Fairly good piece at QOL where Greg describes his daily chores in the Queen household. I did however baulk at his choice of Jazz as his favourite LP; fine, everyone has their own subjective view, and the songs are good, but he cites that 'it sounds great'. I think the general consensus amongst fans with some musical knowledge or sonic appreciation is that Jazz has always been cited as one of the band's worst sounding albums - very untypical and un-natural drum sounds spoil the album form a listening point of view for many.
Have to agree with CMS. While there are some good songs on there, it's far from my favorite...I have to say the drums sound really flat. Being a drummer myself, I've always liked the drum sound that was recorded on ADATR...just real big, huge John Bonham type sound. I really feel that ADATR captures the true essence of what Queen was inside of a studio without a whole lot of trickery. They had a bit of that with Opera, and even SHA if you want, but the Jazz album just doesn't cut the mustard for me, coming from a musicianship standpoint. I will give the 2011 remasters a listen when it comes out, as I was rather impressed with the treatment that they did with the first two records, which again on the debut album, I felt that the whole album sounded like it was recorded out of a tin can before the remasters came along. Who knows...
