Well. An otherwise perfect evening was ruined on Saturday at RAF Cranwell by two women and one bloke. Mid song, these two women decided to push their way in front of me. The bloke next to me made it clear he wasn't also happy at having stood there for hours to have two women to push in front of him and obstruct his view. "I just want to take some photos of Brian for my husband who couldn't make", said one. "I won't be long". They stood there and chatted reasonably quietly for two minutes, took a few photos and, true to their word, started to move off. BUT, then the bloke next to me decided to ask them a question! What The Fuck????? All three of them then had a LOUD conversation which lasted for nearly three minutes. I'd have been rather rude with the three of them were it not for the fact that someone very close by was filming the concert on his camera and, unlike some people, I'm not rude enough or selfish enough to piss other folks off. If that video EVER appears on the internet, then there's at least two songs ruined by these two fucking women and that idiot bloke that should have just kept his big gob shut, and it would all have been over much quicker. So. COME ON PEOPLE, if you go to a concert, don't be selfish and don't piss other people off by having a LOUD conversation with your friends and other people you meet. If you want to converse, fuck off to the back where you won't annoy anyone. Nuff said. |

Yeah, I've had a few similar things happen at concerts, either with drunks or obnoxious "fans". I've come to the conclusion that they simply fail to realize that a concert is a communal experience for everyone in the room. I guess in their minds, it's about their sense of entitlement, that as paying fans, they're allowed to do what they want because the band is playing for them alone. Or, at best, it's such a wondrous thing to see these guys live, that nothing else, particularly the thousands of others at the venue, matters. And it gets worse with alcohol. And some people are just assholes to begin with and become angry drunks after a few beers. The displays on digital cameras and phones are obnoxious in and of themselves, no matter who is holding them, because everyone behind those people has to see hundreds of bright little monitors in their face, rather than the more easily ignored silhouettes of their fellow fans. I've never brought a camera to a concert and don't whip my phone out when the concert is actually going on. I don't need blurry photos (or bad sound and a shakycam video to post on YouTube) in order to remember the event. I buy a t-shirt, maybe a program and when I hear a song on the radio, I think, "Yeah, that was awesome when they played that live!" |

Let me make it quite clear that this guy was filming the concert with a proper video camera, not a mobile phone. So. Somewhere out there is a decent video of the whole event.... |

I had a very satisfying experience at Queen + PR at newcastle arena on the second tour. This guy in front, with some serious camera equipment was taking photos non -stop. Everyone had been out of their seats for a fast number, cant remember which, but then Roger proceeded to do his drum dismantling spot and naturally, everyone sat back down to watch and take it in, but this prat continued standing much to the annoyance of those immediately behind him. Despite my asking him to sit down so we could see, he arrogantly remained standing,(probably the only person in the seated area to do so.) a while later when the tempo went back up again and he recommenced with his camera exploits, a security member spotted him, escorted him by the arm out of his seat, took him out of the auditorium and deleted the images (as we heard him bemoan to his pal) and gave him a chit to collect his camera after. Wonderful. Master marathon runner, |

Watching Brian with Kerry Ellis at Glasgow concert hall in May there was an exceptionally drunken guy wearing a yellow Freddie Wembley style jacket who when the support band came on was up out of his seat, shaking hands with the band during their set. As with many of these clowns people tolerated it with good humour at first but eventually the guy made such a nuisance of himself the singer of the support band tried to get him to sit down, security took him out for a word on a number of occasions and eventually he was removed permanently. All before Brian actually got on stage, the tube missed presumably what he came to see. |

lmao IM THE TUBE who was at the Brian gig in the glasgow royal concert hall, so before you go on here spouting your gob off, lets get a few facts correct ok, first of all I DONT DRINK, i have 2 conditions, 1 is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, 2nd i have Peripheral Neuropathy, google it if you dont know what it is, and when vintage trouble were on i was told by jackie from the queenfanclub that you were aloud to dance in the front row, which was verified by brian may and his people, as he emailed later to say sorry for the security tactics, but the reason i went mental was the security manhandled me and my girlfriend who was 35 weeks pregnant, i was left black and blue THATS WHY I WENT OFF MY HEAD YOU PLONKER, so before you start shouting your drivel get your facts correct my friend, i have seen brian many times same as roger and not a problem also queen 6 times, and never any hassle, so just double standards by certain people, get thrown out for dancing in front row then when brian is playing everyone is up mmmmmmmmmmm doesnt make sense :) |

