Would it have been a good idea for Freddie to have done a solo tour for his Mr. Bad Guy release? I've always wondered if it would had been a successful tour if he had done it. The reason why he problalby didnt was that it was only one album and not enough material to cover a set; unless he threw in some Queen stuff.
When could he do such tour?
The album was released the day Queen finished their last Oceania leg ever. For the Japanese leg (starting off a week and a half later), Queen were already scheduled to perform, as opposed to just Freddie. Had he embarked on a solo tour in summer, he'd have to cut it short unless he wanted to miss Live Aid.
From September onwards they were recording the Highlander soundtrack and other things that ended up on A Kind of Magic. Then there was the Magic tour. Then the recordings for The Great Pretender (single). Then the Barcelona project. And by then, Freddie's health condition wouldn't make him able to pass the necessary checks.
I don't think there's a chance Freddie would have done a solo tour. He knew the four of them were better than any of them alone. Besides, what would he sing? Sure, he could have done a song or two, IWBTLY and LOMO, but what after that? There are a few others, but there's not enough for a full concert, so that'd mean adding Queen songs to the list. And who better to play Queen songs than Queen themselves?
He could have done a solo tour with only song from Mr. Bad Guy but given that there weren't enough for a full set he could have been a support act. But we all know Freddie would have never done a support act tour.
