I was just watching the Wembley '86 show, and was suddenly amazed at just how annoying I found the RnR medleys they used to do - Tutti Frutti, Hello Mary Lou etc etc. They may have been fun the first time around, but now it just annoys me that they're there. Does anyone else feel the same? If so, what do yoy reckon they could have replaced them with? I'm not just talking the magic tour here, so to get the ball rolling, I'd say that in the 70s, instead of Lucille, Jailhouse Rock etc, they could have thrown in You & I, Nevermore or Dear Friends. In 1982 it could have been Las Palabras, in '84 Keep Passing The Open Windows and, during the magic tour, Princes Of The Universe or Don't Lose Your Head. Well, maybe not quite those tracks in particular, buy you get the idea! Any thoughts?
The funniest one was at Montreal during Jailhouse Rock, Freddie got frustrated with the unresponsive crowd
Move it ya fuckers!!!!!!! Only Freddie could get away with that

Good question. Don;t think anyone's brought up this before. Wade through the trash and eventually something interesting will appear on Teen .. I mean Quenzone.
I never listen much to the RnR medleys. I remember being blown away when I heard them do Jailhouse Rock for the first time, and Big Spender was a hoot at first. But as time passed I too wished they had concentrated on their own stuf. There's so many good songs they never performed live -- well, I guess we all get a little greedy. Of course they did it for the benefit of audience members who were maybe not too familiar with the Queen catalogue. Later, like at Wembley, it was an acoustic break and a natural pause in the middle of the show, which allowed them to build to a climax again. I'm a bit sorry they dropped Spread our Wings, which is great live. Rock It, KYA, Dreamers Ball and If You Can't Beat Them were great live so it was a shame they got dropped. It's Late was never great live, but always interesting. But I'd most have liked to have heard Sleeping on the Sidewalk live. Great track, and well-suited to a live performance.

I have to agree. I've always disliked the RnR medleys. In fact, I've always disliked when Queen performed any covers live. Like you said, there was SO MUCH material that they could have played so it's beyond me why they always had to stick in Jailhouse Rock or some oldies tune...and why ever open with Jailhouse Rock especially when they were at their North American height.
Dreamer's Ball worked really well live but I agree that It's Late never really sound great live. Maybe if they would have kept it during the Crazy Tour Freddie would have been able to hit some of those higher notes but for some reason, they dropped it.
Others songs that I've always thought never worked live were Flick of the Wrist, The Prophet's Song, Bicycle Race, and Who Wants to Live Forever.
Earl's Court 1977 Rock'n Roll medley is fun to watch. It has some much energy within.
But I agree that they should have replaced those medleys with songs never performed live.
For example My Fairy King,The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, Drowse, Sleeping on the Sidewalk (with Freddie's vocals) and many other in seventies and perhaps Dancer, Cool Cat, Man on the Prowl, One Year of Love and Gimme the Prize in eighties.
Funnily enough, I love the medleys they did in the 70's, but the Magic Tour stuff just annoys the hell out of me.
I can't stand the songs anyway, so maybe that doesn't help.
Like the poster above me, I enjoy their 70's medleys but despise the one from the Magic Tour.
In my book, what doesn't help either is the fact that they played them as an acoustic set and it seemed to go for hours.
Tutti Frutti was fun but the others songs were really unnecessary.
Big Spender, Stupid Cupid, Be Bop a lula, Jailhouse Rock... that one was fun - like Hammy '75. Little teases here and there and the songs were widely known.
yeah, sorry to disagree with you but I actually enjoy their medleys. I put their cover songs from Wembley '86 on my own CD of their work, and their medleys from the 70's are about the only way I like to hear Bicycle, March of the Black Queen, Seven Seas of Rye.

Of course they could've done My Fairy King and Master Stroke, maybe in a medley with March of the Black Queen and The rite of Spring.
