I know this subject has probably been done to death before but I am at work, it's lunchtime and I am bored and I like other fans 'lists' so what would make up your perfect Queen album. Taking a lead from GH1 and GH2 choose 17 tracks and try and make the album flow. I really like Dancer as a track and it would probably feature in my top 10 tracks but I just don't think it would work shoved on an album in between The March of the Black Queen and Liar but then you could always argue you have an eclectic mix of queen songs but I will leave that to you. Mine album would be 1. Princes of the Universe (I love the start of the song, full blast makes you just want to jump up and sing) 2. Father to Son 3. I was Born to Love You (MIH version, it is a Queen album after all) 4. The Prophets Song 5. You Take My Breath Away 6. Liar 7. Don't Stop Me Now (who cannot listen to this and not have a smile on their face?) 8. The March of the Black Queen (quite simply THE greatest song of all time in my humble opinion) 9. Seaside Rendezvous 10. Need Your Loving Tonight 11. Teo Torriatte 12. See What a Fool I've Been (BBC session 2011 remix) 13. It's Late (this song got me into Queen so it will always be special) 14. Somebody to Love 15. Bohemian Rhapsody (has to be there doesn't it?) 16. Was it all Worth it? 17 The Show Must Go On Extra Bonus Track........... Dancer (couldn't resist) |

I'd rather list a perfect version of a "real" album, as the different periods have different sound, production styles and so on, to me mixing songs from 73 to 91 would'nt make a cohesive album. (only IMO) So here's my dream-version of The Miracle (because I think that album is a lost Opportunity): Party (no loops, real dums) Kashoggi's Ship The Miracle (Piano instead of String-accompaniment) I want it all Invisible man Chinese Torture (as an experimental closer to one side of a classic vinyl-album) Breakthrough Scandal I guess we're falling out (as a relaxed, "pop-ish" counterpoint to the 2 rather dramatic songs before and after) Hang on in there (what a shame this was only the B-Side to IWIA - one of my all-time faves) Stealin' (a "breather" as Freddie described MBDM, but it's raw, not programmed, spontaneous. Love it) Was it all worth it And RMF, MBDM, MLHBS would have made nice B-Sides. But for the album I always thought the're just substandard lyrically and in terms of arrangement. |

here goes: 1. A Kind Of Magic 2. I Want To Break Free 3. Back Chat 4. Hammer To Fall 5. Staying Power 6. Princes Of The Universe 1. Radio Ga Ga 2. Put Out The Fire 3. Who Wants To Live Forever 4. Under Pressure 5. One Vision It may sound like an 80s greatest hits - but they're strong songs and Queen had very weak "album songs" during this period.. especially on AKOM.... So if I had to sum up the 80s after the Game/Flash in one 10 track album - that would be it - also sounds cohesive... had to leave out the Miracle since his voice is significantly different... think that became apparent around Heaven For Everyone/Barcelona (very subtle) and moreso on In My Defence... methinks he stopped smoking soon after he learned he was HIV positive... the lack of smoking caused him to lose his raspiness - thus giving him a nasally sounding vocal becoming incredibly obvious right after the first beats of Party off the Miracle |

I'd say this would be the perfect twelve-track album (not the best twelve songs in their catalogue, but the twelve songs that work perfectly together in that order): 1. Death on Two Legs: I mean, what an opener! 2. Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon: Great contrast. 3. I'm in Love with My Car: One of Roger's best compositions and vocal performances. Great backing track too. 4. You're My Best Friend: A Deacy classic, perfect harmonies, gorgeous guitar solo. 5. '39: IMO, the best Queen song ever. 6. Sweet Lady: Wonderful contrast, wonderful drumming, great guitars especially in the outro. 7. Seaside Rendezvous: Building such a mini-orchestra out of just voices ... wow! 8. The Prophet's Song: Should've been titled The Perfect Song. 9. Love of My Life: One of the best ballads ever written. Wonderful in all aspects. 10. Good Company: All of that huge brass and woodwind section coming from just guitars ... wow" 11. Bohemian Rhapsody: Such a masterpiece. It's a cliché for a reason. 12. God Save the Queen: What a way to follow their magnum opus! I wonder if anybody else has heard those twelve tracks in order... |

Well from what I can recollect, this post has been on this thread before. But nontheless I will give out my two cents. In my humble opinion all their albums are amazing, but I will agree their are alot of cookie cutters and song fillers. So for the first album I believe instead of maybe Jesus, the underrated gem Hangman could have transitioned into modern times rock n, roll. As it did once in a Milwauke 1976 where after Freddie screams the line "you gonna come watch me die", It reverberates off Roger's fast paced drumming as modern times rock n, roll starts. The perfect contrast from the music Queen were gradually transitioning into. Another observation is how the drumming after Great king Rat sounds alot like the beginning of Liar, but apparently it's the migration of Mad the swine. If they could put a direct refference to Jesus christ himself in their album, I think they could have added a song about a pig saviour who has come to earth to tell his disciples what he has done for them [or some outrageous drivel like that]. |
