistake made 8 years ago by not putting out both concerts in complete form back then. It was a nice teaser tho Ok, but now its 2011 and all they do is give us another Wembley '86 that comes with yet another Wembley re-release. I do understand that this performance might be a little bit better than the second night, but we have seen almost half of it already : / And we all have seen Wembley a zillion times before... Again its just one of those releases that doesnt cost em ANY effort at all! its a product to them. With a some lame excuse for it. Hyde Park happened 35 years ago too ... That release will without a doubt sell very well to both fans and everybody else, no ? now Im even more sad ... they wont release anything thats older than 1981 and needs fixing. the less effort or creativity or time they put into these releases, the more money they seem make ... and its likely QPL will continue releasing such products. oh and how dissapointed I am with no blu-ray, wich I wouldve bought... |

Omg ok it will be nice to see the first night. But come on Brian, Roger,John...Please sort this out for us fans. You know we all will spend money on these releases. But cant we just spend our money on stuff we really want.. The 2 disk remasters>>>>£200+. Wembley DVD>>>£20. Queen Forever>>>£20. The Freddie movie>>£30. Queen+M.Jackson>>>£10. Come on id rather pay £300 for stuff i want. Lets just say £500 this year before they even decided to do a Gig. Queen(record company) will be million, billionaires> I need a waltz. |

Well I must say I'm very pleasantly surprised. Although I've never been a massive fan of Wembley, for me this may now be the most interesting Queen product in 20 years. Restored picture, new stereo and 5.1 re-mix, AND full Friday night concert! Back of the net! I'm sure GT will be here today to see the response, and I was wondering if he could just confirm that it has been re-mixed? The press release has remastered and new mix in the same sentence. Just find it odd you would remaster a new mix? |

Why all the complaining? It is obvious that all old albums will be re-released by Island, which is logical, they want (and ought) to have the complete Queen back catalogue. So it is also a logical step that the concert DVD's/CD's will be re-released on Island. So see it this way: They could have sticked to the old 'Wembley Stadium' version with nothing extra added, nd simply re-release that one. They added a complete extra concert. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want, simply don't buy it. I think that (most of) the other live DVD's/CD's will be re-released by Island too. So prepare for a re-release of 'Live killers', 'Queen on fire', 'Rock Montreal', 'Live magic' (although this is the only one I am not so sure about). Was just thinking, do you think that the Q+PR will be re-released by Island too? (Return of the champions, Cosmos rocks, Ukraine) |

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.... To anybody... DO NOT ask 'Why is it not on blu-ray/' and NOOOOO it's not because they will re-release it a later date to make more money. I'm not going to explain why it will not and should NEVER be released on Blu Ray (all be done before). If you don't understand it now, you never will! and should have stayed on VHS. Let's end that one right here, unlike some of the comments on QOL comments page....DUH! |
popy 03.08.2011 07:52 |
Yes, i ask why this is not released on Blu-Ray. And it's not wrong if i ask for it. Just read what i have to say about that. Like memory cards, CD's, DVD's or a Hard Disc Drives, Blu-Ray is a MASS STORAGE DEVICE, not an HD format. If it wasn't like that we would still be using the audio and video cassestes. But no, we now use DVD's, and some people use Blu-Ray. Just ask yourself why. Blu-Ray offers far more capacity storage than a DVD. I know Wembley was filmed on videotape and not film, but if Wembley would get an Blu-Ray release, picture quality would be as close to the original video mastertapes as possible, with no compression artifacts all over the place like the 2003 DVD release very noticable on LCD/LED/Plasma screens. But there's no Blu-Ray release, so i hope, at least, that they have corrected this for this new release. People have to stop thinking that Blu-Ray is, as someone sayd on Queenonline comments, for 16mm, 35mm, 70mm FILM HDV, 720p, 1080p etc video content only. No it's not. Blu-Ray is for having a copy as close as possible to the original masters, audio and/or video. |

Just one question to all the folks unhappy about this : How would you all have reacted if the Friday show had been shared here a few days ago, ya know for free ? |
brians wig 03.08.2011 09:48 |
Looks like most of the extras from the 2003 release are missing, which is good news in the fact that we won't be paying for exactly the same stuff yet again just to get a bit more! Personally I'd like to see a special edition of this presented on a Bluray disc, JUST to make use of the extra storage capacity. One of the best things on the 2003 release (which looks like it's missing from this one), were the single camera angles for each band member. I'd love nothing more than to have the full concert on a disc taken from the camera that's right behind (and above) Roger! Of course. That would make it a release for "the fans" rather than the general public, so it ain't ever going to happen :( Hey gary. It would be nice to have the FULL rehearsal footage as well you know, or would that also make it a "fan" release rather than one for the general public?! Good see the Friday night gig in full though, so I can't complain too much: at least we ARE getting something new and worthwhile this year. Let's hope next year finally brings us the FULL Hammy 75 DVD and also the Rainbow 74 DVD.... |
GT 03.08.2011 09:48 |

