It's always been interesting to me to talk with people who attended these gigs at the Earls Court in 1977. Maybe some of you QZ'ers did attend these gigs? Can you please share your memories? |
Hangman2011 25.05.2011 14:19 |
Truthfulness yours memories, not just a story, a story must be supported by photographs. copying pictures from websites, and so on is prohibited |

One of my old pals was at one of the Earls Court gigs..He swears that the video screens were in black & white. To be fair to Steve, he drank so much back then, everything was probably black & white to him.. |

Haha ... yes, very likely ! Concert stories are often fogged up by various chemical substances. |

Boy how this thread change from " Did some of you attend these gigs " To A Fight At The Opera". Let's behave now boys. I never attended an Earl Court gig, but I attended all but 2 at Madison Square Garden gigs. God I miss the excitement of those Queen Concerts being announced. Thanks to all the great QZer here, we have many on video and audio. Unfortunately many Americans missed out on something special. I'm just glad I 'm not one of them. |

I'm just glad I 'm not one of them. ==== You mean you were at the two gigs in New York on December 1 and 2, 1977? Let me correct and clarify myself. I did not buy tickets for the 9/30/80 show and 7/28/82 show. I purchased tickets for all of the other shows at Madison Square Garden and did not get to see the 12/2/77 show. I missed that show because I accidentally brought the wrong ticket to the Garden. I had purchased tickets to see KISS at the Garden around the same time I purchased the Queen tickets, and I accidentally mixed the tickets up. When I went to see Queen on Dec 2, I gave the guy at the gate the ticket and realized it was a KISS ticket. Security would not let me in so I let my 2 friends see the show and I went home. What made matters worse was My friend snuck a tape recorder in to record the show but I had the batteries. He had dead batteries in the recorder in case the guard found the recorder. At the time they would usually just take the batteries out of the recorder, then let you in. So I got a double dose of bad luck that night. The most interesting experience with Queen for me was, when Queen came to NY in 1980, I lived in a predominantly black neighborhood (Coney Island). One night sometime after Queen did their 3 gigs at the Garden, a black man noticed a Queen Sticker on my bag that I got off the street from a local rock station WPLJ. He came up to me and pointed at the sticker and said "You got to see Queen? Damn those white boys are BAD" or something like that. That made me realize how far Queen reached out to the masses in the states and the barrier they broke when they released AOBTD. That made me proud because that enforced my thought that I was a huge fan of a very special band. |

Impressive that you got to see all those shows. The one venue I would have loved to see them perform was Wembley Stadium. Back then, selling out a concert ( in Queens's case twice) was the ultimate proof that a band made it big. |

Is there a single Queen show you saw that had the most resounding effect on you? ================================================================================ Two show's stand out for me, the first was the very first gig that Queen did at the garden. That was my first concert ever. Mercury's voice wasn't top notch but the band played pretty tight. The second was the first night of the Jazz gig. There was a lot of electricity in the air and I had my then future mother- in - law there with her boyfriend who was a music teacher at one of the local private schools. She was a big fan of salsa music, so rock was new to her. She went to see Queen because she loved the song Sombody To Love. I rememebr her dancing in the aisle, and it was a bit awkward because she was the only one around us going crazy dancing to the up tempo songs. |
