OMG! I'm in love with Kerry's legs :-) |
Queen1973 02.05.2011 04:37 |
Thanks for the You Tube link "Dangerland" great track heard its being released as Rock Mix single. Didnt like the intro in Royal Albert hall with the dancers etc. Brians introduction looked a bit unrehearsed. Rufus on drums, Concert looked full as i think there was talk that not many people were going. Ok liverpool tomorrow will post some footage on here when i get back. And does anyone know if Royal albert hall concert was on radio or beinging filmed for future release. cheers. |

You want to know the setlist? Why not just go and be surprised.... (or not) What is it with people wanting spoilers these days? |

It looks and sounds dreadful. Dancers ... ugh! KE is not a sex bomb: she has a face like a man's foot. What happened to Brian May, rock god? He used to be a gunslinger; now he's some sort of ragged showbiz luvvie. Still, each to his own. Not to my personal tastes but I'm sure it will please some. |
masterstroke_84 02.05.2011 08:14 |
Setlist: Complete Anthems (not in order)+ Love of my life (Brian taking 80% of the vocals), Somebody to love, Last horizon, Rock you and champions. 3 of 4 Queen songs were actually Freddie songs.. dedicated to the people who speak rubish about Brian being an "egocentric beast" |
masterstroke_84 02.05.2011 08:27 |
Dancers were used just for the intro.. no big deal.. it's not a "Motorhead" concert man.. relax. I don't understand the comment about Kerry not being a sex bomb... this nis not supposed to be a strippers show, is a music concert man, she is there to sing and she is great doing that. Period. And Brian.. well, according to the people who attended the gig, his perfomance was almost perfect, he rocked in moments who demanded rock treatment and played beatifully to the songs of the album. What else we can expect from him, I don't understand your point Holly. cheers. |

IMO she's not, and it's probably not a good idea for her to push that too much. Again, my opinion. Of course, she can do what she likes and others can get as horny as they want over her. The dancing was ridiculous in principle, and just bad dancing beyond that. And anybody who hasn't noticed that all the endless hanging around in the West End has shaped Brian's artistic instincts in ways that are both a little disconcerting and a little disappointing perhaps isn't really paying attention. Or perhaps many just like musical theatre, which is fine, but people who don't want their rock and roll watered down in this way (me) should certainly be allowed that perspective. |
john bodega 02.05.2011 13:02 |
If I ever got on a stage that had someone dancing on it (ie. not contributing to the music) I would bloody push them off. What the fuck has music become? Dancing is for the audience to do (at their own peril, admittedly). |
e-man 02.05.2011 13:03 |
being one of those who doesn't really bother with this project, I won't take a stand in this debate :) however, after reading these posts, seeing the clip, and getting an idea of the setlist, I will say this; it seems weird to feature so many Queen songs in the set if this tour is to promote Kerry Ellis the solo artist. Yes, Brian is equal on the billing and his name definitely sells a healthy amount of tickets - but nevertheless, there's just something which seems wrong about the whole thing. Is it to please the obvious large part of the audience who are Queen fans? If that is so - the premise for the whole tour is a bit weird. and yes - she does look great. talent AND looks is a rare combination |

She's clearly trying to be a sex bomb, just like she's trying to be an entertaining singer, so that invites responses on both fronts. |
masterstroke_84 02.05.2011 13:31 |
Dancers: Queen put dancers (or something like that) for FBG in the Jazz tour.. even Pink Floyd (post-waters era) used to have 3 girls dancing like strippers the whole show (yeah they were backing vocalists but you know what i'm talking about) Kerry: I still can not understand what is wrong with Kerry being dressed properly and having make up for a live perfomance.. doesn't matter if I like her or not.. do you have issues with the female genre?? haha I'm joking. And.. about Brian: Well.. As far I'm concerned.. Brian May is part of one of the 3 most influential "rock, art-rock, glam rock, pop" (choose one..) bands of all time.. Brian May is not only rock n roll, is not only "sleeping on the sidewalk".. he's been part of a band way more cheesy and camp (left alone the talent as musicians) than anyone (except a few other competitors)... and being a Queen fan, and you too Holly, that way of thinking about this colaboration.. is at least strange and out of place. 90% of the Queen material has more to do with "Anthems" (music, theatrics) than with just plain 4/4 RNR.. and you know it. In this tour, he's playing great music, varied music, with great arrangements (mostly made by himself, yes, the same person who arranged and wrote most of our favourite music), with a great band and a superb singer (no place for "taste" here.. she's superb like it or not). So, for me, this Brian May is the best we can get today, not the one playing a one off with the Foo, or with T. Hawkings band.. |

Not at all. It's just kind of apparent that wearing dresses and shoes that seem to be in pursuit of some kind of short and high records respectively are going to stimulate that particular kind of male interest and commentary. It's silly to pretend it's not there and feign puzzlement over why people might be talking about it, that's my only point. She's not being short changed by people talking about her body when she herself has made it a prominent part of her shows. |