Queenman!! wrote: Well it could be: a 8,5 GB disc? ================================ Wasn't the last release 2x dual layer disc? Not wanting to start a fight but this should get a BluRay release. Whether it was shot on video is irrelevent. BluRay allows for a more exact copy of the original master tapes with less compression and higher resolutuion. A bit like cassette vs CD. Besides it was shot on PRO video 1 inch tape not consumer VHS. Not a major release but a very decent effort. New sound, enhanced pictures (probably due to not having the diffenet camera angles taking up the room on the disk) and a new full concert. Hopefully we'll see 'new' product once Island see sales, profit and a return on their investment. |
Erik Viking 03.08.2011 13:38 |
If it would be released as blu-ray it wolud be compared to other todays blu-rays. And only result would be: loss. It can't handle rivalry with other todays blu-ray releases. Montreal hd source can, Wembley sd source - can't. So Wembley blu-ray will never happen. QP can't lose. |

Would that be the same QPL who released several boxsets of CD singles years after people stopped buying them? And the same QPL who released a video of a gig, where one of the cameras hag a big dirty mark on it because the lense wasn't cleaned? lol Blu ray isn't in itself a so called high definition format. It is merely another storage device with a far higher storage capacity. It's been marketed as "High definition", but the discs could be used to just load more content onto them. There's a massive gulf between the quality of the existing Wembley DVD and what blu ray could offer, that you could issue this set on blu ray with both nights and extras on one disc and the quality would still be much better. Saying so called standard defition analogue can't benefit from a blu ray release is like saying vintage blues recordings don't benefit from CD releases and should be only released on cassette or minidisc. |
TheAmazingEvent 03.08.2011 15:05 |
Wembley would look better on BR. The process of taking a PRO quality video tape and compressing it to fit on a DVD results in picture loss. Not resolution loss as such just a cetain amount of degredation inherent to the copying process and DVD limitation. The digitisation of the analogue source losses quality. Think master tape to MP3 compared to WAV file. BR allows a higher bitrate and so less compromises are made and the image is closer to the original. It won't make it better, you can't gain quality but you can limit its loss. UPscaling a DVD to 1920x1080 either by the player or TV does nothing for the picture only present the picture to the LCD TV at it native resolution and so looks crisper. All LCD have a resolution that gives the best picture and others result in a slightly blurred image. Try it on your monitors. BR is captured at 1920x1080, no upscaling required. No guessing by the player or TV where to merge the pixels to fill the gaps created by going 720x576 to 1920x1080. Result is quality very close to the master tape PLUS room for extras, multi camera angles etc. |
TheAmazingEvent 03.08.2011 15:26 |
Then again in these days of itunes and people listening to music through crappy earphones perhaps quality doesn't matter anymore? |

If this is Island's idea of a mere re-release, I like it. They could have just stamped the Island logo on top of the old DVDs but they did this. What's next? A Rare Live re-release that is actually good? Full versions of Budapest, Japan 82/85, etc.? I can't wait for their first exclusive release. Hopefully it will be something from the seventies, like Rainbow, or one of the Hammy nights. |

Wiley wrote: "If this is Island's idea of a mere re-release, I like it. They could have just stamped the Island logo on top of the old DVDs but they did this." Exactly. Between the exhibition, documentary, (some of the) bonus tracks and now the Friday Wembley show, it's been a damn good 2011. We've got plenty to look forward to. "Full versions of Budapest, Japan 82/85, etc.?" Full Tokyo 82 is unlikely. It doesn't seem like they have the multi-tracks, and Play The Game and Body Language are unreleaseable (is that even a word?) with Freddie's voice cracks. With the three new bonus tracks from this show, I think we've got all we're ever going to hear from this show officially. "Hopefully it will be something from the seventies, like Rainbow, or one of the Hammy nights." Hammersmith is already mixed and ready to go, as evidenced by the BBC broadcast in 2009. And it looks like they've been working on Hyde Park too, judging by the bits seen in the documentary. Brian said they're working on Rainbow ... so any of these are possible. For the first time in a decade, I'm feeling very optimistic on this front. |
TheAmazingEvent 03.08.2011 16:57 |
Lets hope the reason for limited releases was the EMI divorce and Island will want to get a return on their investment quickly by releasing NEW product. |

Of course, I had to get the DVD too.....and then the Japanese 2008 mini LP. Do I want to but this new version? Damn right! :) |

