“We aimed for the top slot and we were not going to be satisfied with anything less.” Freddie Mercury This week sees Queen's first five albums re-released with bonus tracks across Europe, South America and Asia. Order Queen's first five albums through Amazon, HMV , Play.com and iTunes. One of the most exciting and influential back catalogues of all time. Recorded in the maelstrom of the early 1970’s London music scene Queen created a groundbreaking and unique soundtrack that remains globally influential today. Theatrical, imaginative, diverse, melodic and unpredictable they had a sound and a look all of their own. Sitting alongside their contemporaries like Led Zep and David Bowie, Queen set the standard for British rock in the 1970’s and became one of the most thrilling, glamorous and downright rock n roll bands of all time, directly influencing a contemporary roll call of artists from Foo Fighters & Axl Rose to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. “Queen”, “Queen II”, “Sheer Heart Attack”, “A Night At The Opera” and “A Day At The Races” have been specially re-mastered and each is being released as a standard CD as well as a deluxe 2 disc set which will feature new bonus content. Each deluxe album has also been released on iTunes featuring bonus tracks plus additional sleeve notes, unseen pictures and videos. From the pure raw rock of “Queen” through to the majestic anthems on “A Day At The Races”, the first five albums highlight the diverse talent, musical ambition and already global success of a band made up of some of the best songwriters, musicians and performers of all time. Also released this week is Deep Cuts: Vol. 1 (1973-1976). Digging deeper into the Queen catalogue Deep Cuts is a bespoke collection of hidden gems from the band's first five albums. The International release dates of Queen's first five albums and Deep Cuts are as follows: ARGENTINA - Tuesday 15th March AUSTRIA - Friday 18th March AUSTRALIA - Saturday 19th March BELGUIM - Friday 18th March BRAZIL - Tuesday 15th March CZECH REPUBLIC - Monday 14th March FRANCE - Monday 14th March GERMANY - Friday 18th March HONG KONG - Monday 14th March IRELAND - Friday 18th March ITALY - Friday 18th March JAPAN - Thursday 17th March KOREA - Tuesday 15th & Thursday 17th MEXICO - Tuesday 15th March NETHERLANDS - Friday 18th March NEW ZEALAND - Monday 14th March SERBIA - Monday 14th March SOUTH AFRICA - Friday 18th March SPAIN - Tuesday 15th March SWEDEN - Wednesday 16th March SWITZERLAND - Friday 18th March TAIWAN - Friday 18th March UK - Monday 14th March USA - Tuesday 17th May |

I don't know about the 18th - they had the re-issues in HMV in Limerick yesterday. They had the double disc editions of all five except Queen 1. They were €13.99 for the single and €16.99 for the double. I picked up each one, looked at them and then put them back. It's sad when you think how excited we used to be when we'd go into the record shop looking for a new Queen album. Yours in reason, The Voice. |

They're not going to be released in Canada. So sad! (Starting a marketing campaign by treating Canada like the 51st American state is not great business. It generally REALLY annoys us.) Edit: Just left this comment on the Press Release at QOL: Is this organization aware that Canada is it's very own country with borders and everything? Canada is constantly being rolled in with the USA when it comes to QPL, and it makes you look dumb and lazy. May seem petulant, but fellow Canucks will understand. ;) |

No, I really have no idea what you're talking about ............. ;) |

It's like an international disease. The other day I saw a People magazine article on Prince William and Kate Middleton's announced trip to Canada headlined "Prince William & Kate Middleton: Coming To North America!". |

Amazon.ca (Canada) has my order set to deliver March 22. (Import) Screw Hollywood records . May ??? are you kidding me? |
Back2TheLight 15.03.2011 03:22 |
Yeah it's fairly messed up that we in the States dont get to see anything until May sometime, and nothing for Canada... |
GratefulFan 15.03.2011 09:14 |
It would be slightly less annoying if Canada actually weren't getting the releases. We are, we're just supposed to understand that Canada = USA. Canada being the country that has kept Greatest Hits on it's Hard Rock charts every week without fail since the inception of the chart 15 or 20 years ago. It's like how the Germans have to look up the release dates for France to know when they're going to be landing on the store shelves in Berlin. Not. |
Groucho Marx 15.03.2011 14:20 |
The earlier news item stated release dates for "US & North America" which of course includes Canada. North America is the name of the continent for those of you who weren't aware. Still, I don't know why they couldn't just say US & Canada or just North America. And anybody can order the imports on Amazon (although it's sometimes cheaper to order straight from amazon.co.uk). Hollywood probably wasn't planning on releasing the re-issues here until the last minute. That seems to account for the later date and the fact that it wasn't announced until recently. |

