Hello, I started a version of this topic in the Serious Discussion part of the forums and it was suggested that I make my request here, so... Would anyone be able to post a copy of the unreleased BASIC Bootlegs album, please? I know it's been posted in the past and I'd be deeply appreciative if someone would be so kind as to share it again. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to post my copy of Trent Reznor's remix of Tie Your Mother Down, just let me know. Thank you! Dave3 |

Okay, for your enjoyment here are the unreleased Trent Reznor remixes of Stone Cold Crazy and Tie Your Mother Down. These are both sourced from a cassette I received in the nineties though they sound pretty good all things considered. If anyone wants it I can post a copy of the Stone Cold Crazy remix sourced from an official CD. Just let me know if anyone is interested. Dave3 |

Thanks - haven't ever heard the TYMD by Trent... |

Thanks, your TYMD version have better bitrate :) Can you upload image (photo or scan of cover) of your cassette? I don't have Basic Bootlegs but I looking for it too. |

Hey ole, The tape I have was traded by NIN fans and isn't an official promo or anything. The story, at least as I heard it, is that it's copied from a cassette Trent Reznor gave someone to check out the mixes he'd done. |

I just mentioned this in the other topic but... all of the tracks from the BASIC Bootlegs album are on the Snow Producciones BASIC Remixes collections. Anyone have those? They look pretty incredible. How hard are they to get? Is Snow Producciones pretty cool about his collections? |

Reznor's Stone Cold Crazy was released in a Hollywood Records US promo CD5. As for the compilation by Snow Prods, it won't surprise me if they " " "remastered" " " the low-bitrate mp3s posted here some years ago. They usually produce CRAP - not to mention they get stuff from free and then sell it (even official stuff). |

Bad quality of live video releases, fakes in demo collections etc. On Basic Remixes, there's probably just low-quality copies (in much worse quality after 'remastering'), some of other 1991 mixes and lots of fan-mixes. |

Thanks guys, I'll take Snow Productions with a grain of salt. That said, Wilki or Ole, do either of you have the low-bitrate version that was posted a while back? Would you be able to share a copy with me? We can discuss this privately if you'd prefer. |

I talked to one guy who downloaded it, but he said that these mp3s is somewhere on one of his 100 DVDs. So it's impossible to find it soon. Another guy even didn't replied me. But searching of users who downloaded it is still only way to find any trace of BASIC Bootlegs. |

Sorry Ole, I guess I missed it when you said you didn't have it. Well, let's hope someone comes through for us. |

Just wanted to post a quick update regarding the versions of Stone Cold Crazy and Tie Your Mother Down that I previously posted. I corrected the pitch on both of them and have re-uploaded them, along with the Trent version of Stone Cold Crazy issued on the SCC promo CD all in FLAC and V0 MP3 format for download. Feel free to grab them via the links provided below. In my opinion these sound a lot better than the versions I'd previously posted. Queen - NIN Remixes FLAC link V0 MP3 link |

According to Discogs.com: Extremely rare cdr pressed up in 1999 at Hollywood Records, possibly as a one-off. Originally this CD was scheduled to be released in early 1992 on the Hollywood Basic label which covered rap and hip hop. The idea was to have rock and rap producers remix classic Queen songs, in some cases putting raps over them. For whatever reason this release was shelved. Four of these mixes were commercially released on other formats; six of these mixes (tracks 2,3,4,6,8,10) only appear on this cdr. None of the remixes were given mix names. link link |

Got a copy of the album and I'll have to post it. Ended up getting it from Snow. Interestingly enough, while some of the tracks on his comps may be transcodes from mp3s, these don't seem to be. That's not to say they look like properly mastered tracks, but looking at their spectral data they look like they may have been burnt to CD from an unmastered/not-final worktape. Some of the tracks are clean too which brings up some interesting questions. Here is a slightly corrected track list: 01 We Will Rock You (Ruined by Rick Rubin) Same as the released version 02 Don't Try Suicide (Grandmaster Muggs Remix) I have no idea who is rapping on this but they have a similar flow to the members of Cypress Hill, Muggs' group. Maybe Muggs himself is rapping. This is more like an original track that samples Don't Try Suicide than a traditional remix. 03 Another One Bites The Dust (Chyskillz Remix feat. Ice Cube, Hi-C & Chyskillz) Chyskillz was a producer and rapper with the early nineties rap group Onyx. Like Don't Try Suicide, this is less a remix and more an original track, as the only portion of the original that seems to be used here is the bass line. This is one of the tracks that is presented as a clean edit. 04 Under Pressure (Mr. Mixx Remix) Mr. Mixx was a DJ for the 2 Live Crew and this track definitely sounds like an early nineties, Miami party/rave track. 05 We Are The Champions (Ruined by Rick Rubin) Same as the released version 06 Fat Bottomed Girls (Organized Konfusion Remix) As pointed out previously, Freddie's vocals are from an unused alternate take of the song. I'm assuming Organized Konfusion produced this remix as they self-produced all their music around this time in their careers. 07 Dragon Attack (Jack Benson Remix feat. R.A.K.) I can't find any information about who R.A.K. is but Jack Benson was a producer and engineer in the early nineties. His career, at least in that field, seems to have ended there, at least based off the information available at discogs. 08 Another One Bites The Dust (Phase 5 Dusted B-Boy Version feat. Raw Fusion) Despite what the discogs track list says, Dave "Rave" Ogilvie probably isn't involved with this track in any way. Rather, this is just an edit of the track that appeared on the BASIC beats sampler. Money B's rap has been edited to remove any obscenities and the overall track is around four minutes long. 09 Stone Cold Crazy (Re-Produced by Trent Reznor) Same as the version from the promo CD. 10 Dragon Attack (Dave "Rave" Ogilvie Instrumental Remix) This is the odd track out as it's a remix not in the sense of adding anything to the track but simply a literal remix of the multitracks so it doesn't sound all that different from the released version. This is ALMOST the instrumental of the original track, but it's clearly not the same mixdown. Regarding whether these tracks are sourced from the official Hollywood Records CD-R or not, we would only be able to verify if we had the original CD to compare against, though the tracks here, while not all of them fill the full frequency range of a CD, all have empty background noise data which would have been the first thing to go if these were mp3 sourced tracks. They're clearly legit recordings, even if it's not 100% clear as to where they're sourced from. The only track with questionable source data is that Dragon Attack instrumental as it doesn't seem to have that background noise data, but who knows if it really would have made the album anyway. Who knows if the track list on that promo was even for the final album. The album would have been just 40 minutes with those ten tracks and there were many more remixes produced, so unless there was discussion of a second volume it seems a little odd to me. As for posting it, I paid for this stuff from Snow so technically speaking I'd be bootlegging a bootlegger, although since the quality is rather good I'm feeling a little convoluted about doing so. I might just post the missing tracks or something, although there would still be three discs worth of stuff that he has that I wouldn't have posted. That said, anyone out there still have the original low-bitrate mp3s that were posted here a while ago that we could compare against? That could answer a lot of questions. |
