...what would be their stage design and setlist be? Even if it never happened, we can still imagine |

You have no idea how much my brain was buzzing when I read this. It is a horrible shame that none of the Miracle and Innuendo songs were never done live (with Freddie anyway) so this is extremely interesting. As for the setlist... 1. One Vision [the 'God works in mysterious ways' tape is the extended album intro on Magic] - 5:14 2. First two lines of It's A Hard Life, with the piano going into the first two verses of Doing All Right - 1:40 3. Play the Game, but with the first 17 seconds of piano from Death on Two Legs to open it - 3:36 4. Princes of the Universe - 3:30 5. Party & Khashoggi's Ship medley [no onstage drum programming for Party] - 5:15 6. Under Pressure, with John doing intro bass for 26 sec. instead of usual 13 sec., before Brian comes in) - 4:13 7. Breakthru - 4:04 8. Killer Queen [extended solo from Brian] - 3:16 9. Keep Yourself Alive - 3:51 10. The Invisible Man - 4:07 11. I Want To Break Free - 4:25 12. Brighton Rock [incoorperating bits of Let Me In (Your Heart Again), SWAFIB and Ogre Battle] - 6:53 13. Friends Will Be Friends - 4:14 14. Now I'm Here & Tie Your Mother Down medley - 6:36 15. Somebody to Love - 5:17 16. Seven Seas of Rhye, but the 'seaside' bit is replaced by the last verse of The Miracle - 2:54 17. Love of My Life - 3:36 18. Bohemian Rhapsody - 5:30 19. Crazy Little Thing Called Love [with Polar Bear guitar intro] - 2:59 20. I Want It All - 4:15 21. A Kind of Magic - 4:35 22. Hammer to Fall - 3:25 23. We Will Rock You - 2:19 24. We Are the Champions - 3:23 25. God Save the Queen [Originial ANATO track on Tape] - 1:20 While the list might seem haphazardous at times, it's a good brainwave, so I hope its appreciated |

Do you have asperger's? All lame ass jokes aside, it's not the first time people have asked this, but I don't see any sense into letting my mind slip away and imagine a tour that hasn't happened and couldn't have happened, for the simple reason that Freddie would have dropped dead halfway through on the first night. It's just not my thing. |

The Miracle Express would be part of the stage construction. Roger would be playing with double bass drums on a rotating platform (as in the IWIA video). John would use his relatively new Giffin bass guitar. No changes in setup for Brian and Freddie. They would start the show with an edited version of Party (on tape), which would segue into Khashoggi's Ship (which would be played live by the band). I'm not sure about the rest of the setlist yet. |
Isle0fRed 11.02.2011 21:50 |
personally, i think the stage will be simular to IWIA setlist 1 One Vision 2 Tie your Mother Down 3 Speech + The Miracle (into medley) 4 Seven Seas of Rhye (medley) 5 Lily of the Valley (medley) 6 Breakthru (end medley) 7 Freds interaction 8 Under Pressure 9 Now I'm Here (into solo) 10 Guitar solo (into Khashoggi's ship) 11 Khashoggi's Ship 12 A Kind of Magic 13 BohRhap 14 I Want It All Encore 1 15 Hammer To Fall (simular to Q+PR tour) 16 Crazy Little Thing Called Love 17 Band Speech (i.e Thanks for all the years, this is for you) + Love Of My Life (or 39) Encore 2 18 We Will Rock You 19 Friends Will Be Friends 20 We Are The Champions |

Of course it just accurred to me that they could actually do a tour for a particular album from the past. In particular one that did not get a proper tour...things that make you go hmmm. Thanks for the idea! It might not be such a bad one! |

