I would like for everyone to join together in unison! Do I have all your ear's? Okay I would like you all to tell me what you personally think the best live version of each and every song Queen played. I would start out with the first album. Place your favorite version in the margins likle so: 1. Keep yourself alive [Boston 1976] 2. Doing alright [Earls court 1977] 3. Great king Rat [Tokyo, Japan May 1, 1975] So that's where i'm going to start. I would love to hear other peoples posts. |

I'm not gonna write something for EVERY song but I'll write something for their hits... 1. Bo Rhap -Glasgow 1979 2. Somebody to Love - Montreal 1981 (The official release one) - yes im not going by quality, it is actually the best in my opnion...i dont often consider songs from official releases to be the best versions 3. Killer Queen - Newcastle 12/3/1979 4. We Are the Champions - 12/3/1979 5. Another One Bites the Dust - Montreal 1981 (The official release one) 6. A Kind of Magic - Leiden 6/11/1986 7. Save Me - Newcastle 12/3/1979 8. Spread Your Wings - Newcaste 12/4/1979 9. Play the Game - London 12/8/1980 or 12/9/1980 10. Don't Stop me Now - Newcastle 12/3/1979 |

I'm guessing people want me to make my list? :) |

I wasn't asking quality. I meant in terms of improvisation with the red special, the shap of Fred's voice, the sound of Roger's drum's, and how well John Deacon's bass can be heard through the tape recorder. I know it's a lengthy task for everyone to add their favorite date's and venue's where their preferred version of each Queen song was performed here on this forum. So I suppose I'll do it then.I hope oneday to make some sort of compilation of their best live stuff. It's a little project of mine. Think of it like alternative versions of their song's [since we either don't have the tape from which the specific song was recorded or it was never performed live period]. So for instance if your favorite version of My Fairy King was the BBC version [in my opinion because the guitar is turned up a notch] then you would add that to the list. Although it's already been officially released, so we can't post it here. If I had the technology I would make a compilation mixtape and put it on here. Two or three discs worth of material [probably more]. I would begin with the first album. If we could get all those definitive versions compiled on here, that would be splendid. Is anybody willing to assisst me? |

Under Pressure from 11/24/1981 (not the official Montreal version) is the best version ever! Radio Ga Ga from Live Aid is definitely the best performance of the song! |

And it's not like the Live Aid one is very arguable like most other ones...that one is the best BY FAR! |

Please forgive my rambling in advance... I have been meaning for quite a while now to undertake a project like this, where I compile (probably in high-ish quality MP3 format), the best available (whether it be an official releases or Queen or solo bootlegs) live versions of every song performed live from each album. Like a live compilation for each album. There are a few rules or guidelines I would employ for the latter albums released in Queen's non-touring period. A song performance featuring more original members should trump one with less. Eg. The 1997 version of 'The Show Must Go On' with the 3 remaining members and Elton John would be picked before a Queen + PR version with only 2 original members. In some cases I might add 2 versions of the same song if it has been sung my different singers - especially if one of them is the song's composer. Eg. I'd be tempted to include 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' from the Freddie Tribute concert as well as Roger's performance from his 1998 Cyberbarn concert Because it's quite a large task, I figured I would start backwards. I have only 2 songs to include from the MIH album, (those being a yet to be determined version of Brian singing 'Too Much Love Will Kill You' and a great version of 'I Was Born To Love You' (Brian & Roger on vocals in Nagoya Japan, on November 1st, 2005). There are two main reasons why I have not yet begun this project. One of them is that my wife is frequently on my case about how much time I spend sourcing, categorising and listening to various Queen bootlegs. The other will sound silly, I know. There are a surprising number of available performances to include on an Innuendo compilation. There are versions of Brian singing 'Headlong'; Roger singing 'Ride the Wild Wind' and 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' (as well as the aforementioned FM Tribute concert version) and Brian's live version of 'Bijou' from Q+PR Live in Ukraine. My problem concerns the title track. (It will sound silly I know), but my disappointment in Robert Plant's version from the Freddie Tribute is hurting my enthusiasm for the entire project. (For what it's worth, I think the band played the song really well, but Plant's obviously not knowing the words ruined the performance). Does anyone know of any other Queen-related live recording of this song? |

