Brilliant new song by Roger!? Tweeted by Glinner recently (Glinner being Graham Linehan, who wrote Father Ted and the IT Crowd, followed by 10's of thousands...) calling for it to be xmas number one. |

Yep prefer the original, I really LIKED the processed vocal parts & miss the drums. However still good to have this & know the fire still rages within Roger!! Do you think he re-recorded the vocals? I can't decide - I know there's a new line of lyrics in there - so at least one line re-recorded. Also instruments re-recorded? Guitar solo not re-recorded...but Piano and Glockenspiel at end?? |

Line I've notice that changed. Used to be: "You control half our media whose values don't scan" Now: "You control half our media whose lifeblood is scam" |

Great song! One of Roger's finest moments. One of the best songs of all Queen's members solo work. I like the new take. |

Line I've notice that changed. Used to be: "You control half our media whose values don't scan" Now: "You control half our media whose lifeblood is scam" =========================== NAh, it's been scam since it appeared on the album, The Japanese promo on Daverfuller channel has Scan though. |

I'm happy for Roger to have serendipity give his art a shot in the arm, and happy if it can play a role in galvanizing people or making them think when the iron is hot, but I also can't help but recall the interview he just gave The Sun a few months ago to promote the 2011 reissues and the use of same years ago to promote WWRY via the free single. There's kind of flexible ethics at play there, and that leaves a bit of an aftertaste. It doesn't help that the official channel seems to have gone out of it's way to let people believe this is an entirely brand new work, which feels slightly dishonest in an unnecessary way. |

Dear Gratefulfan, Get a grip. You would never be able to promote the music, without the media. Good or bad, Roger knows this, hence the expected dig he never got from Jools Holland about X factor. The Currant Sun is the biggest selling newspaper in Britain, If Roger can use this to promote Queen, then that is one upmanship, surely? We know the tabloids are full of crap, but he never went to The mirror or Daily Star, etc, cos nobody reads them. Promote Queen, Roger, hate the Sun Roger, cos of what they did to Freddie, and let's not lose the plot here, cos that's what this song is about, the intrusion of his ill health. I hope Roger get's a massive hit from this song, cos he deserves it. The most productive member of Queen, the most up to date member of Queen, in terms of songs. (Not like the Dr, who is stuck in a time warp, and who had the cheek to have a pop at Nazis, by Roger... FFS? Roger, or can I call you Mr Dodger? Get Deacy back on board and you two will surely make Queen relevant in the 21st century and have more weight as a pair to over power the DR. Maybe then we would have loved the MIH, brand new album?, with half of the tracks we already had, a little bit more. Roger Taylor No 1? Yep, that would be a wonderful reward for a tireless and wonderful musician, and from the videos I have seen, and interviews, a decent geezer too. |
Holly2003 16.07.2011 02:22 |
So Roger was forced to use the Sun to sell his product. Now I've heard it all lol! |
Dodger Taylor 16.07.2011 02:52 |
Surely promoting your music in the Sun is fine, its the biggest selling uk paper so gets most publicity which is good. The part of the paper Mr Taylor doesnt like is the part where they invade peoples private lives just to sell a paper without any respect for the people involved. Its a totally different part journalism.I suspect that each and everyone of us in the Uk has at some point brought The Sun just to read a big story inside about a big name doing something wrong so we're all to blame in one way.If we didnt buy it they wouldnt print it. |

I prefer the original - always liked it- but I hope this new version goes viral and gets Roger the exposure he deserves. Oh, and the 'values/lifeblood' lyric line has been changed (and other verses have been edited out sadly). |
cmsdrums 16.07.2011 03:28 |
Just heard the Japanese promo for the first time - that actually has he same lyric line in question as this new version, but these are different to the standard 'Happiness?' release. Looks therefore as if Roger favoured one version originally, changed his mind at the last minute on release, but has now reverted back! Shame, as the 'who's values don't...scan' line is better to me andmore apt for the reason this has been remixed now |

Banawig wrote: Line I've notice that changed. Pim Derks 16.07.2011 04:18 |
Anyone with good ears who can determine what's new on the recording? To me it sounds like some lines are a bit different from the 1994 version, but maybe it's just the mix. The whole backing track seems to be new? |

When someone is so rich as Roger and Brian they simply do not need to work with the Murdoch organisation. The song was genuine when it was written and recorded but after Roger and Brian appeared on AI and used the SUN to promote WWRY it would have been better not to jump on the bandwagon right now. There is only so much double standard one can explain away. |

It's not a completely new recording. It's something like new 'stripped down' edited mix of an old recording with new piano part. And 'lifeblood' line was used on the promo version as well indeed. The result is fabulous and needs to be properly released. |

