In the early 80's, Freddie Mercury (the late lead singer of Queen) recorded 3 songs with Michael. Michael and Mercury were fairly good friends. According to Queen drummer Roger Taylor, it was Michael who suggested they release “Another one Bites the Dust” as a single. It was the band’s biggest hit in the U.S. Anyway, Freddie stopped by Michael’s house to work on a few songs. They were “Victory”, “State of Shock” and “there must Be More to Life than This”. the demos were ran through a few times but sadly left unfinished as both men had their own tours/albums to work on. Ever since, fans of both have been wondering how the songs came out, if they’d ever get the chance to hear them. A few years back, a box set of virtually every Mercury track recorded was released and fans had hoped the duets with Michael would be included. They were not. as yet, they have not been officially released anywhere in the world. As some of you may know, “State of Shock” was released but with Mick Jaggar instead of Mercury. “…More to Life than This” ended up as a Freddie only track on his album “mr. bad Guy”. In an interview with a Belgian magazine Roger Tayler says “We are now working on some never-before-released songs that Freddy made with Michael in the early 80's. I’m not allowed to say too much about it but they sound incredible!”. sources: Legendary MJ, Knack Focus link |

Can't stand Michael Jackson.....It would be another black eye for the post Mercury era IMO. Trying too take advantage of jackson's death and doing anything to get back on the charts........The only good thing of course is if the songs are hits it would gain Queen a lot of new fans......Which is a good thing, but i still can't stand Michael Jackson. |

I think this is good news and I would expect that this could be released as part of the bonus tracks for albums such as Hot Space and the Works. |

They'd make a great single release and they might even form part of the "Forever Queen" album.... The band ARE in the studio at the moment recording.... |

I mean - who can forbid him to talk about these things, if it's for a Queen-project ? Things might be different when it's for a MJ-project and he is only the "hired drummer".... |

The next Michael Jackson album will be a duets-album. Apparently Barry Gibb has also confirmed he's working on it. So I guess that whatever track Roger & Brian are involved with will be for that project - and ofcourse not a Queenproject. |
mike hunt 13.03.2011 11:43 |
not a queen project, but freddie's song is still his song, i guess you could say it's a michael Jackson + Queen song. If the songs are successful Queen still get credit for it as much as michael. Ok, i have to admit i'm curious at what brian and roger added to those songs, and how they made michael's and freddie's voices blend together the way the demo version didn't. If only one reason why I hope these songs are released is to put mick jagger to shame. Freddie will kick hiss versions ass. |

My first thoughts are "Great! Any new music with Freddie's vocals would be more than welcome!" However I don't really like State of Shock as a song. It's pretty naff. And TMBMTLTT is great the way it is. I'm open to them rocking it up a bit but I'm worried that if it's for a Micheal Jackson duets album then it'll lean towards showcasing Micheal rather than being a duet or leaning towards Freddie. In short I'd rather it sounded more like Freddie's music than Micheal's which | can take or leave. Can't stand some of that shamone shite. |

FYI: "VICTORY" was recorded IN FULL with the entire Queen Band... this is great news since that track has not seen the light of day. AND i think someone in the MJ camp released the other two demos during the hub bub/bruhaha about the soon to be released FREDDIE MERCURY BOXED SET. (possibly to avoid legal b.s.) at least, that's where I got my copies from... Any ideas concerning the origins of those leaked tracks? (PS: for the naysayers... a big STFU... MJ WAS a great creative force... it's only when he started chasing that 2000' era pop that things went wrong [musically]) |

Demos aren't supposed to sound good - they're musical equivilents of rough drafts and thumbnail sketches. They're for working out lyrics, developing melodies, finding comfortable phrasing. Few singers are going to give full on, beautifully and smoothly delivered vocals for something they know will eventually get tossed out and replaced with a polished final vocal. |
Queen4ever13 26.08.2011 15:03 |
Was it a rumor or fact that supposedly Michael Jackson got mad at Freddie for doing coke at his home and didn't want to continue working with him? First of all how would he know unless he had a camera watching him, I'm sure he wouldn't have done it out in the open and I really don't buy that story anyhow. |
Queen4ever13 26.08.2011 15:31 |
I honestly feel that Michael Jackson copied Freddie's style from day one and no one seems to pick up on this. Freddie was the first one to wear the glove on one hand way back in the early 70's. Also in Freddie's 1985 Living On My Own, he sings at the end I'm bad several times and that was pre Michael Jackson 1987 I'm Bad. So Michael Jackson wasn't such an original. |
Sebastian 26.08.2011 17:25 |
Loads of people have used gloves long before FM or MJ. MJ was already thinking about titling his post-Thriller album 'Bad' since around 1983. In fact, he did tell Freddie about that. Again, the word and the melodic phrase are both so common that loads of people may have been able to do the same long before either Freddie or Michael. Original doesn't mean never-done-before, as 99.99% of things will invariably have proto-ideas elsewhere. Original is more closely related to distinctive and, in that matter, both Freddie and Michael were original, authentic - you heard them singing the first note and you instantly recognised them. Same for their songwriting talents, etc. |
