I found this in wikipedia: Highlander: The ReckoningOn May 20, 2008, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Summit Entertainment is planning a remake of the original 1986 Highlander film. The script for the new film will be penned by writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who both worked on the Iron Man film. Peter Davis will produce the new film [13]Justin Lin the director of Fast and Furious has signed on to direct the remake.[14] Live For Film has announced the film will be entitled Highlander: The Reckoning,[15] however also acknowledged that sequels in the Highlander franchise had generally not been well received.On March 2010, producer Neal H. Moritz stated in an interview that "We’re staying true to the mythologies as a whole of the Highlander series. Now there are certain things between all the different Highlanders that conflict with each other, but we’re trying to stay true to the core of what we believe Highlander is and it’s a movie that’s going to be made for the fans of Highlander but also for people who are new to the franchise." He also expressed interest in incorporating the music of Queen in the new film, just as the original did.[16]On February 9th 2011, it was announced that Melissa Rosenberg was "in negotiations to come on board the Highlander reboot to work on that script." [17] I think the first Highlander movie is great, but i didn't enjoy so much the others. So i'm happy Queen only work for the first one. But a remake is different, is a return to the origins without nonsense scripts (aka all highlander movies except the first) and could be great. What do you think? Is possible use again Queen's music in the remake? |

Queen's music is what makes the original film, just like it's their music that makes Flash Gordon. As far as I'm concerned, the original Highlander will NEVER be topped and any new version is very likely to be way too fantastical and OTT special effects laden to be believeable, which the original is! Why can't they just leave certain things alone? |

I was actually thinking the other day that a Highlander remake has the potential for being well-done, before I found out such a thing has been proposed. In the right hands, with the right script, there's a lot they can do with this story. Yes, Queen's music (and that of the late Michael Kamen) is a big part of the original, but we're not talking about removing the music from the same old film. If the director has a solid vision and makes the new film well, it won't need Queen. It's a matter of serving the need of the film, not being a vehicle for the soundtrack, which frankly a lot Queen fans watch Highlander for (that is to say, for the music). Pretty much every Highlander movie after the first was sub-par, I think we'd all agree. It's not because there was little to no Queen music (though that might have helped...a bit), it's because the scripts were dodgy, there were massive continuity errors and studio interference. The TV series was alright, at least watchable (I never saw much of The Raven, so no comment there). A remake, even a bad one, can't do anything to tarnish the original at this point. If it's really bad, it'll be forgotten. Either way, the original will still be regarded as a good movie. |

well the first "Highlander" is one of my favourite movies,not only because of the music,also it was a nice epic-fantasy movie.The second one nothing really interesting,they inserted in the main story ecological elements,so it lost it's original script,and now part III? let's leave it alone to rest... |

If I remember correctly, there was some beautiful orchestral (mainly strings ) version of Who Wants To Live Forever in the Highlander II... it was that scene when the girl comes over to McLeod and sees all his stuff from different time periods e.g. captain's diary etc. |

For me, the only things that kind of detracts from the first film is is the constant shifting of tone throughout. I blame this on two things: the time it was made (the '80s) and the novelty of the concept, which I think is quite original (Immortals fighting each other over centuries). The film shifts between epic, fantasy adventure, police mystery procedural, ironic comedy and dramatic love story. Sometimes I get the sense that the movie either isn't sure what it wants to be or is trying to be a little of everything. Overall, I think it's a really good movie and has a lot of re-watch value, but a remake could tighten up the tone and keep it consistent throughout. The biggest thing I'd move away from is the tongue in cheek "we know he's immortal (wink, wink)" gags, like when he's underwater or shot or stabbed. You can have humor, but play it more straight, based on who the characters are, rather than (in this case) what they are. I think the movie had such an interesting premise that it tried to do everything it could with it, rather than leaving some questions unanswered, thereby leaving a bit of mystery around who the immortals are and what it means to live forever. The writers should know what the answers are, of course, but they don't need to tell us everything. I like guessing and trying to fill in the blanks myself. Still, it's a really good movie. A remake with a ramped up sword-fighting choreography, slightly more focused story and a bit more mystery could prove to be just as good or better. |

Highlander is one of thoses films that DOESNT need any sequals, nor remakes or any other spawn of it.The film is a cult classic for a reason. It is also a product of its decade. If they are to remake it, I think they shouldn't use any of Queen's music or Micheal Karmen's score for the remake as it would just remind you the film is a remake of a film and not its own product. It would also stick out like a saw icky thumb; imagine great 2011/12 special effects with Queen music, it does not connect (in theroy) |

I was never a massive fan of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'. but in the context of this movie, it could not be more approprite. Especially the more heartfelt scenes. |

There even a official release, the CD ''Highlander:The Original Scores'' have some songs from the three movies and include two orchestral versions of ''Who wants..'', ''The Quickening'' (Only half of the song), and ''Who Wants To Live Forever'' (a full arrangement of the song for orchestra, made by Michel Kamen and Brian May, it's a beautiful music) Info of the CD: link ( I have it and the music is great, and the sound is in awesome quality) The Quickening (part of Who Wants..): link |

Never heard of Queen Highlander was the first movie that really impressed me story-wise, I was 7 years old, still never heard of Queen Untill it all fell into place in the early ninetees when Queen happened for me.. a lot of epiphanies back then :p |

The two are the same arrangements from the first part, ''The Quickening'' for the sex scene, and ''Rachel's Surprise/Who Wants To Live Forever'' for the other scene. They only did ''Copy/Past'' with the music. The crew knew the film was too weak so they included references from the first film, like the ''Who Wants'' orchestral, ''A Kind of Magic''(studio version), Lambert said his line ''Hey, It's a kind of magic'' (again), and the bad guy driven like crazy when sound a ''Dozen Red Roses-esque'' song, like the Kurgan in the first film. The only good things of the film are Conery, Madsen, and the score of Copeland |
