Went to exhibition on Sat, and thought I'd just round up what live stuff is there.
The earliest footage appears to be the November Rainbow show. The mix or this is very dry, and without overdubs, nothing like the release. I think I can confidently say that Freddie's lead vocals were heavily overdubbed on the official release!
Then there is some Japan '75 footage. This was the usual stuff we've all seen. There was some interesting stuff also labelled Japan '75 but unfortunately without sound? I'll upload this to YouTube when I get home (unless its already been done). It's what was incorrectly labelled Preston '73, but there is loads more of it.
Hammersmith '75. Not really a lot to say on that
Hyde park. Bo Rap, Ogre Battle, same mix as before with mic drop outs etc.
Earls Court. Full show, same mix as before but stereo.
Some Houston stuff scattered around, appears not to have been remixed.
There is also a short documentary on each album containing live snippets. On these, Hyde Park has been remixed and sounds wonderful, no mic drop outs on BR. Earls Court sounds as it does on the snippet of '39 on Amazon. Not sure if this has been remixed or just had the stereo mix messed around with? But again it sounded great.
Could Gary or Greg confirm if EC has had a remix?
The earliest footage I saw was Smile at the RAH...a longer snippet than previously, but in even worse quality - looks like it was downloaded off Youtube
Amazing footage. So there IS a (more) complete version of the last Budokan show in the archives ?
The rumours were that "somewhere" the complete video recording still exists, but I have never seen any proof.
This also solves the "Preston 73" mystery, it's Japan 75 :-)
Now the main question is - how do we convince Queen Productions that we want a DVD ? :-)
Unfortunately, you can never convince them. They do what they want and they never listen to us, Queen fans. But maybe someone can? The footage seems to be in great quality and is great by other standards!

Did you record part of the rainbow show?

A rough live mix is always going to sound far worse than a properly mixed master. There's a lot of reverb on the vocals on Live At The Rainbow and no doubt plenty of compression, which is always going to make vocals sound better. I have no doubt properly mixed versions of the raw multitracks would sound great.
Now I'm Here from the Rainbow, which is present on the GVH1 DVD, sounds like the real thing to me. If the rest of the concert can be transformed to equal quality, you will have a top-notch live experience by Queen.
No info was given as to which Japan show it was, the only information was that the laptop contained the full rainbow show, and Japan '75 footage. Like I said, the stuff I uploaded had no sound, just SHA tracks playing over the top. Maybe the audio doesn't exist?
I did record some of the Rainbow show, FOTW and the others not on the official release. Unfortunately my phone is now refusing to play the video for some reason.
Regarding vocal overdubs, I'm sure a good remix would make Freddies vocal sound a lot better, but the simple fact is that he is really struggling at this show. I always thought it was obvious that the official release was full of them, and watching the version at the exhibition has confirmed what I first though.

When your phone works please try and upload the Rainbow footage not on the official release...especially Seven Seas of Rhye.