Hi All Just for fun (and to avoid a sociology assignment!) I've come up with a Miracle tour setlist of my own. I tried to keep it realistic, but it's a dream setlist so there's a couple of my fantasies in there! Party (taped intro) Khashoggi's Ship Tie Your Mother Down I Want It All First half of Liar / Tear It Up / A Kind of Magic Medley The Miracle Somebody To Love It's A Hard Life Vocal Improv Under Pressure The Invisible Man I Want To Break Free Now I'm Here Bass Solo (LOL) Brighton Rock (full version, with Brian Solo, incorporating bits of Chinese Torture) Is This The World We Created Love Of My Life 39 Breakthru (WITH the vocal intro, performed live) Radio Gaga Bohemian Rhapsody Hammer To Fall Crazy Little Thing Called Love Encore Break Who Wants To Live Forever Another One Bites The Dust We Will Rock You We Are The Champions God Save The Queen Occasional extra Encore of the Rock N Roll Medley from Hammersmith, or just Jailhouse Rock And of course, Queen would have had the second guitarist that they were so desperately missing on the Magic Tour! I'd buy this as a live album! |
br5946 24.02.2011 11:12 |
marcw10 - Very impressive! I see your sense in putting Party on a tape to open the concert - since that and Khashoggi's Ship open The Miracle album it would be ideal. Just an extra thought - since Freddie had done two solo albums by then (and because he seems to have ignored Mr. Bad Guy in 1986, but due to the Magic Tour being Queen's biggest its understandable), how about if he snuck in a few solo number ad-libs into the vocal improv? For example the famous 'dee-do-day-day' bits from Living on My Own, the weird extravaganza in the last 50 seconds of Man Made Paradise, a few lines from Gazelle, the belt-outs from Barcelona and the prolonged notes in How Can I Go On? It would be fun to visualise the crowd trying to match him on the opera bits! |
MadTheSwine73 06.09.2011 19:56 |
I'm surprised no one put in Was It All Worth It! I think for sure that would be a closing number, either between or after Rock You and Champions. |

I'm not feeling the Kashaoggis Ship intro. One Vision was a great opener, but I doubt they would've opened a '89 tour with it as generally they open with a new song to focus the 'concept' of the performance. I cannot picture a song off The Miracle being a good opener in a stadium - hence I guess the nature of this thread. They opened the '92 tibute with Tie Your Mother Down so I expect it would be that and the nature of the shows would be 'nostalgic' with only a couple of Miracle tracks in there. |
Raffy 07.09.2011 11:06 |
FOR THE MIRACLE TOUR I BELIEVE THAT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT SETLIST: 1. One Vision (Only intro voices without synths) + Party (tape) 2. Khashoggi's Ship 3. Tie Your Mother Down 4. I Want It All 5. Somebody to Love(Works Tour version) / The Miracle (final cutted) /Liar-Tear It Up (Magic Tour version) 6. A Kind Of Magic 7. Under Pressure 8. Vocal Improvisation 9. I Want to break free 10. Impromptu 11. Brighton Rock (with full band + Bri solo) 12. Breakthru -------------------------------------------------------------- 13. Love Of My Life 14. Is This The World We Created? -------------------------------------------------------------- 15. Was It All Worth It 16. Bohemian Rhapsody 17. Hammer To Fall 18. Crazy Little Thing Called Love -------------------------------------------------------------- 19. Another One Bites The Dust 20. Radio Ga Ga -------------------------------------------------------------- 21. We Will Rock You 22. Friends Will Be Friends 23. We Are The Champions 24. God Save The Queen |

A Kind Of Magic 8. Vocal Improvisation 9. Killer Queen (short version, seguing into...) 10. Seven Seas Of Rhye (short version, seguing into...) 11. Under Pressure (with David Bowie!!! :-) ) 12. In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited (the 1986 version) 13. Brighton Rock (with Guitar Solo with Chinese Torture) 14. Now I'm Here 15. Love Of My Life 16. Is This The World We Created 17. Who Wants To Live Forever 18. I Want To Break Free 19. Liar (full version) 20. (Band Jam at the beggining starting with the intro of Keep Yourself Alive from Montreal 1981) Another One Bites The Dust (with Bass Solo) 21. (with Mustapha intro at the beggining) Bohemian Rhapsody 22. Hammer To Fall 23. Crazy Little Thing Called Love Encore 1 24. One Vision (without the intro, seguing into...) 25. What surprises me is that Crazy Little Thing would be performed at only 2:59 and that's WITH the Polar Bear (highly unlikely) intro. ....i'd imagine it clocking in at somewhere along the lines of 7:58 (giving account for the time Fred would have to pick up his tele....and the ensuing jam that CLTCL becomes) Aspergers lol.... Assburgers more like it. Anal Retention breeds assburgers. I always loved the intensity of that song, just didn't like how "off" the "born to be kings, princes of the universe, fighting and free eee... got your world in my hand, i'm here for your love and i'll make my stand" part... sounded kinda rushed or forced... like they couldn't figure out something better... sounded like "Survivor" or something... I'm just saying... the rest of the song tears donkeys to pieces. On that note, Princess of the Universe wouldn't have been played.... not even 99% probability... more like 100% cause that song does not exist. Other examples of songs by known artists that do not exist: Van Halen - Animal (Panama) Chi Lites - Abesina (Have You Seen Her) Clash - Rock the Dance Floor/Youre really gonna like it, Block The Taskbar, Rock the Cash Bar, Block the Asphalt (casbah) Aerosmith - Do It Like a Lady Adele - Chasing Penguins |

