Hello everybody. I have to tell you that i'm very surprised (In a good way) that Queen will release a non-hits compilation. I think it's a good idea. We all tired of re-re-re-release of Greatest Hits and Absolute Greatest and i think this could be a turning point in futures Queen releases. But (as allways) i think they could done better with the tracklist of this compilation. Don't get me wrong, i thing it's a good tracklist, but a little bit short. If wasme i made a 16 tracks in each cd and for this particular one i would add "Death on two legs" and "Brighton Rock". I don't know what you all think about that but i would like to read your opinions, your tracklist for Vol. 1 and if it's possible what song song do you peek for Deep Cuts Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. Cheers everybody |

So it's good that Queen won't re-release the hits but it IS good to re-release other stuff already available? |
ITSM 20.02.2011 19:16 |
It's better : ) |
silver_salmon 20.02.2011 20:36 |
It's just less worse.... I think that this Deep Cuts could be a sucessfull!! around 1991-1992 but at this time....the only expected value added could be the "stand-alone" versions of Ogre Battle and March Of The Black Queen....and maybe SHA medley either. But then, i think that there is no reason to buy this compilations. |
scollins 21.02.2011 04:06 |
its a bigger ripoff than velcro |
pittrek 21.02.2011 06:02 |
I seriously don't understand who do they expect will buy it. The old fans - why ? They have bought all these songs at least 4 times already The new fans - which new fans ? The collectors - why would they do it ? Well, the mp3 downloaders maybe will download it |
Mr. Bulsara 21.02.2011 08:55 |
I just thnk is better than the re-re-re-releases of Greatest Hits. And maybe this could be a turning point in the future releases, i don't know but i hope this coul be, that's all. And yes, there allways people and fans who going to buy it, liked or not, is just the things are. But overall is better than nothing right? If they didn't release nothing we were all were disscussing what a crappy band they were. And with this deep cuts we allways have an alternative Queen compilation to hear and to had in our collection Cheers |
Wiley 21.02.2011 09:24 |
I personally hope these Deep Cuts compilations do well as Queen may realize that average Joe is ready for a Live DVD with Queen's original singer (moustache-less Freddie) and eventually release it. |
Djdownsy 21.02.2011 09:32 |
Of course, i wont be buying this, having these songs available in Vinyl, Cd and mp3, but its interesting nonetheless. I do, however, agree with the earlier comment that there's no selling point for this, other than the most avid of collectors..but even among them, ive been hearing the idea of boycotting it. Now the tracklist itself, i like, however, few little niggling things, most blatant being 'I'm In Love With My Car', 'Stone Cold Crazy' and 'Keep Yourself Alive'. These tracks were already released on 'Queen Rocks', why release them again? 'Drowse' should have been placed on instead of 'I'm In Love With My Car', it's seriously underrated, and actually shows that Roger was, in fact, an excellent songwriter when the material warented it. Instead of 'Keep Yourself Alive', why not 'Great King Rat' or 'Liar' two of the most important early Queen songs in their career. And instead of 'Stone Cold Crazy', 'White Queen(As It Began). It should have been essential that if Black Queen was released, white Queen should have too, and vice versa. |

Why release it? OK, it's a different release than the constant greatest hits, but true fans will easily have the album tracks about three times over already. But we desperately need a Queen revival - where's the new crop of fans? Wavering in loyalty. And what's with the title? DEEP CUTS? Yeah, right. A true 'deep cuts' CD would have a rare outtake from each album's sessions. Polar Bear from the debut sessions, Nevermore electric piano version, a 1974 outtake of Sheer Heart Attack from when it would have been a title track, the originial piano demo of GSTQ, the earliest version of Let Me Live w/Rod Stewart (if it even exists), Feelings, Feelings, the rumoured early take of Coming Soon, the 1980 demo of Beautiful Day (I am craving to hear this...), HS version of Man Made Paradise, the August 1984 version of Let Me In Your Heart Again, Butterfly (which you can hear during a clip of Magic Years), I Guess We're Falling Out and a trimmed down version of Face It Alone which embodies all the best bits from that demo. And if they exist, the Brian and Roger vocal demos of Mother Love so a special hybrid Fred/Bri/Rog version could be made to make it akin to the released version of Let Me Live. |

Why release it? To get newcomers and casual ("I have their Greatest Hits, what else do I need?") fans to take a look at the album tracks. The content itself is up for debate, but keep in mind we're experienced Queen fans, knowledgeable on every album and the different 'periods' of the band. Imagine a person walking into the store, knowing only "Another One The Bites The Dust," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." They pick up Greatest Hits, but also see this other CD in amongst the stacks. Not wanting yet to commit to buys the albums yet, the person picks up Deep Cuts and thinks, "Okay, some period album tracks they say are good too. Why not?" and buys it. This could well lead to them exploring the parent albums and thus inducting a new fan into the ranks. Those naysayers who think this probably won't happen, well, at the risk of sounding like poorly-written commercial, it did work on me. I knew only a few Queen songs ("Rhapsody," "One Vision" and "Radio Ga Ga" ) when I bought Classic Queen on cassette in 1992. I did know WWRY, WATC and AOBTD, but never put together that it was the same band until soon after. Classic Queen is a mix of Hits and album tracks and when it's almost all new to you, you don't make the distinction. Collections aren't for hardened fans, generally, they're for new fans, made to draw them in and hopefully get them interested in the music. For us, it's little more than an exercise is seeing what songs make the Deep Cuts and which don't. And really, when we were younger, who here didn't make a few mix CDs and mix tapes for their friends in order to get them to hear what we thought were the great songs by Queen, hits or not? I know I did. |

