Jack Layton's sudden rise in popularity may just be what gives Harper his majority, though I hope and pray and hope and pray and hope some more that's not the case. Parts of Ontario may just flip out and move from the hopeless Liberals to the Tories in stark fear of Bob Rae redux. I'll be hopelessly voting Liberal, but my riding will be going NDP, thus indirectly supporting your dream of a Layton government. You're welcome. ;)
If I were Canadian, I'd vote for William Shatner. Or is that not how it works?
I voted for the movie Die Hard at the last General Election in the UK. It wasn't on the list of candidates so I had to write it in with a pen. Great movie! Didn't win though: David Cameron got in instead. Will vote for Superbad at the next election. McLovin, you're so badass!

You have to write it in? That's so silly! In my advanced society we just have to tear our ballots into the proximal shape of the Star Trek logo and speak in Shatneresque rhythms to the ballot box watchers. Though I suspect Shatner's support will be down this year as he just appeared in our paper of record blathering on about the Canadian seal hunt from Los Angeles. Canadians generally hate that. Not because we know all that much about the seal hunt really, just because it's really annoying when the world ritualistically ignores you except when you're clubbing baby mammals. Don't bother us!
PS Superbad was the best! :)
Ha ha ha. I'm watching election results via Twitter with the subversive tag #tweettheresults to get around Elections Canada laws that blackout results to the east via traditional media until polls close locally. This one just flew by: http://twitter.com/#!/mattdipaola/status/65203078596526080
I can imagine that there are people stupid and/or evil enough to vote for Harper. After all, there are those who are stupid/evil enough to vote for Wilders, for Le Pen, for Berlusconi, etc. However, what completely baffles me is how they can still vote for him after he's actually been in power. I mean, they could dig up the corpse of Pierre Trudeau, and he'd still get more things right than Harper.
Well that was historic, yet grim. Stayed up until 2:00 am for the last of the speeches and commentary and just feel wrung out and disheartened today. I don't think I ever quite believed it was really coming, and yet here it is.