Well I'm not too disappointed, I thought we'd never get this show in full. The fact is we already have Earls Court / Houston / Hammersmith 75 in decent quality from bootlegs or TV broadcasts, hovever Wembley 1st night is mostly unseen! I guess they didn't release the whole show in 2003 because the 2nd night was finally completed on that release (previously cut on the earlier VHS release) so releasing the full 2nd night and 1st the might have been considered overkill. |

I have the original Live at Wembley Promo Bag which has CD,Casette,Press Release and Sweatshirt. Have a similar one for Innuendo (allegedly given to those that attended a release party aboard a boat in montreux, tho dont know if thats true?) Also have a promo Bag for Classic Queen with Cd,Press Release,Sweatshirt and Mug. |

Whilst I'd obviously have preferred a 70's release, I've tricked my brain into treating this as a DVD release of a complete, previously unreleased and uncut show, which happens to come with a free bonus disc of the Sat show (with a new audio mix too). Looked at like that I'm quite happy with it as a 'filler' release before the good stuff. I'm really hoping they've found the multitracks and sorted out Brian's guitar sound on the Sat - strangely the Fri snippets we already have feature a much better guitar sound even without much attention. I also hope they've been able to create a good edit of the Fri footage, because the bits that were on the original Wembley DVD were far too centred on Freddie. |
Wijnand 04.08.2011 02:28 |
My opinion about (another) Wembley release... GREAT! I know we have got Saturday night on many many formats... But Friday... Absolutely GREAT! And thanks to GT for uploading the cover, although the picture is the same, the cover looks AMAZING (because the pose of Freddie is AMAZING :-)) |
freddiefan91 04.08.2011 02:48 |
This will be good to see Friday's show Whenever I have watched the little bit that we have, the band especially Freddie seem more relaxed |

For me they're releasing friday concert with saturday as a bonus. So I'll buy it! |
All my life 04.08.2011 03:23 |
I agree with "Cms Drums". The Friday songs..on 2003 Wembley disk are too centred on Fred.( I think they ve got the same problem with Knebworth) Hope that there will be a good edit, but I am thrilled anyway. We have got a FULL SHOW ! Probably is not as good as Saturday show for cameras etc..but at this point who cares? Let s go for it ! |

I'm surprised to see that there is actually something new on this new release... I might even buy it at some point (if the reviews here are positive), but I won't be rushing into the store. It's possible that this release has actually been aimed at the fans because nobody else would really be interested in seeing the "same" show twice, but it's just as likely that they have already had the footage sorted out for the past 8 years, and are seeing this as the easiest way to re-sell the same product. Now, if we have a 2dvd+2cd release of Live Killers next year, I will be more than happy to buy it immediately. |
TheGame 04.08.2011 05:33 |
Finally something "new". Not the most exciting release, but cant complain really. I will buy it for sure. Just hope there will be some good extras and more from Knebworth!!! Anyway, the future looks more bright when it comes to new releases, atleast thats the trend so far. |
Shaving Foamasi 04.08.2011 06:27 |
Pity there's no bluray release. Although the improvement in video would be marginal, the improvement in audio would be worth it alone. Bearing in mind they doctored Freddie's vocals so much on the original DVD release, I hope they don't do the same this time... |
KevoM 04.08.2011 06:47 |
OK, i can accept the argument that on BD you'll have increased capacity and marginal increase in PQ and audio but not enough to warrant a release commercially. What I would like to know is whether it's in the OAR of 4:3 like the orig release or butchered to 16:9, ala Greatest Hits 1 & 2 |
Dane 04.08.2011 07:33 |
A Wembley Weekend feature about the 2003 tour?!?!?!?!?!? How misplaced is that then! I wouldn't have put that on there. different era, different band. |

You would have more than a marginal increase in audio quality with a BD release. Bearing in mind the band's ethos was always not to accept second best - releasing this as DVD rather than bluray is doing just that... A pity they haven't adopted the same approach that Neil Young did with his Archives - releasing them on CD, DVD and bluray - the latter to take into account both BD Live to download additional material and the far superior audio quality offered by bluray. |

Now I think worth buying so-called new is not a new release of the concert at Wembley Stadium on 11 July and 12 July. If they released only on 11 July that I would not hesitate bought it |

Itll be a good deal to buy it if you havent seen the Live At Wembley 1986 concert (but really : who hasnt???) The friday concert might (arguably) be better, and yes finally it will be released after a 8 year delay and that is what pains me most about this release. The simple fact that its another Wembley release. Im very suprised to see people raving and happy about this release - another 80's concert - "wow" :( bless the day (that never seems to come) they announce Houston or Earls Court will be released .... to me the most interesting concerts the band did in the 70's (on video) |

