Are there any albums that you like except for that one song that grates on your nerves? This is not for those who think Hot Space would be fine without Dancer, Back Chat, Body Language, and Staying Power, or people like me who think The Miracle just stinks all the way around. One song that you think would have been better left off the album. To get the ball rolling, here are mine: Queen: Jesus Jazz: In Only Seven Days The Game: Another One Bites the Dust Hot Space: Body Language The Works: Radio Ga Ga It's a Kind of Magic: Friends Will be Friends Inneundo: All God's People |

(NOTW) Mustapha/Dead On Time/Fun It/Leaving Home.../ More Of That Jazz (Jazz) Dragon Attack (The Game) Dancer (Hot Space) Tear It Up/Machines (Works) My Baby Does Me (Miracle) All God's People (Innuendo) I don't dislike any of the tracks on AKOM or MIH, although neither are my favourites lol....that honour goes to Queen II. Queen, MIH and then Innuendo follow!! My least favourite "album" is Flash. |

Queen II - The Loser In The End News Of The World - Who Needs You Jazz - More Of That Jazz The Works - Machines A Kind Of Magic - Don't Lose Your Head The only song I really don't like is Don't Lose Your Head. It should have been replaced with something like I Go Crazy, or one of those B-Sides. The others were just, in my opinion, the weakest on the album. |

I thought Rain was by The Cult? anyway, I've always hated Jesus on the album, but I actually like the DLL version on the 2011 bonus disk. For the first time I realized they might have been doing a pastiche of Black Sabbath, a plodding heavy riff and marvelous psychedelic guitar. Lyrically it may have been tongue in cheek as a contrast to the nature of the music. Just an observation. I could be dead wrong. |

Sweet Lady - can't stand it White Man - can't stand it Without those songs on those particular albums, those would have been perfect. In addition, it would have been cool for ANATO and ADATR to be a double album. |

Queen - Seven seas of rhye Queen 2 - Some day one day Sheer heart attack - Misfire A night at the opera - God save the queen A day at the races - Drowse (hard to choose) News of the world - Get down make love (i hate the sexy interlude in the middle) Jazz - Leaving home aint easy The game - Dont try suicide (but great solo) Hot space - Body language The works - Tear it up A kind of magic - One year of love The miracle - My baby does me Innuendo - All gods people Made in heaven - Track 13 |

"Jazz: Mustapha - WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? SINCE WHEN DID FREDDIE WORSHIP ALLAH!" Shit.. I hate agreeing with you but it is by far the worst opening song of any Queen album. Sheer Heart Attack must have turned 10 million people off Queen who bought the record for Champions And We Will Rock You then heard dirge... |

That's a cool question. I like many albums just the way they are, but let me see what I would remove from each: Queen I - SSoR (intro) Queen II - that's a difficult one. I am keeping it all. What about SSoR, which would fit better as a stand-alone single? SHA - Dear Friends ANATO - Sweet Lady - though I like the ending, but if one has to go. ADATR - You and I News of the World - Sheer heart Attack, terrible. Jazz - In Only Seven Days and (maybe) Fun It, simply because I find their first funky tune should be AOBTD. Hey, Mustapha is cool, what's wrong with the tune? The Game - I actually like both tunes, but it would be Don't Try Suicide or Coming Soon. Hot Space - Body Language. I think that tune - while good to great in its own terms - did a lot of damage to their career in the USA. Many hard rock fans absolutely abandoned the band after that one. Many for the wrong reasons, I am sure, but in any case the very decision of recording the tune was a risky career move. I liked it more when the gamble was issuing BoRap as a single. The Works - I like this album. Man on the Prowl? Simply because they already had CLTCL. AKOM - Either Gimme the Prize or Don't Lose your head. I like Gimme... but they could have come with a much better heavy tune... I guess they had it with Princes... Miracle - I actually enjoy all tunes on this album. Rain Must Fall but I still find it fun, cheesy synth and all. Innuendo - Delilah - though hey, I would grant Freddie any thing he wanted at that point. There is some great stuff on the album. Made in heaven - I have to hear it more. I would say "I was born to love you". I like the tune but it was already well recorded on Mr. bad Guy. Thanks! Remember, it is just opinions, folks. ;-) |

