link Around 1:42-1:46 in the above link you can clearly hear Freddie cracking/squealing on the line never been born at all, and specifically, the word BEEN. link Here however, which is the 2009 broadacast, around 7:40-7:43, Freddie doesn't crack on the word BEEN. How do you think they fixed this? Did they take that one line from another concert? |
Bad Seed 04.07.2011 14:53 |
Yeah, not noticed that one. Its a pity they didn't fix the rest of the song, Its bloody awful! |

You know my post on the other board about not owning Live Killers, I think its stuff like this is the reason. I am massively distrustful of all official live recordings because there is just too much post production work that goes into it, they do not represent the actual gig. That leaves me with crappy mono fan recordings which I sound awful. I am happy to be proven wrong. |

Just like on You Take My Breath Away at Hyde Park released as a bonus track for A Day at the Races they fixed Freddie's piano error at the end of the song. |

Hmmm i think it's actually a rather decent version of the song. If you think this is off key I can only imagine what you would think of his Hyde Park performances. What do you think of Boston 76's version? It is very similar but slightly better. |

Freddie's voice was pretty unstable throughout the 1975 UK leg (mostly on the slower songs and the medley). This is most likely to either him not getting 100% used to his nodules, or touring right after recording the Opera album. Him trying to sing in a lighter with a voice not at 100% is pretty hard (which can cause unstable tone and/or pitch). The medley is shaky on Hammersmith, and In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited isn't very good. Boston 1976 is an improvement because his voice and tone are more stable. |

I understand why you say that about Hammy but during all the other 1975 Opera gigs I've heard he sounds very good, hardly unstable, and very similar to how he sounded on the North American leg. Gigs like Coventry and Dundee are great and I find nothing wrong with them although he could have been a bit more daring. But even at Hammy he still sounds decent and sounds much better than he did in Japan or Hyde Park later in 1976. |

Examples include during songs like Killer Queen and In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited: When he hits notes in the 4th octave, he either adjusts the pitch, or he drops the note phrasing during the actual sung syllable. That's the instability I'm talking about. It's most noticeable on Hammy 1975 (he also was sick--which probably added to the problem). Japan 1976 is full of fail (except a couple gigs), and Hyde Park is OK overall. |

Hammy 1975 is quite an average concert overall. Boring setlist as well. |

Rick wrote: Hammy 1975 is quite an average concert overall. Boring setlist as well. Agreed. That's why if released, it shouldn't take the place of releasing any other concert. Honestly, it seems like it would make a pretty shitty release and we've already seen it in it's best quality possible unlike all the other 70's gigs. |

Have QP found the Master soundboardtapes of Hammy '79 already? Gary where are you????Help needed |

I think this should be a bonus to Hyde Park. And ditch the title Legendary "75 Concert. Any non Queen fan would think 'I'd hate to see one of there un-legendary concerts'! And finally, turn Freddie's vocal down! If it was the '79 show fine, but when he's off key etc like this, it really shouldn't be cutting through the mix the way it does. Vocals down, guitars up! |

Is there such a thing as a proper decent stereo desk mix warts and all Queen gig? Or do I have the choice of a plastered over semi performance flossed and buffered studio 'live' gig and a crappy dictaphone audience recording? |

If they release Hyde Park I sure hope they either turn Freddie's vocals down in the mix or fix his pitch like they did with Montreal '81's Bo Rhap which they made sound even more spectacular. |

I always thought this wasn't a very good concert, especially Freddie's vocals are awful this evening. He's flat almost the entire time. Ah well... still a nice document :) |

Yes, it's just a bit over familiar now isn't it? Imagine if this was discovered now and we were seeing it for the first time? And I'll always say the Rare Live edit of the RNR Medley trumps the full version. |

It's a solid performance, but one we've seen/heard so much it tends to get a bit boring. Personally, I think the segue into MotBQ is one of Queen's better moments. |