Now I'm Here (Hammersmith Odeon 26.12.1979) 6. Save Me (Newcastle 3/4.12.1979) 7. Love Of My Life (Melbourne 19.4.1985) 8. Killer Queen (Tokyo 11.5.1985) 9. I'm actually a year into this project :P I've put all the bootlegs I have in chronological order and have been listening to them straight...from Ibex 1969 - Present (including guest appearances). I'm using queenconcerts site to see what is available and notating what I have and what I don't have. I'm going through everything and trying to pick for the most part my favs for whatever reason. Right now I'm up to Brian in Budapest during the Another World Tour... It is tough because as much as you can love a band like I love Queen, etc. sometimes the songs can kind of flow together so I wouldn't be surprised if I miss a great performance one day because my mind wandered a bit over the year plus :P But I'll get through, go back and listen to everything that I didn't have or anything new that comes out and then I'll compile. I'm still a fair bit away from being finished though :D |

Well I will begin my list starting with the 70's 1. Keep yourself alive [Boston 1976] 2. Doing alright [ 5-1-75 Budokan] 3. Great king rat [5-1-75 budokan] 4. My fairy king [ May 15, 1985 Osaka] 5. Liar [5-1-75 such an energetic performance] 6.The night comes down [I prefer the De lane demo where Freddie's voice is heard more vividly] Technically it was live in the studio. Well Now I'm thinking we'd better just leave this off the list. 7. Modern times rock n' roll [Portland, maine 1974] 8. Son an daughter [March Rainbow 1974] 9. Jesus [again the de lane in my humble opinion is superior than the studio or perhaps not since it's an offical release] 10. procession [Like Greg said any high quality version] 11. Father to son [ 4-28-75 Okayama] 12. White Queen [ Earls court 1977 first night] 13. Ogre battle [I would choose the Earls court 1977 version if Freddie's microphone didn't go in and out of synch, so Boston 1976] 14. The march of the black Queen [Hammersmith 1975] 15. Seven seas of Rye [Boston 1976] 16. Brighton Rock [Hammersmith 1975] 17. Killer Queen [First night Montreal 1981] 18. Flick of the wrist [ Free trade in Manchester 1975] 19. Now i'm here [ Hammersmith 1979] 20. In the lap of the gods [5-1-75] 21. Stone cold crazy [ Boston 1976] 22. Bring back that leroy Brown [ Hammersmith 1975] 23. In the lap of the gods [Revisited] [I'm caught between 5-1-75, earls court 77', hammersmith 75', Mini Estadi, Barcelona 86', and Boston 76'] 24.Death on two legs [Oakland 1980] 25. Lazy on a sunday afternoon [Boston 1976] 26. I'm in love with my car [Hammersmith 79] 27. Your my best friend [ Hammersmith 79] 28. 39' [Hammersmith 79'] 29. Sweet lady [ Boston 76'] 30. The prophets song [Boston 76'] 31. Love of my life [May 9, 1985] 32. Bohemian Rhapsody [Watc Video shoot 1977 & Newcastle first night 79'] 33.Tie your mother down [ new york 1977 second night] 34. You take my breathe away [5-12-77 Copenhagen though it skips abit the most beatiful version I've ever heard] 35. The millionaire waltz [New york first night 77'] 36. Somebody to love [Milan 85' 37.White man [Houston 77' or 3-13-77 if the quality wasn't so distorted] 38. Good old fashioned lover boy [Copenhagen 78'] 39. Teo Torriate [Sapporo 82'] 40. We will rock you [slow version] [hammersmith 79'] [fast version] [Any live performance would be fine] 41. We are the champions [Hammersmith 79'] 42. Sheer heart attack [hammersmith 79'] 43. Spread your wings [hammersmith 79'] 44. Get down make love [Copenhagen 78'] 45. It's late [Chicago 78'] 46. My melancholy blues [Houston 77'] 47.Mustapha [Oakland 80'] 48. Fat bottomed girls [oakland 80'] 49. Bicycle Race [I really don't have a prefference for this one, I suppose anything from Japan] 50. If you can't beat them [Hammersmith 79'] 51.Let me entertain you [Hammersmith 79'] 52. Dreamers ball [Paris 79'] 53. Don't stop me now [ Hammersmtih 79'] I'll do the 80's later. This is my definitive list of whats available that I think is suitable for a live compilation of Queen's work from the 70's. |

I almost forgot! Hangman {Although the 75' version is the most auidible, I prefer the 4-176 version. It seems the most complete version out there] [ I also like the version in Milwaukee where right before the accelerated part of the song, a blistering version of modern times rock n' roll is played. It just goes to show how experience these queenie's were at this point. It also reveals that Hangman had potential to be placed on their debut album a segue way into Modern times. See what a fool i've been [Goldersgreen 73', hammersmith 75', 4-19-75, and WATCH video shoot] I'm torn between these four. |

Nice to know other people agree with me that WATC Video Shoot's version of BoRhap is one of the best. But I still think Glasgow 1979 has a much better version than Newcastle 1979 2nd night. |
