"You don't fool me"- one of the amazing songs, one of the modern-sounding songs. This song is the index of the band's sound in the 90-s. I may say so? What makes this song so modern? |
Thistle 17.05.2011 19:04 |
I guess it sounds so modern because not only could Queen move with the times, they were mostly ahead of it! The guys are real innovators, plain and simple. |
Aleks 18.05.2011 01:13 |
Many thanks! What innovations have this song? |
dysan 18.05.2011 04:31 |
It's totally gash! Sound like those bad 80's Sparks songs. Totally spent. |

O, this completely oppositive views! |

I love "You Don't Fool Me". Even more amazing to know the backstory behind it (about how it was basically just bit pieces of Freddie singing a verse that was then 'turned into' a complete track - great stuff!) |
Aleks 18.05.2011 07:50 |
Many thanks. This is interesting observation. Where this information can be found in more detail? |
dysan 18.05.2011 09:11 |
I think that's why I don't like it - it's like the leftovers, the very dregs of Freddies life there scraped up off the harddrive and served up as art. |

I personally have no problem with how Made In Heaven was put together. Actually, I'm kinda amazed at how great it is, considering what very little 'new' material they had to even work with. I only recently found out Let Me Live was an older, unfinished Freddie vocal from the early 80s - to me that ended up making the song even better because I love the fact that Freddie, Roger and Brian each ended up singing a full verse. But You Don't Fool Me... to me, great - catchy, etc. And I'm also a big fan of what they did with turning the 2 Freddie solo songs into 'Queen' tracks. Of couse I still love the originals, but to have the option of hearing the Queen production on those as well... awesome. |

Great track. Love the solo. I think fans don't give David Richards enough credit for this song. Didn't he put it together from scraps and then got the band involved in it? |
Aleks 18.05.2011 11:57 |
Yes, I read about it. "The dregs"- this is strong word. We see the respect for these "pieces". I think isn't dissonance between the singing and sound. The result is very good. |

Thistleboy 1980 sums it up perfectly. YDFM is an absolute joy, always loved it! master marathon runner |

One of my all time favourites, although I do have a lot of problems with MIH. But this track is great, atmospheric, mesmerizing, melodic. And the solo - wow! To me it doesn't sound like cobbled together from bits and pieces, DR did a fantastic job here. Does anybody know what the basic demo actually was like? |
malicedoom 18.05.2011 13:27 |
Plus didn't "You Don't Fool Me" set the record for having the most (ridiculous) amount alternate mixes available out there? I think I own 4 or 5 of them and I'm probably missing another 6 or 7 - lol. |
Wiley 18.05.2011 15:50 |
I read a list of YDFM remixes about 10 years ago and it included SIXTEEN different versions (some being edits of another mix). I don't know what the exact amount of versions is. |

Meh. By this time Tricky, The Prodigy and them lots were making massive leaps in complex soundscapes & scaring up alternate universe in dance, not to mention the synth-only folks of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche etc spinning un-rock worlds with richer woe-is-me history behind them. Don't get why they process Freddie's vox so much that it's muffled, neither rising above to take charge like the super-diva he could be (as Massive Attack might've used him), nor completely at one with the synths (he's too distinctive, but who the hell is he whispering to and what fer? A problem compounded by the generic angsty teen-clubbing vid.) The only saving grace is Brian let loose, shuttling out of the accomplished geriatric muzak of Last Horizon (joking), onto the dance floor where everyone's younger than even Jimmy May:P At least it's a long way since the difficulty of inserting himself into Hot Space synths - but certainly a bit laggard compared to New Order/Electronic/Depeche's Song of Faith & Devotion by then. Ok, it's an 1-off. Who knows what greater things they could've done if given more time. * Just compare how little Jr Vasquez could improve on Bicycle Race (beyond quixotic and purrrrfect!), to what could possibly done to remix YDFM. It's already watered down unless you get creative hacking up the solo. (Although it's not bad as a breather, being a part of MIH's flow.) |

Always been a fan of this song...one of Brian's best moments as far as solos go...and the rhythm part is cool. The remixes...every last one of them blow!! |

One of the best songs on MIH that I remember so well from the record company's presentation in Sweden in october 1995. I felt it was very catchy and Brians solo is amazing... |
Rick 19.05.2011 13:14 |
One of Brian's finest solos. |

I have a maxi Cd with 4 of those versions, the album cut, the edit, sexy club remix and dancing divaz remix, take it from me, the album version is the only one worth listening to on this particular cd, im open to all sorts of queen remixes, but the sexy club remix is just plain dreadful...its jus freddie saying 'sexy' for 10 minutes!!! |
dowens 22.05.2011 21:00 |
I wish Queen would release some "in-depth" documentary on the entire Made in Heaven album. I know YDFM was made from "scraps," but boy...I'd love to know more. It's a great track. It would just be interesting to have a documentary on MIH, much like the one done for ANATO. |
john bodega 23.05.2011 01:48 |
Yeah, well they'd have an excuse to do some Making-Of if they would just release a fucking GVH3 already. |

They are called "solitaire dance mix" and "solitaire ambient mix", and if I remember well they sound a bit like the "dub dance single mix", although not exactly the same of course. |

Yesterday afternoon, after a bad day, I got into my car and when I turned on the radio "You don't fool me" was playing. It was the first time that I heard this song on the radio!! It completely changed my mood. :) |
