I'd like to ask you if you could help me to choose which remaster of A Night At The Opera is the best in terms of audio quality.
I've heard that MFSL/DCC/DVD-Audio and the recent 2011 remasters (more precisely - 2005 remaster in the case) are the best to choose from. What say you ?

All remaster this album are good. The main thing that you most enjoy more from these remastered. I like the remastered 2005, and firstpress, also I like listening to vinyl digitizing this album. The main thing enjoy music

Version of the album is important to you for enjoy music? You may choose any version, even remastered in 2011 the main thing that you liked something you hear from the speakers and the headphones.

if you intresting my opinion better listen every version and you yourself determine that for you better. someone says that MFSL is better, someone listens to vinyl, someone listens to the firstpress.
The DCC is light years ahead of anything else IMO. It's expensive, but well worth the money ...if quality sound is what you're after.
The Japanese CP32 is quite good, not as expensive, however getting harder to find as the years go on.
If money is an issue, then the 2005 and/or 2011 (both are fundamentally the same) are not too bad at all. A little compressed in places, particularly Bo Rhap, and the occasional clip, but for the most part it's OK.
The MFSL is a real disappointment I found. I love the Races MFSL, but ANATO just sounds a bit weak and lifeless, particularly in the middle ranges.
The 2001/4 Japanese mini LP ANATO is the most horrendous sounding remaster I have ever heard. If you must listen to it, have sick bag at the ready. It's indescribably bad. (....The 1993 remaster is not far behind)
At the risk of repeating myself, the DCC is the way to go. It just sounds perfect.
The remasters tend to just be louder, not better. In fact, as has been mentioned, some of them actually clip (cutting off the peaks of the waveform because it is amplified beyond the digital maximum), which should by all rights be a criminal act in the world of audio-engineering.
Having said that, I don't get the impression that there are tremendous differences in quality between the different remasters.
To be fair the the 2011 remasters, although I'm not a big fan, for the most part, they are not heavily compressed. ....However, most have a fair bit of heavy limiting going on. My guess it was a compromise between wanting them to be loud while retaining a similar dynamic profile.
This is not something you can necessarily blame on the engineer (Bob Ludwig in this case). As I've mentioned in another post, he's gone on record multiple times saying that he hates heavy limiting and compression, but is at the mercy of the wishes of his clients. ...in this case QP. So it's not a long bow to draw to assume that even Ludwig doesn't really like the 2011 remasters.
However it's wrong to suggest that ALL remasters are designed to be loud. Older audiophile releases like DCC and MFSL retained as much of the original dynamics as possible. In fact that's partly the reason for their existence.
Look up "loudness war". You will see that for CD the MFSL or the DCC version is best. Vinyl is of course #1 if it's a good copy etc. Do not get rid of old ones.
To be clear, the general rule is that the newer the remaster, the worse it is. i'm an audiophile. I'm not being a snob here. I can just tell you that the 2011 remaster is painful. Other than 2 mistakes on the hollywood 1991 remasters, they don't sound bad at all. Take it from an audiophule. It's not just about how impressive it sounds in 30 seconds. It's also about how fatigued yor ears are by the time you get to track 5. The 2011 remaster is very fatiguing.

The problem is, not all audiophiles share the same opinion. I think the Hollywood ANATO sounds woeful.
However I won't argue with you about the DCC. ;-)
Can someone explain how they can tell the new remasters and compression and limiting.
I don't even know what they. Can you direct me to any examples on the album, bo rhap for instance?
I cannot envisage anything ever sounding better than the DCC.
I have it on vinyl and cd and it's extremely good.
I haven't heard the CP32 or the MFSL, I may pick up the CP32 some day as the odd person has reported Freddie's vocals sounding nice on that release.
However, after taking time to track down a DCC at something just under silly money I'm quite content!
1991, 1993, Japan 01/04 all abominations.
2005 too loud for me and doesn't come close.
Hoffman is a genius, DCC all the way.
