Why is Freddie Mercury dressed as a penguin on the back of Queen 1? Also is Brian's costume in the I'm Going Slightly Mad vid some sort of homage?
there are a few pics on the back of that album that make me wonder, what are your thoughts?

That makes a lot of sense, because I was wondering why there were pics of Freddie w/ a sword. Thanks. ...does anyone know where that drummer toy (middle of album) comes from?
I've read a very long time ago that Brian was/is a penguin lover. There's been a photo of Brian with a beard back in the mid70's with a black blazer on wearing a little penguin pin. Also, he's dressed as one in the "Slightly Mad" video.

thanks for the info dude :) im also going to be a penguin lover now, so now my fav animals are wolves and penguins, hmmmmmmmm....thats just given me a new sowing idea! thanks dude! ;)
P.S do you by any chance have a photo of brian with the penguin pin? would love to see it :P
In the early Queen days Brian would often mention that his favourite animal was a penguin. He was then inundated with fluffy animals, pins, toys and pictures from all over the world, especially from Japan. This happened for years after.
Yes it is only Brian in the penguin costume - not Freddie.
The other photos are of the Smile days and from the Marquee in 1972. Also Queen's first professional photo session with Douglas Puddifoot.
The toy drummer is Rogers, sat on a tin drum, with a stereo photo taken by Brian.
apparently, Brians affinity with penguins stemmed from the fact that record numbers of them were being hunted and slaughtered by polar bears in the seventies and there were several campaigns to protect them, which Brian subscribed to.
And there you have it !.

Master marathon runner.
The lens of history has exaggerated that situation more than a little. It was only the penguins that wouldn't fly away from the polar bears that were victimized. All that fuss over a little natural selection. Kind of silly.
Brian is wearing the penguin costume and it is the same costume used for Slightly Mad video
Source: Peter Freestone (I asked once about this and also about who was the man behind the gorilla costume and that person who was working on the video shoot)

I believe John Anthony, one of the producers, is the man in the picture.
No Rick I did not. Thanks anyway