Maybe it's not that bad, but the rest of ANATO is superb. I found interesting that Thistleboy 1980 chose The Prophet's Song and Seaside Rendezvous. As an old bastard who was in high school when Killer Queen hit the radio, I was immediately taken with Queen's over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek "music hall" blend of lyrics and musical styles. Their peers, 10cc, were also very much following the same path, writing an epic Gilbert & Sullivan parody about a french brothel at the same time as BoRap. IMHO, some replies are picking songs that are a part of this trend that runs through most of their middle period (ANATO to Game) when they seemed to be having the most fun. Well that's my POV and I'll give it a go of almost perfect albums from what I consider their most creative period: ANATO - The perfect album. Enough said. ADATR - Some weak points but not enough to mar another perfect album NOTW - My Melancholy Blues ("It's Late" should have closed that album) Jazz - Between Bicycle Race and More Of That Jazz, I'd give the nod to MOTJ which feels like it was stuck on the end for no real creative reason; Bicycle seemed too precious but I give Queen a big thumbs up for the promotional poster, video and auction! The Game - Play The Game (I always felt this was a limp way to start an otherwise terrific album) |
woodstar12 13.07.2011 04:24 |
Crap, this is certainly about personal opinion....and it is all so difficult Mine are: Miracle: Rain Must Fall Jazz: Mustapha News Of the World: Get down make love Queen II: Funny how Love is Night at the Opera: Good company The game: Sail away sweet sister Works: man on the Prowl Magic: Don't lose your head Hot Space: Body Language Innuendo: All Gods People Made in Heaven: That long instumental bit at the end!!!! I'm sure there might be a few more I skip over too. But this is the best I can do. I remember when me and my mate first played the single Champions/rock you, my mate after playing We will rock you said " well, I spose someone must like It"" the understatement of the century!!! My dad liked Jazz when I first bought it aged 16, which was a boost to me at the time.....but he thought Mustapha was rubbish , but then he liked Glenn Miller!!!! But he loved fat Bottomed Girls.......There you go!!!! I also remember trying to share Roger's Loser in the End with my Mum, who got offended by the lyrics about losing her son etc......I can see why now!!!! |
woodstar12 13.07.2011 04:30 |
I also hate "Don't try Suicide" off the game....forgot that one........ I think they lost the plot a bit when that album was released,,,,I was quite depressed upon hearing it. But it did grow on me. Strangely I think that the songs are often better live off that album and "another on e Bites Dust" ended up as one of my favorites. Probably because I got a lot of credit from my friends who were all into dance/soul music at the time!!!! |
therhyeman 13.07.2011 05:36 |
Well, I've said it before, but Mr Taylor should be deeply ashamed of forcing The Loser In The End onto an otherwise perfect album. And the others should be ashamed for letting him! It would have been a crap B-side at best. Have to agree with the people who chose Sweet Lady for ANATO. While it doesn't exactly make me rush to switch it off (it goes in one ear and out the other), I always felt it was Queen's first "ordinary" song. Sadly, there were many more to follow. News Of The World - track 3 onwards. Especially Spread Your Wings, possibly my least favourite song of all time. Well, the 70s anyway ... Tim |

Queen - Jesus, Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll, Seven Seas of Rhye Queen II - Loser in the End A Day at the Races - White Man News of the World - Get Down, Make Love, My Melancholy Blues Jazz - Mustapha The Game - Don't Try Suicide, Coming Soon (replace with A Human Body) Hot Space - Pretty Much Everything (Make an EP out of Put Out the Fire, Las Parables de Amour, Under Pressure, and Calling All Girls After The Game, Queen pretty much went downhill, in my opinion, and every subsequent album was patchy, so there's no reason to vote for which songs to remove. |

It's amazing reading through this thread how people's taste in music vary. For me, my list would be:- Queen - Jesus Queen 2 - Nothing Sheer Heart Attack - Bring Back That Leroy Brown A Night At The Opera - Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon/Seaside Rendevous/Good Company (it's a toss up here) A Day At The Races - Nothing (I view this as the perfect Queen album) News Of The World - Nothing (but Who Needs You is borderline) Jazz - Mustapha (Love the heavy section...but seriously...??) The Game - Don't Try Suicide Flash - Nothing (It works as a soundtrack I think) Hot Space - Cool Cat The Works - hmmm...hard to choose one here as they all fit into the theme. Kind Of Magic - Pain Is So Close To Pleasure The Miracle - The Invisible Man (uuugh) Innuendo - All God's People & Delilah! Man, how to kill an album with those two! Made In Heaven - I Was Born To Love You (I much prefer Freddie's version...this one just sounds silly) |
br5946 18.07.2011 03:12 |
I'm surprised no-one's suggested songs that mar Mr. Bad Guy, Fun in Space and the like. What are people's opinions on members' solo material? In that vein it would have to be this for me: Mr. Bad Guy - hmm... love Freddie's solo stuff mostly, but half of this album is great and half of it is dirge. The dirge consisting of Foolin' Around (*vomit*), Mr. Bad Guy (prefer the 1992 remix), TMBMtLTT (Freddie never really wrote ballads well), My Love is Dangerous (*vomits again*... I hate reggae) and LMLTNT (I guess I never really listened it) Another World - it's a classic album and Brian kicks true rocker's ass on it, it has to be said, but there are a few splotches: Why Don't We Try Again (Brian did great with ballads, but this has to be his solo version of Save Me... it's really not good), Cyborg (the mix of rock and electronica came out wrong... interesting experiment and I would love it if done right, but it failed), Wilderness (never really listened to it), Slow Down (half-assed rocker that ends up as sludge) and All The Way From Memphis (ditto as Wilderness). |

Seaside Rendevous/lazing on a sunday afternoon and Good company are "the vintage Queen Sound". Bring Back that Leroy Brown=pure Brilliance. Not sure how a person could be a Queen fan and not like those songs, it's like the guy who keeps saying how he hates the prophet song......for each their own I guess.... |

Wow.....still being kind of a new fan, I'm shocked at some of the choices, which also happen to be some of my favorites! I LOVE Hammer To Fall, All God's Children, Rain Must Fall, Coming Soon, Don't Try Suicide, Delilah, Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, Dead On Time, You And I, Man On The Prowl, Sheer Heart Attack, and a bunch more that I saw on people's lists. Although I love them all, my least favorite are the ones sung by Roger: Fun It, Loser In The End, Drowse, I'm In Love With My Car, (to the person who was surprised that a girl did not like this one, I have news for you: None of us girls like it! LOL ) Sorry, Roger.....I Love you! You're the greatest back up singer ever, but as far as lead goes, not so much. Then of course, there's the obligatory ones like Body Language, The Party (never got that one!), Jesus, & White Man. For all the rest, I think Queen is absolutely Perfect!!! Even with these few, they are the epitome of perfection! There have to be a few songs that don't appeal to everyone......After all, they ARE human......Aren't they?? Ha Ha!
