Don't know if this has been shared before, but it's a quite nice audience recording so I hope someone didn't have this yet... Quality isn't the best, quite a bit of hiss. Still worth it for one of the few live performances of Why Don't We Try Again. I've also got the Rome show from a couple of days earlier somewhere. I recorded this from a tape I got in a trade 10+ years ago, so I haven't got a clue what the original lineage was.
Tracklist:
Only Make Believe
On My Way Up
Driven By You
Why Don't We Try Again
Tie Your Mother Down
Hammer To Fall
Also includes a 20 minute interview with Brian, recorded in May 1998 for the Dutch TV station The Music Factory.
thank you very much!
do you know if hammer to fall from this share is recorded from audience or taken from the brian may cd red special japanese tour mini album?
Thanks a lot Pim for sharing this one in FLAC format.
As far as I know this recording was only shared in MP3-format before !
So another flac-gap is filled in :)

you were wrong, I confirm that this version of hammer to fall is taken from the mentioned cd!
I think that all these files are mp3 sourced, can anyone check this?
Uhmm... The Red Special CD was an official recording. This is an audience recording. Not the same thing. Yes, On My Way Up and Hammer To Fall from this show were released on Red Special - but this recording features the original audience recording, I did not edit in the Red Special versions.
As I said - as far as I can remember I recorded this from a tape I got in a trade, so unless the original taper first converted it to MP3 before recording it on the tape I got from him I think you're making a mistake...?
It looks lossless to me. There's a little something around 18.5 kHz, but nothing to be alarmed about. It definitely isn't mp3-sourced. Thanks for the share, Pim !

Yes, surely On My Way Up is audience recording but Hammer To Fall sounds exactly like the official cd...
anyway thank you for the beautiful share...

You must be listening to a different Red Special than I am. The original Red Special is excellent quality, while this audience recording is good at best. It's the same song, but there's a huge difference in quality. I DO know that Mr Scully lists a version of this on his website which DOES have the version of Hammer... edited in from Red Special - but this is not the version I shared here.

can I post here both the versions so anyone can compare them?
I'm sure of what I say
have you compared both versions?
the HTF shared here has a lower volume (maybe the same frequency cut of the other tracks) but sounds identical than the one on official cd, same instruments sound and level
the HTF shared sounds much better the other audience tracks of the concerts, the brian voice is more clear
your audience version start at the same identical point than the official...
Can someone please send me this official track? I'd like to chime in on this one, but I'd ideally like to have the material to do the comparison with.. :-)
the debate is that, in my opinion, hammer to fall shared in this topic, is not an audience version like the other tracks of the concert but is taken from the official cd...

Oh! Well, it sounds like an audience recording to me. A very good one!
ok, I disagree but... I remain on my idea!
in my opinion, in terms of audio quality, hammer to fall sounds much better than the rest of the show!
AMEN! :-)

I have this mini-album in my collection
It's an official EMI Parlophone release.
I don't know if it is allowed to post the back artwork here to prove this ?

This is my opinion:
bootLuca is right because the hammer to fall recording sounds definitely not the same like the rest of the tracks.
I think that it comes from the "Brian May Red Special Japanese Tour Mini Album" (who is responsible for this long and difficult name b.t.w)
Pim Derks is right, because the hammer to fall recording is not sounding like a 1:1 copy of the mini-album. I think the copy from mini album to tape took place before Pim did copy it back to his PC and shared it with us.

Oh.. ! Right, now that I've compared it to the rest of the recording... indeed you're right !
Sounds like this one track was replaced by a CD>cassette copy or something along those lines.
I just checked my old CDR copy (which I've had for about 10 years) and it's the same thing here. So it was a very long time ago that the replacement was done..
