To cut a long story short, I was speaking with two Texan blokes yesterday (Chuck & Chase.... Honestly) in my local. One of them saw Queen in Houston '77 and he thinks '80 (we concluded it wasn't a HS tour show). Anyway, he was mentioning about how the Summit was a great venue because of its big screens. He had seen many bands there, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Kiss, AC/DC among others he mentioned, and he said the screen was always used! I mentioned the '77 bootleg video, of which he knew nothing about, and I asked if the screen was definitely used in 1980 as no footage had ever surfaced. He said the screen was used for every band he went to see there, and was sure it was used in '80, as he would remember if it was a one off. Obviously he could be wrong, or the footage may not have been recorded. Can Gary or Greg shed any light on this? Greg did mention a few years back that a very early 80s show had recently been discovered. Was it Houston? |

That would be awesome if it was really filmed! |

sounds interesting |

If he IS correct, does that mean that (unless they stopped such practice soon after) the HS show from 20.08.82 at the same venue has been filmed too? This is getting exciting!!! Not that I'm getting carried away, but it would be good if GT could comment either way. |

As a Houstonian, I can tell you I miss the Summit! Great venue, not too big, and not too small. So many great concerts took place there. Anyhoo, The Summit had a CCTV system, and from what I know, all concerts were recorded. So I know there's a video of this concert, and the '82 HS concert floating around. The owner of these tapes is sitting on a goldmine. All Queen Productions has to do is do a little research to unearth these tapes. |

I hope this is true. A 1980 show on film would be great! |

Odd how its never been mentioned or even rumoured before but amazing if it does exist somewhere. |

The Queen Productions' should investigate this. Probably this dont have quality to be released, but QP should have a copy of this gigs, if the tapes exist. Especially because they dont have a full record of a gig of 1980. This kind of things need to be preserved. Every bit of Queen footage need to be preserved |

Can anyone say why didn't Queen think to have any of their U.S. Tours in in 80 and 82 filmed?? Given they were huge in the U.S. in 80 with a massive sell out tour , so just doesn't make sense their is no official filming of such gigs at NY or LA. Personally I think there is an overload of Euro concerts from the mid 80's and basically they were cool to watch 20 years ago on video, but Queen weren't so cool a live act in 85/86 compared to the late 70's early 80's! |

i'm seeing gary this weekend at the north american queen convention so ill ask him. |

But New York City was too expensive ! That's why they choose Montreal instead.... Nowadays hard to believe.... I mean i this digital era... But it is logical : thewy only could sell the films to cinema's and networkstations... since their wasn;t really a market for video tapes.... it was a new and rising medium and very expensive ! |

It's so strange that QPL doesn't comment and doesn't deny that this concert was filmed. |

I mean, it is just a new discussion here, who's to say that they're even aware yet that we've even been talking about it? Patience, buddy.... |

Barber's son wrote: I was thinking that you want once again show me that there is not my place ============================================================================================= No, Anton - this is not the case. Whilst you have been rude and abusive before, and it would serve you right if people never wanted to speak with you here again, it appears to me that you seem to have learned from past mistakes. As you have been pleasant since your recent reincarnation, I am therefore happy to be pleasant with you. Now, my answer above was a serious one! Queen Productions don't *have* to comment on anything. Sure, it would be nice if they could answer each and every one individual thing, but that's never going to happen, or they'd spend all day just conversing with us! They don't *need* to answer to anyone, least of all you for the way you have behaved, but if you'd like them to, you have to show a little patience AND be more pleasant about it. I hope you don't take that the wrong way, or use it as an excuse to hurl abuse my way. I have been fair to you before, but this is definitely your last chance as far as I'm concerned. Don't blow it! |

The problem is, The Summit (Compac Center) is now Lakewood Church. A friend of mine, who helped run sound for the church, mentioned the entire venue was gutted and remodeled when Lakewood signed its leasing agreement with the city. All the previous equipment and tapes where gone before Lakewood moved in. So, the tapes are either in someone's private collection, or the City of Houston has them locked up in their vaults. The City of Houston still owns the venue. |

Sounds dubious. Any story that's heard in a pub doesn't fill me with confidence. Maybe the topic title should be changed to "Queen at Houston '80 MAYBE filmed", as I thought there was going to be some solid proof. Hopes up for nowt! |

I'm here to bump this thread with some interesting info. It looks like the Summit REALLY did film every gig they could starting in 1975 and ending in 1985. Here is what I have come up with by searching youtube and official releases.: The Who 1975 The Eagles 1975 Aerosmith 1977 Queen 1977 Chicago 1977 KISS 1977 Bruce Springsteen 1978 Billy Joel 1979 Kansas 1980 The Cars 1985 So again it is very possible that both of Queen's 1980 & 82 gigs were filmed. |
