Like most Magic Tour versions, this is a great version overall. However, this version is a "wild card," because at 4:11, Freddie NAILS the B4 (on "feet"). It's the only time he did this correctly!
I don't know if this is the best version on the tour (I think Vienna and Knebworth edge it out), but damn, it's great!

Which makes it that much more special. Good catch.
Hey Bob. What's your opinion on the Bo Rhap performance? I think it's also "special" because he sings the whole first verse extremely close to the record version (he hits the Bb4s in the 1st verse and goes down, hits the "this time tomorrow" line like the record, and hits the "carry on").
I agree: I've never heard any other version where he aces the record phrasing that accurately. Sure, I've heard versions on the tour with his voice in a more fresh shape (Brussels, Leiden, Cologne, etc --that have that "record phrasing"), and Live Aid's is also extremely well sung/phrased. But I think Frejus edges them out because of the "tomorrow" and "carry on" lines.
If only we had a better recording (the one available isn't that bad--but I hate how the speed fluctuates during most of the songs), we can really appreciate the gig!
My last question (sorry I'm ranting and hijacking the thread), is that why did Freddie started singing Bo Rhap more close to studio's phrasing on this tour? I mean we've heard all the available versions from the other tours (Freddie would either undersing the verses, oversing the verses, etc), but from Live Aid onwards, he would start singing the 1st verse closer to the record version. I've never been able to figure this out. My guess is that he became a better singer as he aged.
One more post :)
This is a 50 sec sample (mp3) of Frejus' Bo Rhap (the whole first verse). The original track ran 35 cents slow so I fixed the tempo and pitch. Unfortunately, the tape's a bit unstable, so the pitch fluctuates slightly (though most of the sample is in the proper key).
I'm doing this just to show people! Forgive me!

Did anyone pick up the new bootleg release of the Frejus show ?
The "BONSOIR MAGIC IN FREJUS 2CDR.
(Breakdown)"
???

I haven't seen that release yet. I'm also curious about the other alternative source listed (has average quality but hissy). For now, we just have the original source!