I would rather see Brian working with Roger Taylor on a 40 year tour/concert or something than work on this. I can see why some may find this Anthems bit entertaining...I'm reserving judgement as I am not attending any of these shows. Being there live and getting into any groove/vibe that might be present is different than watching a youtube clip. |

I went to both performances & to be honest I enjoyed them both (evening show, more atmosphere) No, it was not "Queen" but we all knew what it was going to be like when we bought the tickets, so can't really complain about all the theatrics, can we. Without sounding negative, Brian's 63 years old, so lets be realistic, how much longer will he be doing this before he hangs up his guitar?? so personally, Try & enjoy every chance you get. I'm looking forward to the rest of the tour, will be nice to hear the songs without the backing Choir & Orchestra :-) |

I was at both shows on Sunday because a friend of mine had a spare ticket for the matinee and invited me. I met "A Word In Your Ear" and brians_wig and some other friends from Holland, Germany, Belgium and Hungary, it was a fun day and very, very enjoyable. Thank you guys for making it such a special trip for me. As to the show: we knew it was not supposed to be Queen show, so there is no need to complain that it was not a Queen show. When I booked my ticket in December, however, it was announced as "Anthems" - not a 3 hour charity show with some support acts. I really hate it when an orchestra is sitting on the stage but the music comes from the tape as happened with "Escala" who played live but the complete orchestra was from tape. I do not follow musical theater much, so I did not know this other guy who sang "You Never Walk Alone" in honour of his mother who has cancer - in Germany it's a football anthem and I felt like bringining out the scarf to wave:-) The choir and the orchestra were excellent. As to Kerry Ellis' costumes - yes it's all a matter of taste but I would not mind if a singer dresses when she sings. It was not "Burlesque" and when she sang "All that glitters can't be gold" in a glimmering red sequined bodice I had a feeling that the irony of that performance was totally lost on her :-) But the dresses she wore later in the show were even worse. so I can only assume that Mrs. Ellis has no style but I cannot say I care much. She has a huge, huge voice and if she learns some fine tuning instead of just belting out her songs, she might become a real great singer. Brin May, on the other side, looked very out of place imo. On the QPR tours he was always the big star of the show and was very present and dominating the moment he entered the stage. In the RAH he looked like a member of the band who gets a special spot on the stage because he is such a deserving veteran. It was only during his guitar solo that his genius showed - much to the relief of the Queen fans who cheered him for that. In the matinee nobody sang during LOML which was embarrassing for Brian, so we did our best to make it better for him in the evening show :-) Oh - and Rufus Taylor was really, really good. He is a great drummer imo. |

Ok went to liverpool last night and loved it Brian was amazing and kerrys woice was perfect, her customes were dazzling but the stage was like id come to see a queen tribute act........The hall was full the support act was ok if you liked blues. As i said the set list from the show. I now see someone has put a set list from london, well it was the same as Part2, except one extra track at the end. Brian looked to the group and then started to play Tie your mother down, the audience (who were mostly over 50) all got on there feet, it was like being at a Queen concert amazing end to the show, i recorded two tracks, Last horizon and We will rock you. As you can see the tour is more rock than opera. Sorry for the poor sound etc filmed it on my black berry. It was good to see Brian(my eyes were on him for most the show), great hes still touring. I looked at my Brian may tickets from his earlier tours and it made me think OMG 1993 its nearly 20 years since he first toured solo. The concerts then in 1993 he had power moved around sang and rocked the whole concert. But now you can see, (even a few years after Paul rodgers and Queen tour) that hes gettin older............so while hes still playing accept the fact hes a great guitarist and keeps entertaining. So as Roger says Old men lay down........................................................Cheers Brian. |

YourValentine wrote: She has a huge, huge voice and if she learns some fine tuning instead of just belting out her songs, she might become a real great singer. ======================= She's certainly capable of expressing emotion and achieving vocal nuance, but in my observation musical theatre people in expanded genres never really get all that far past the 'big note' stuff as their primary fall back. Adam Lambert is another example. It becomes less dazzling over time and/or the length of an entire album.

I was there at the 4pm show. I wasn't too sure what to expect from it really, any oppertunity to see Brian May is worth it, but I weren't sure about the whole idea of the concert...the crowd was respectable but it was certainly a 'musical' type audience, very reluctant to let themselves go...only really got going for Brighton Rock and from WWRY onwards. Anyway I think I've changed my mind now and jumped off the fence.Kerry has a hell of a voice, in a live setting her voice is very powerful and she got alot of very high notes...I suppose some people won't like the 'muscial' belt she does do, but she clearly has a great voice there. Brian and indeed the whole lot of them seemed to be enjoying the occasion of it. Besides, how many more times will we be able to see Brian do solo's and work his magic....he may have another few tours left in him but nothing on a big scale I dare say. Highlights for me: 1: Brian's opening clothes, what a throwback to the 70s! 2: Somebody to love vocal improv...Kerry did a superb job with that and sounded amazing. 3: Last Horzion/Brighton Rock...I don't really need to say anymore. 4: Diamonds are forever, I think it works really well in this set-up. 5: WWRY/WATC combo, what a superb way to get the crowd going and to be honest it was a touch unexpected. |
