They're probably in pre-production, if anything is happening at all.
They have to:
- budget and find financing (this was probably started by the time they announced it, but maybe not. It's not uncommon to announce a film before you've secured backing).
- write a script, which will involve edits, changes adding scenes, removing scenes, storyboarding, etc.
- put together a full production team, hire designers & crew, start designing, approve the designs, schedule the building of sets, hire effects people (practical effects, digital effects, lights, sound...) and schedule principal photography and post-production.
- audition and cast hundreds of people; dozens of principle actors and supporting parts (the speaking roles), and extras (usually done through independent extras casting agencies).
- scout locations and book studios.
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few elements, but those are some of the big things, and there are dozens of little things as well, like catering, contract negotiations, riders, Local IATSI negotiations, permits, clearances for footage and music (not just of Queen), you name it.
Personally, I'm not expecting to hear much from this production until it's done, unlike The Hobbit movies, Harry Potter or a Star Wars film, where there are behind the scenes web documentaries and video journals and such.
@rhyeking..
I dont think you missed anything.
Look at how long they took to make Superman Returns.
And even then they need are rebooting the series.
And that!!! is taking a while as well.
Even the new Godzilla movie.
I forgot about hiring a composer, if they decide to. It's entirely possible they could not score the film and just use existing Queen and other artists' music. It's less common, but it happens (Tarantino didn't score Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, it's all pre-existing music).
Bare in mind, this film is possibly intended for the Award market which mean, many details in regards to production or story would be discovered after the film is released.
brENsKi wrote: Rupert Murdoch is using all that money he didn't spend on buying Sky....to finance the film ;-)
and the best bit about have Murdoch's money is that all the info featured in the movie would be 100% correct as it would of been taken from everyones hacked phones and emails.
I'm sure someone else did this, but the IMDB.COM Pro account a couple weeks ago, hoping there would be more details--maybe casting or anything. Nothing new. I have high hopes for this project.