In most cases of this, the effects would be the opposite of the behaviour you were showing, would they not? The same question also for ADHD, as my mate has that and managed to sit on his arse the whole concert through. |
Thistle 18.07.2011 19:40 |
Btw, it also looked like you were being carefully escorted out - and every time you came back, you were looking over your shoulders, so you surely knew you were doing it? |
scollins 19.07.2011 08:17 |
hi thistle boy, well the peripheral affects me in different ways, most times i just get constant pins and needles and shooting pains from my shoulders straight down to my toes and back up thats why i have to try keep moving.and plus the hyper shit doesnt help either :), other times i cant move for hours , but sometimes my full left side from face to my toes again goes numb and thats the worse part but i got lots of medication for it but its getting worse ever day, so im constantly hyper but the peripheral shit, i just have to deal with whatever type of pain or feeling it gives me each day. so maybe alcohol could be the answer make me ever more hyper? mmmmmm just a thought i should get fully loaded next time brian or roger or queen come to glasgow, and i should go really bonkers lol, then people can have a go for a good reason, instead of bitching like wee girls lol.......... |
scollins 19.07.2011 08:24 |
and as for being removed by the fascists, i was told to let me friends who were there as well, to get them to sit down and thats pretty difficult when the other 2 are pissed, and 2 guards are man handling my pregnant girlfriend and im trying to get it all sorted out, outside the arena, thats why i came back in 3 times after i thought we had sorted out everything, but next thing there was a mini hitler woman who just decided to thrown her weight about, then we were ejected, also if your friend is hyper the last thing they do is sit down, as most people i know move about like a blue arsed fly :)..thanks........ |

He said the guy was kicked out before Brian took the stage. |
Thistle 19.07.2011 09:38 |
@ Scollins I'm confused as hell lol. First of all, that's piss-poor that you have to suffer those conditions :( I'm really sorry to hear that. My understanding would have been that the peripheral thing would have made you less likely to be jumping about, but if you need to be constantly moving, then it's pain in the butt for you, not for everyone else. But the thing that's confusing me is your account of that evening - are you sure we're actually talking about YOU, and not getting our wires crossed??? I mean, I'm not arguing with you, so please don't think that, but assuming we are all talking about the same incident, here's what my vantage point allowed me to see: Guy in a yellow Freddie suit, jumping about like mad. Looks pissed as a fart, but having fun. So are Vintage Trouble, and the singer actually invites the guy up to shake hands and have a boogie. Security don't like it, so tell the guy in the yellow suit to sit down. 2 other guys, and a woman, with guy in yellow suit - one of the other guys (bald/ or cropped hair) is dancing about like a numpty as well. He's definitely pissed. He's told to sit down, and does. The other of the guys looks to be dancing, but ends up doing as he's told. Guy in the yellow suit looks over his shouders, and gets up again. Crowd thinks it's funny - this spurs the guy in the yellow suit on. He's now looking like he's milking it. Security come over, and tell him to sit down - VT singer pleads for him to do so. He does for a while, but then gets up again. His mates, and the woman, tell him to sit down, but he's away on one! Security escort him out....no touching. After a minute or so of talking, we can see the guy patting security on shoulder in a friendly manner and coming back to seat. But, as he's getting to seat, he starts dancing again, and looking over his shoulders to see if he's been spied. Bald guy gets up and does same, and both are told to sit down - bald guy does, yellow suit doesn't, and is escorted back out....no touching. The same thing then repeats itself after the guy is allowed back in, and so he is asked back out. The others leave with him....no touching, or at least no man-handling. Woman isn't touched at all. They don't come back. That is my account, my partners account, and my mate's/his partner's accounts of the story.....so are we talking about the same incident? Or is it possible that the ADHD affects the recollections of incidents, especially "heated" ones? I wouldn't take into account the other 2 men's stories as they were defo pissed. |
scollins 19.07.2011 09:44 |
yes im the same guy we were kicked out just before the end of vintage trouble set at 8pm, i had yellow freddie jacket on and was front row left hand side, and we were told that it was against concert hall policy to get up and dance, which is bullshit as i had just seen zappa plays zappa there and people were dancing etc, also brian may has played there before and no problem, it was just asshole security trying to thrown there weight about, thats why i got email from brian saying it was out of order for me being ejected as his policy is to dance wheither in front row or back row, AND also the lead singer from vintage trouble (ty taylor) just asked me to calm down as he didnt want me kicked out, he has explained this to me on my facebook page, thats why we are all meeting up with him in august in glasgow at there gig, so hopefully there will be dancing lol |
scollins 19.07.2011 09:50 |
thistle boy...........all the manhandling happened once we were out the doors in the foye, thats where all this kicked off, my girfriend was in tears, and my friend who is bald just went to the toilet came back and we were all outside, granted he had a drink so did the other guy with the grey hair, but the security were a joke and the security have been reported as my gf dad was there as well and he is a copper, once they found that out they shit it, and let me back in, only for they guy with grey hair to start dancing again, which resulted in all of us getting ask to leave, then there was the bother outside the arena. |
scollins 19.07.2011 10:02 |
thistle boy you seen to have a very good recollection of the night in question? are you the same people who were behind us and kept complaining, and once we were ejected were filming the gig? because on youtube 4 people moved straight into our chairs and had filming equipment etc? if not then i apologise, you must have some memory, but if not can you upload it for me to see exactly what went on, even though i know, i might have been really hyper etc but i dont have suffer from memory loss lol, thanks |

