A brief question that occured to me while skimming through The Solo Collection, behemoth that it is: Has any member guested on another's solo effort?
Here's what I came up with and I hope I can get the ball rolling for more suggestions:
John does bass on How Can I Go On? (Freddie track from the album Barcelona, 1988)
Freddie does lead vocal on the Cross version of Heaven for Everyone (Shove It, 1988) - a side note here, he does lead on the UK version of the album, backing vocals on the US version
Brian does guitar on Love Lies Bleeding (Shove It)
Some rules for submitting entries:
The guesting member can do outside what they did in Queen (so you have a suggestion where Brian or Roger do backing vocals, for example, it can be submitted)
If members guest but the main artist isn't connected to Queen, it's not eligible for entry (so for example Man from Manhattan does NOT count, despite it turning up on the Dutch CD Ghost of a Smile and The Solo Collection, because Eddie Howell is the main artist, despite Freddie and Brian doing their Queen duties)
Have fun scraping your vaults for entries!
Others that I can remember:
- John plays bass on Nothin' But Blue
- Roger sings backing vocals on The Great Pretender
- Roger sings backing vocals on Star Fleet
- John plays on Roger's unreleased Olympic Theme
- Freddie sings a phrase in I Cry For You (Single Version)
- Roger, Brian and John play in Love Kills
- John remixed I Cry For You for the single releases
- John plays on "Shove It", but it is unknown in what tracks
- Brian plays on the She Blows Hot & Cold demo found on The Solo Collection
- Freddie's voice and Brian's voice and guitar are featured in the Shove It song, but it's not a proper collaboration
- Roger appears in The Great Pretender video (original footage - archive footage is not listed here)
- Brian appears in Living On My Own video (original footage - archive footage is not listed here)
This all I can add at this moment, but there may be more.
leto - It's unknown whether Freddie actually does backing vocals on Killing Time or not, it's just a rumour going around since Strange Frontier came out in '84. It wouldn't surprise if he did, though. It is said to sound like him during the interlude, but we can leave it to guesswork on if he did. Until Roger confirms it, all we can do is guess.
LastHorizon - I'm impressed! I knew a majority of those, but you threw in a few which were surprises. Nothin' But Blue originially started off on Cozy Powell's The Drums Are Back, and I had to check whether it ended up on Back to the Light or not. If not, it would have been a Man from Manhattan situation. I'll give you extra credit for knowing about the music videos, but the post states 'guest appearances on records'. That doesn't put you down though! I must say Roger doesn't do backing vocals on the Great Pretender. He mimes bv in the video, but the misconception that he does them on the track is an erroneous credit from the liner notes of Lover of Life, Singer of Songs

Dear BR,
"Nothin' But Blue" is included indeed in the "Back To The Light" album, and John appears in the credits. I can confirm that this is a different situation than "Man From Manhattan" (or "That's The Way God Planned It", "Smoke On The Water", "Who Wants To Live Forever" -1989 release- or "The Stonk" to name a few). I would also add "Time", featuring Roger on backing vocals. I have never read anywhere ever about this at all, but my ears tell me that it is Roger singing the chorus. Since this is purely a personal assumption, I did not mention it.
No, he doesn't: you can hear him doing the high harmony on the chorus: 'Starfleet' is a two-part on the first iteration (Roger and Brian), and only Brian's lead on the second.
I don't beleive John played bass on Roger's Olympic theme, I've never heard that before.
Shove It includes Queen samples. so I wouldn't count that as a collaboration. (Brilliant track though!)
Peter Straker and Roger do NOT do backing vocals for The Great Pretender, they just appear in the video.