I don't know if this has been widely reported, but I've just read from Rhythm magazine that Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) helped Brian and Roger compile the tracklisting for the Deep Cuts album. |

I think this release is a great idea. It will undoubtedly expose a lot of people to Queen's great album tracks from the 70s. The average person won't buy the first 6 albums, but they will certainly buy one disc with more obscure album tracks. Of course, for the bigger fans it's a no go, but for the man on the street this may help them realize that there was more to the band than the few big hits. The track selection is excellent. If and when the boxed set comes out, I'm sure the complainers will be out in full force squawking about a few omissions, and the fact that it was only 20 discs and not 30. |

Let us - as die-hards - not complain about the fact they finally seem to give the attention to the earlier albums those albums deserve... The next step is that they might realise that many fans are waiting for releases of early concerts... |

Anyone who buys this shite deserves to be hung up. Brian / Roger / Management - you've well and truly lost this "supporter" of your (well Queen's) music. |

Well, it is better then the other compilations. But i am not heppy. I will be, wnen they realesed Hyde park 76 or something like from early years. Greetings! |

As the days pass i have forget that this compilation exist, so nothing interesting. |

Deep cuts is a gift for new fans like me. The sleeve notes encourage you to put aside the radio queen you know and listen to the early Queen. I like listening to it a lot and the transitions between the tracks are quite nice and appreciated, it's meant to be listened to as an album experience - so you're missing the point if you say you already have these songs piece meal on separate albums. It's listening to them back to back in the order provided that's part of the treat (all about the flow). Now the other part of it is the aesthetic of the album itself. Anyone who's attended the Stormtroopers in Stilettos 40th Anniversary Queen Exhibition (Feb/March 2011, London) will recognize the art work and color scheme (black/pink) re-produced for the Deep Cuts cover art - so a nice tie in for those of us who experienced the show and watched many of these song performances as well at the show. I hope many fans will not over look this opportunity!!! There is so much there in the lyrics and music of the songs selected. |

Can someone explain : Why has it "KYA" when hasn't " Propeth Song" ? |
brENsKi 07.04.2011 10:28 |
i seriously doubt that the same person edited the endings of BOTH "march of the black queen" and "flick of the wrist". the former was inspired, the latter needs shooting |
rhyeking 07.04.2011 10:51 |
No one edited anything. Both appear as they were originally recorded. No, there is no remixing, editing, altering or other nonsense going on. On the advice of another poster, I ran a little test, taking the Japanese 3" CD Stand-alone version of "Funny How Love Is" and, using Audacity, positioned it with the Deep Cuts version of "Black Queen" and attempted to recreate the segue of the album. It was fairly easy to do. And you know what? It's identical! If I can figure out a way to do a video capture of high enough quality, I'll post this little experiment. So there! :-) After weeks of exhaustive research and sleepless nights, let me explain what I think is going on with our ears, it's very simple: the music drops out at that last "AAAAAAH!" and that makes it sound all weird and screwy. But, we have to keep in mind, *it was recorded this way!* The band planned to have FHLI come in underneath and without it, without *anything* supporting the vocals, it's a bit jarring. I'll say it again, though, the vocals are EXACTLY how they appear on the album. I am, right at this moment, 100% certain they sound exactly like this on the multi-track. |
Negative Creep 07.04.2011 11:45 |
Erm, yet it has been edited/slightly remixed at the end - stop spreading mis-information. The "little test" you've done doesn't prove anything. Of course the fucking vocal sounds the same - why wouldn't it?! For supposed sleepness nights you don't seem to understand whats right in front of you. It is BLATANTLY a new digital edit, the absolute giveaway is the way the instrumentation abruptly fades out underneath the new vocal track pasted over it. Christ. "I am, right at this moment, 100% certain they sound exactly like this on the multi-track. " What the fuck does that even mean? What is this comment relevant to? Are you suggesting the instrumentaion abruptly fades out on the multitracks?! lol Why do you thnk anything wouldn't sound like it is on the multitracks? Using elements from the multitrack, is erm... going to sound like it does on the multitrack.... Seriously - YOU ARE WRONG. |
rhyeking 07.04.2011 12:08 |
I can only spread misinformation if I'm considered an expert source of information to begin with. I'm not and never claimed to be. I'm telling you what I'm hearing and what I believe. I put it to you that short of any of us having the original multi-tracks, where we could hear if the instruments continue underneath, both of our views are speculation. The 'weeks of research and sleepless nights' was a joke, by the way. The tone of my post ought to have made that clear. Heck, I used the word "screwy" in the post. How could anyone take that word seriously? As always, I invite everyone to listen to the tracks, recreate the experiment and come to their own conclusions. Don't listen to me or anyone else, decide for yourselves. And don't be offended that people disagree. That's life! |
GinjaNinja 07.04.2011 13:20 |
I agree with Rhyeking. It sounds odd, but there's nothing wrong with it. I also put the two standalone versions together, and it sounds just fine. I think the reason it sounds odd is because there is a little volume drop at the same time as the cross fade. I think that there is probably a little bit more on the multitrack, possibly a last cymbal crash and piano chord, but nothing much. Just be thankful that they didn't fade it out instead. |
