"Four-part documentary chronicling the rise to fame of the iconic British
rock band, Queen. The title features interviews from musicologists and
journalists, plus unique insights from original members such as Brian
May, Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury." More info
Probably horrible like the other unauthorized drivle that's out there though....
Got it today! I think i have to warn you people for this release as it's quite like what i expected it to be. A boring set of album reviews spread over 4 dvd's, which when i ordered it seemed very impressive. Well it's not.
The book is ok, with a few rare-ish photo's, a bio and discography with half-ass reviews of all the individual tracks up to Return of the Champions.
The dvd's each are approximately 30 minutes in length, which seems odd. why not release 2 dvd's or perhaps just one?I guess it's much more appealing to have 4 discs than just 1.
The first disc starts off moderately interesting with a few snippets from 80's interviews with the band and the unveiling of the Freddie monument in Feltham. It's advertised as a set of interviews with the band, but all you get is a promotional intro for the whole set which clocks just over 2:30 mins. Every disc starts with the same Two and a half minutes which of course is a blatant rip-off. Between the interviews you see footage of the band, which are repeated over he course of the 4 dvd's + the pictures from the book.
The rest is a collection of interviews which were already released in 2007, titled "Queen - Rock Case Studies", the title pops up on the dvd. The interviewees:
Mark Blake, journalist (MOJO) and author of "Is This The Real Life? The Untold Story Of Queen" (which i think IS a great book)
Les Davidson,, studio guitarist and producer. He also plays a few riffs of Queen here and there, nothing special.
Malcolm Dome, journalist (Kerrang, Classic Rock)
Jerry Ewing, Queenfan, journalist (Progrock)
Jeff Griffin, BBCproducer
Conclusion:
It's basically Queen - Under Review, but worse with a decent book. :D
