The aforementioned is the title of a book written by Roy Allen, a Philadelphia Air Force pilot who was shot down in Germany during World War II. It chronicles his survival, betrayal to the SS, prison camp confinements, and other personal hells until rescue in 1945.
His bombadier on that flight was Bill Goldsborough. He was mentioned in the book a couple of times. It was our pleasure to have him as a neighbor the past three years. He made his escape across Germany to England in a much easier fashion. He loved his daughters and son-in-laws, his grandkids, the Baltimore Ravens, lighthouses, crocheting,
drinking whiskey, playing cards, ...not afraid to call an idiot an idiot or a friend a friend, regardless of political party or religious affilliation. He was part of the 'greatest generation'.
For those who complain because their soup is not quite hot or thick or spicy enough, or their steak is not quite medium rare enough, please read the book. Hopefully, it will give you a different perspective in life. Those who read this forum are lucky to have had men (and women) like him to have suffered and busted their asses so that we could enjoy what we have.
We will miss you, kind sir.