I recently made a purchase from link and when my parcel arrived, the envelope read: Mr J Gilchrist (my address) Glasgow England G3 Absolutely shocking. |
Wiley 15.03.2011 16:53 |
I have a similar problem with people who think Mexico is in South America when, geographycally, most of the mexican surface is part of North America. The south eastern part of Mexico can be considered a part of Central America but certainly NOT SOUTH AMERICA! hehe :) |
Strident 15.03.2011 17:41 |
Hah! You guys should try living in South Africa a while, being lumped in with the rest of the "dark continent." It may be annoying to lumped in with the USA, but at least it's not the damn Congo or Zimbabwe... |
Strident 15.03.2011 17:43 |
That being said, we're on the release list, so I suppose I'll savor the moment... :p |

Thistleboy, Wow! Rockaway's lucky their shop is still standing! Calling a Scot an Englishman is like calling a Canadian a Yankee. Haven't they seen Braveheart? :) |

The south eastern part of Mexico can be considered a part of Central America but certainly NOT SOUTH AMERICA! hehe :) ============================ And of course Central America is North America on a political map. So we now have release dates for the USA, Mexico and North America. Crystal clear. Speaking of South America, I learned with some surprise a number of years ago that they really hate and take offense at the American (US) usurping of the word 'America' and 'American' They think it should belong equally to all North and South Americans and be equally definitive of all it's citizens. It's not something I've been able to get upset about, and given that unexpected perspective I really did try, but no luck. |

Groucho Marx wrote: North America is the name of the continent for those of you who weren't aware. ==================== If that's a reference to my People article story, I think you just perhaps had to be there. There is zero chance the article would have been titled that way if they were going to the US rather than, or even in addition to, Canada. There were a slew of comments to that effect, though I'll grant they were likely from a bunch of sulking Canadians. Announcing release dates for 'USA and North America' is almost insulting to Americans. It's like QPL is not quite confident Americans will know they are in fact in North America. |

If this was prison, they'd be our bitch". |

just wanted to ask about that SSOR instrumental? is that for real? cos the "Freddie count-in, and end comments" appear added.... just wonder if this was a genuine find or a bit of QPL "frankensteining"? |

Now in fairness I haven't heard any of these remastered albums yet so I'm not going to make too much of a song and dance over them as such. However, these latest re-releases are in the title of a song absent from 'Innuendo' a major 'Lost Opportunity'. These albums could and should have been meticulously restored and then released as Hybrid SACD's, serving two main purposes: 1) Those owning a player with SACD playback may have had access to a blistering audiophile performance revealing every nuance and tone on the original master tapes. The technology and the personnel are there as proved by Foreigner with their debut album SACD release by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. 2) Those not owning an SACD playback capable player could have still benefitted as the Hybrid SACD are playable though standard CD players and could have sounded better. About the only thing these rerelases have with the above points is the shape of the case. Pink Floyd did the same thing apparently, all their back catalogue was scheduled for the Hybrid SACD release and a 'political' decision was made with only 'Dark Side of the Moon' making it and the others shelved. Genesis fans did get a bit further with all their studio work being released but the Live box set had the plug pulled at the last moment. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! A lost opportunity indeed |

My wife has pre-ordered the first four albums from AmazonUK for my birthday, which is later this month, but I just got an email that they won't ship them now until some time in April, so Us orders are being held even if you order them from UK vendors? Oh well, I'll just be happy to be able to get them at all. Can't wait to hear if they are superior to the Hollywood releases. |

well had my first listen to 'Queen' remaster. Stunning is all I can say. |

Just picked up several of these at the HMV at Heathrow. I've listened to Deep Cuts twice now - really great! Loved the sleeve notes too. So glad I got these now and don't have to wait till May. Lucky. |
queenUSA 25.03.2011 23:03 |
Deep Cuts is a real gift. Easily I would pay 2x the asking price. The sleeve notes encourage that you put aside the radio Queen you know and take a listen to the REAL Queen, the early works hand selected by the band before anyone touched them or tried to fashion them or commercialize. Really enjoyed every track! Highly recommend. |
