There are more than a few knowledgeable people who think that he's the one.
DT has already announced their European tour dates for this year.
If he is the one.............what do you think?
Would appreciate insightful comments.
Personally..........he won't command the stage as MP, but as long as they write something as inspiring as Six Degrees or Octavarium, instead of the depressing last two LPs, whoever they put behind the skins, it will work (I hope)
Systematic Chaos was awful... most of the 'songs' were technical exercises with songs woven into them. There were maybe 2 or 3 listenable tracks.
I almost turned in my badge after hearing that, but thankfully they made a complete 180 with Black Clouds. I actually quite liked the album. The Count of Tuscany may well be the best thing they've ever written.
Whoever the new drummer is, I just hope they leave the egos and scale exercises at the door and stick to writing quality compositions, like on Images And Words, Scenes, Six Degrees disc 2 and Octavarium... this is when they're at their best. As much as I'm looking forward to their (hopefully) new creative direction, personally I think this will be their last album. Mike Portnoy was the soul of the band, and I don't think anyone can fill his shoes.
