in the current digital age, most major festivals, tours, gigs etc... by major bands (and even some lesser ones) are brought to us either as home releases, tv broadcasts, online webcasts etc..etc...
In the last few weeks alone the Foo Fighters have had three live gigs broadcast in the UK - a BBC weekend gig, T In The Park, and the iTunes festival last night. Other acts such as Kylie, Lady Ga Ga, Take That etc...have all had live gigs broadcast on TV in HD, 3D and other lovely mediums! Nearly every summer festival will be represented across BBC, ITV, and the Sky Arts channels, and regular shows like Abbey Road Sessions by a variety of artists are broadcast.
My point is (and there's nothing we can do about it unfortunately), how great would it have been for this broadcast age to have been around when Queen were in business in their prime? To be able to put a TV or PC on and watch something like a Queen BBC Abbey Road Session, a live full festival appearance (like Rio), one of their own gigs (Earls Court or Knebworth), a 'special' like the iTunes festival in a small venue etc...etc.. would have been great.
I suppose the other view could be that it would it actually have been overkill, and the risk of getting a show when the band were not on top form would be much higher, and destroy the reputation as a top live act?? I love the Foo Fighters, but cos of the regularity or their shows being available I'm almost becoming a bit 'meh' about it and not avidly running to the screen when they are on. Would I have been the same about Queen? I hope not.
This thread isn't really a question but just me thinking aloud, but does anyone have any thoughts/musings on this?
I think I would 'meh'.
Rainbow 74 is special because we only have 1 show from the Pre-Bohemian Rhapsody era. If we had 10 shows. It wouldn't be so special. Also songs like Hangman wouldn't have been special and mythical when we had 15 high-quality soundboard recordings and video footage of it.
I think it would be fantastic! I can recall, back in ancient times, being so hungry for any footage at all of Queen performing, and of course, in later years, when they hardly toured the U.S. at all, having access to performances via television or other media would have been fantastic!
I've seen Queen perform via Youtube more now that Freddie is gone than in all my years as a Queen fan combined when Freddie was alive.
If Freddie never died, thus Queen are still around. I somewhat believe the band would of split up in the early 90s. Had a reunion gig at Live 8 performing the same set-list as Live Aid, and like Live Aid, Queen would of stole the show.

Not realy sure I would agree they would of split up. Looking at how they tried to break away from Queen after Freddie past away, the love of perfoming and doing stadium gigs would of kept them together.
They might not of been as consitant, but I doubt they would of spit...
...But as for Live 8........ Queen would of smoked em all again... and even put U2 back in there place.. 2nd time around..
I think "Heaven for Everyone" would of been interesting should it of ever been played for a show like that. Fits the bill.