If it was me, I'd be suing the arse off them. Now, to be fair, that night I just thought you were being a pain in the arse - maybe unfairly treated at first but then deserving to be told to leave - but now I see this and I believe your story, I'm sorry. Kick ass mate, and I hope you enjoy your evening with VT! |

Just thought to add my bit for your consideration. Of course this has nothing to do with your case, but I want to state my opinions on concert etiquette, or in some cases, lack of it. Apologies in advance for the rant. First of all, the security people are there for a reason, and more often than not, they've been paid to do their work as they're told to. I know this, because I'm a performing musician, and in some cases, we've had to call the security to keep some sense of peace in the front row area. Festivals and concert halls are of course easily handled, but in smaller, crowded clubs, we've had to call a couple of bouncers to secure the front row, because when people get properly drunk, there's been some serious harrassing of the female lead, my stage piano has almost fallen off the stage a couple of times (which is heavy) because some drunk idiot wanted to climb on stage but didn't notice the piano wasn't bolted to the floor, and some beer has been knocked over our guitarist's pedals. Now, I LOVE when people are having fun, makes me more energetic on stage. But when having fun crosses the line to being stupid, that's usually when the security gets called in. In your case, the security didn't know of the situation, but I suspect they were probably informed some people were acting disturbingly. (Oh yeah, almost forgot, the mixing desk has had a couple of beers dropped on, which is always fun when you don't have a spare. Sometimes, when people are drunk enough, they don't really understand that these things cost a lot of money. At that point, I don't really care if they have a disorder or what - you break it, you pay for it.) Which brings to my other point, being in the audience. I'm not a big fan of actually being in a crowd, so I choose very carefully if I want to see some band or not. When I do, if I get the chance, I'll stay by the vicinity of the mixing desk, because the sound is always the best around there, and if the mixer guy can see enough from there, so can I. But I rarely go to see any band more than once, because I really don't like that many bands that much to actually want to see them at all - much less more than once - and they rarely come around to my part of the world, so if I want to see some band really badly, it'll cost a couple of fortunes. So, for some people, going to a concert of some big group can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience; not because they can't, but because they want to get their money's worth, and hope that there won't be some very vocal people in the audience to don't ruin their night. So, long story short, if there are rules set for venues, they are there most likely for a reason. Rant over for now. |

While on the topic of concert crowds & behavior, here's a few mishaps/incidents from Queen's early days of just becoming popular (taken from my Classic Queen book by Mick Rock): 1974: 16 March, University, Stirling After a full show and three encores the audience is still not happy to let the band leave. A riot escalates and two people are stabbed. The next night's show is rescheduled until 2 April. 1 November, Liverpool Empire Fans rush the stage during the "Procession" tape and order has to be restored by the theatre manager. 2 November, University, Leeds Fans again rush the stage. 8 November, Apollo Theatre, Glasgow Ten rows of seats are damaged when fans storm the stage and Freddie is dragged into the throng! Needless to say, Queen fans are enthusiastic! How's that for etiquette? |