Hey Guys, What to you expect to see from the second disc? - A Friday concert ( with three camera angles focussing mainly on Freddie)? As we have seen on the original DVD - Secretly filmed Rehearal footage? ( is this the same tape that was found in a shoebox in a garage or car? As we have see on the orginal DVD - The Wembley Weekend? Could this be the same scenes from 'Brian and Roger' that were on the orginal DVD? I love to see the complete backstage footage of Wembley, Knebworth and Mannheim shot by the Torpedo clowns. They probably save the Budapest footage for a later release DVD. There are obvious reasons why QP didn't release the Friday concert in the past. However... according to Gregsynth the overall concert is much better than the day after. |

9th August 2011Brian Answers Live At Wembley QuestionQuestion Hello,Is Brian able to clarify how the Friday night show has been prepared?I specifically recall him saying in the past that Friday night was used as a full dress rehearsal for the cameras with the director taking practice shots etc. but that no tape was put in the machine so nothing was captured which was a big regret.ThanksIan- - - - -Brian's reply...Dear Ian. Thanks for writing, re the upcoming new DVD issue of the Queen 1986 Wembley concerts. From what I can gather, there might be some confusion, here, between the second night at Wembley, and the later concert at Knebworth Park. The only footage we have of Knebworth is from a documentary camera. That is the occasion where an opportunity was entirely missed, to record the feeds from the cameras which were being used to put images up on the 'Idaphores' - the biggest video screens available in the day. But on the first night at Wembley, the cameras were rolling, and although there was little in the way of 'iso' feed recording (from individual cameras), a live mix was being put down by way of a rehearsal for the following night, which was planned to be the big shoot. Not all the cameras were in operation, but Gavin Taylor was choosing shots live 'at the coalface', and it was recorded with all his visual cuts. So although ideally it would be nice to be able to go back and choose some different shots in retrospect, especially from the cameras which were NOT available, we do have a pretty good 'capture' of the event, visually .... easily good enough for a 'bonus' DVD, which is what we are slipping into the new version of the WEMBLEY DVD. Of course the sound from the night was recorded at very decent quality, on multitrack, just like on the second night, and our chaps have done a great restoration job and mix on the whole soundtrack ... so musically the experience is just fine ...well, more than fine, really ! I have a suspicion that folks out there will enjoy being able to relive both Queen nights at Wembley Stadium 1986 on DVD. (Those of you who really get into this will note, if you compare this issue with the handful of songs from the Friday night that were offered as a bonus on the 2003 DVD, that there is a small amount of ISO footage from Wembley 1. I will leave you guys to have fun figuring out exactly which shots were inserted.) Cheers Bri link |

one thing that I find strange... I assume the crew of people who are responsible for the new sountrack on the 25th anniversary release, are the same who did the 2003 version. does that mean they agree that the 2003 version does not sound very good???? |

It might have had a remaster? Cant remember? But it was the same mix which was on the 1990 VHS. To my ears it has never sounded very good, the quality of the sound is nice but the mix is dire IMO. I had to laugh when Brian was moaning about his guitar sounding 'thin' when the Live Aid box set came out, and they couldn't change that because the multi's didn't exist. Yet he happily put Wembley out with that strange treble up to 11, amp's under water sound. I really hope that has been rectified. |
razamataz 10.08.2011 19:10 |
Do you know if they remove Freddie's off-key notes? I ask this because I used to have a tape recorded from a live radio broadcast of one of the Wembley's 86 concerts (back then I didn't know there were two concerts). At the end of "I want to break free" there was a tremendous Freddie's off-key note (in the word "God" from the phrase "God knows I want to..."). The funny thing is that it's not there in the CD or DVD. Maybe it belongs to the other show or maybe they just removed it and replaced it with a voice fragment from some other show...? |

They should have included a conversation between Brian and Roger during the concert like they did with Montreal.... |
Toozeup 18.08.2011 13:23 |
Full Tokyo 82 is unlikely. It doesn't seem like they have the multi-tracks, and Play The Game and Body Language are unreleaseable (is that even a word?) with Freddie's voice cracks. With the three new bonus tracks from this show, I think we've got all we're ever going to hear from this show officially. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Justin Shirley Smith confirmed they had the Multi-tracks for this ages ago, as confirmed by the new mix of calling all girls on the "Milton Keynes Bowl DVD." But stated they were still trying to track down the missing footage. Don't really want to see this one released though because of freddies voice problems. |

I love the first Wembley night: what a major difference with the second night! The first is much, much better! What could be the reason for this? |
The Real Wizard 18.03.2014 13:31 |
To play Wembley even one night put you in the top tier of bands, never mind two nights. The second night was broadcast live on the radio, and the film was rolling with the biggest film crew they ever had. They weren't nervous the first night because they weren't playing every note knowing well that this would be the Queen concert film that people would see through the ages. Even then, surely they had to know it *the* big one, and Mercury certainly knew by that point that it would be his last tour. So I'd say it boiled down to nerves. That said, John and Roger played perfectly. |