Regarding Roger's interview with The Sun, I have a few questions: Did a Sun staffer conduct the interview or was it a freelancer? The difference is important. A freelance reporter who took an opportunity to interview Roger might not have had a buyer for the exclusive until well after the interview was conducted. If he sold it to The Sun, then Roger can't be held accountable for that. Roger would not say, "You can interview me, but no selling it to any paper Murdoch owns." It just doesn't work that way. Also, was the interview reported in other papers or was it an exclusive? It might have been for a press-conference or gleaned from other press-release sources. QPL would send out material to media outlets and those outlets would do what they want with it. I haven't read the interview, so I'm curious if it's an actual one on one Q & A or if it's just quotes from Roger in an article. If it is a Q & A, refer back to my earlier question about who conducted it (staff or freelance). All of this is important to the context of the statements and merit we give it. |

It was a piece that promoted the first five album reissues along with Deep Cuts, contained quotes and reflections from both Roger and Brian billed as an "Exclusive Interview", and was written by a woman who's Twitter bio says "i interview pop stars for The Sun newspaper". All 137 articles listed on her journalisted profile were written for The Sun. |

I like this version without the effects. I cringed when I heard similar vocal effects on Electric Fire (forget the song). The piano and acoustic guitars sound great |

Having never heard much of Roger's stuff, this just sounds like "Everything is Broken" with different lyrics. Said lyrics make Brian's awkward mouthfuls in "We Believe" seem masterful; I wonder if they swap notes behind the scenes. |
catqueen 17.07.2011 16:09 |
I dunno... it is hypocritical i guess, but how many of us do similar things? I TALK about fair trade and promoting local businesses, cutting down on food millage etc, but i still shop in supermarkets cos they're handy. I know thats different, but still, we all do it to a certain extent. And what papers are THAT widely read that AREN'T Murdoch? There are limited options! |
brENsKi 17.07.2011 16:54 |
but you are making a choice as a consumer...that is your right Roger made a specific statment about Murdoch (about 20-odd times in the song)...but still used his media msucle to sell queen product....stinks of hypocrisy of the highest order...... two simple choices 1. make a stand....that you believe in, and stick to your guns 2. sell your product by whatever means, and keep your mouth shut |
Isle0fRed 17.07.2011 18:44 |
I've never been a fan of the bands solo work, that said, there are a few exceptions. This song however joins the pile of crap. While everyone has they're own opinions and ways of expressing them; Roger's song comes across as an egotistical plea for attention "Hey I hate Mr Murdoch, I even wrote a song about it, look at me". The song itself isn't even that good. I've only heard the song twice and I cannot remember the song one bit. |
john bodega 18.07.2011 01:28 |
Fun in Space and Man on Fire are so much better than this, and I'm not even joking. I can at least remember how those songs go. When I try to remember how Mr Murdoch goes, I just wind up humming Everything is Broken. |
Benn Kempster 18.07.2011 09:19 |
The funny thing is that so many people still seem to be surprised by the hypocrisy. Look at the song C-Lebrity - slags off the Idols / X-Factor concept and the "stars" it makes. And what did Brian and Roger do? Make themselves available as mentors / coaches and license the performance of Queen material for the very same programs to ++MAKE++ one such star! Dear Mr. Murdoch was a joke when it first appeared as Queen had relied on the publicity Murdoch's hacks generated for them for years. I don't suppose Roger had ever returned any royalty checks on the back of some promotional interview by the likes of David Wigg etc now did he? Freddie certainly didn't and actively courted / provoked them on and off stage. In '94 Roger was trying to be controversial with the Nazzis '94 song and Dear Mr. Murdoch, but all he ended up doing was showing just how laughable old rockers can be when they pen "protest" songs sat way up in their ivory towers looking down on the rest of us from their privileged, financially stable position. |
Rick 18.07.2011 13:58 |
Whine, whine, whine. It's a great song, with a lovely tune. Roger's solo career has been the most interesting one, in my opinion. Fun In Space is a piece of art. |

I had to smile when I read the re-release news on the Guardian website. link This article states: He donated £10,000 to the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association, which was protesting against Murdoch's £623m bid. "I heard on the news that [they] desperately needed the means to mobilise [their] opposition to the mighty Goliath," Taylor said at the time. "As I was in a position to help I felt compelled to do so." Wow, £10,000 from some worth tens of millions! Looks rather stingy to me Roger! dagi |
rhyeking 20.07.2011 19:03 |
I don't think Roger is just sitting on a giant pile of money in his living room. If he's smart, he's invested his money in various things. So, yes, he might be *worth* tens of millions, but it's probably not all disposable cash. So how much is enough in this situation? I'm sure the Man U folks were thrilled. And there's nothing stopping him from giving further donations. |
john bodega 22.07.2011 00:04 |
"I don't think Roger is just sitting on a giant pile of money in his living room." He hasn't been in his living room since 1979. There's too much money in there and he can't open the door. |