If PotU wasn't played on the Magic tour and it wasn't really a big hit at the time, it's unlikely to have been used on any prospective 'Miracle tour. By the way can we have a discussion on the name as I think it may well have broken the tradition and been called the 'Breakthru' tour. Just sounds better, to me anyway. |

A little known fact is that shows were planned to support The Miracle album. The band were looking at playing multiple nights at a select handful of European cities, including London. The show was going to be billed as A Night at The Miracle pavilion. Stage and lighting designs were drawn up and some dates were booked, though not officially announced. It is believed that during this time Freddie decided that he either didn't want to or couldn't commit to any live shows so the plan was scrapped. |

Interview with RT in the Daily Mirror just after the album's release. He goes into some detail of what the show would be and calls it A Night At The Miracle Pavilion and also says that they are looking at venues. Although the main part of the interview wasn't about the shows, the headline was Queen in million pound world tour! Even though in the interview nothing was said about shows outside Europe and RT never called it a tour! My other source is from within the industry, who confirmed that stage plans were drawn up and a lighting rig was almost at the stage of being put together. And some European venues were provisionally booked. |

I made something looking like this: Queen - A Night at the Miracle Pavillon Regular Setlist: 01 Breakthru (with the "A New Life is Bron" intro pre-recorded) 02 Tie Your Mother Down 03 Keep Yourself Alive (with short drum solo, such as in '74) 04 Somebody to Love 05 A Kind of Magic 06 The Miracle (piano intro to Death on Two Legs as the intro) 07 Killer Queen 08 Seven Seas of Rhye 09 Too Much Love Will Kill You (semi-acoustic, Brian on lead vocals) 10 Brighton Rock (full song, with "Chinese Torture" as the solo) 11 In The Lap of The Gods... Revisited 12 Under Pressure (extended bass intro) 13 Now I'm Here 14 I Want It All (single version, with vocal improv as the intro) 15 Love of My Life (acoustic version, lots of crowd interaction) 16 Is This The World We Created? (acoustic version as well) 17 Crazy Little Thing Called Love 18 I Want to Break Free 19 Stone Cold Crazy (percussion solo serving as the intro) 20 The Invisible Man 21 Another One Bites the Dust (with short bass solo as the intro) 22 Scandal 23 Bohemian Rhapsody (Mustapha as the intro, instead of original) 24 Hammer to Fall 25 Was It All Worth It? (with short keyboard solo instead of the intro) First Encore: 26 One Vision (with a shorter taped intro) 27 Jailhouse Rock 28 Radio Ga Ga 29 Who Wants to Live Forever Second Encore: 30 We Will Rock You (fast concert version) 31 Friends Will Be Friends (with the "Liar" Magic Tour guitar intro) 32 We Are the Champions 33 God Save the Queen (pre-recorded outro from ANATO) For some changes, as well as Spike Edney, they would have a second guitarrist (like the Tribute Concert or Paul Rodgers tour), and percussionist, such as the Adam Lambert tour. I was toying around with the idea of the two female backing vocalists they had in the Tribute Concert, but I'm not entirely sure |

If they toured The Miracle, in keeping with current thinking, they wouldn't have played anything from that album! ;)) |

I never believed the 1989 tour story. If RT said it, it was to create the illusion it was a fully functioning band at that point. The fashions in 1989 would've been less kind to Queen than they were in 1986. |

Old thread etc... but yes, I don't believe anything about the 1989 supposed tour plans. Freddie took "final" decisions. The Magic Tour was the last, and he knew it, and that's how he wanted it. He could never have done a tour in 1989. There's a reason he last performed live in 1988 (Barcelona mime and Time). That was the last time he could look like the Freddie we knew. |

I wonder what the setlist would've looked like if they toured Made In Heaveee.... oh yeah right :( |

Some very interesting ideas guys! I wonder what thier stage attire would have been like in 1989? Obviously offstage and in the videos they (Freddie in particular) were dressing more conservatively, with shirts, ties, waistcoats and the occasional whistle and flute. Wonder if that would have crossed over to stage wear? Even if Fred had not been ill, one wonders if he would have been running around onstage in 1989 in his singlet or bare chested. Didn't he mention something about being "too old to run around in a leotard any more"? I think such a tour would have seen a more mature Queen take to the stage, both musically and visually. |

link When i hear the 12" extended version of Breakthru i can really imagine this a intro song for the setlist. On tape until the Now an then the band comes. Perhaps this extended version was created with that in mind. Who knows? |
