Just saw it.
TATDOOL - Rufus on drums. Roger in good voice, Brian on top form & the Red Special sounded really nice.
Last Horizon - nicely done again by Brian. It segued into a quick bit that suggested he was going to do a long Brighton Rock-type solo, but that quickly ended and he finished with more from Last Horizon (maybe Sky edited it out -- it was a little weird just having a small bit like that).
Its a Hard Life - with the singer from Keane and Roger and Rufus on drums. Brian talking crap -- "it's never been performed live" Hmmmm...
Okay, the Keane dude nailed the intro but I don't like his voice, It sounds weedy. Plus I hate it when someone's about to play an instrument and the lead singer introduces him during the fucking song. Hence in the middle of Brian's guitar bit the Keane dude shouts "Mr Brian May!" He then tried rockin along beside Brian and just looked like a dick.
7 seas of rhye - everything sounded good -- very good in fact, but Midge Ure was out of his depth and his voice is completely unsuited to the song.
We Will Rock You - awful, as all "it's the end of the show so let's have everyone on stage singing" songs are. Tom Jones looked like he'd taken the wrong turn in a restaurant and ended up walking into the middle of a mafia meeting.
Overall, Roger and Brian have still got "it", they just haven't realised what "it" is.
Althought the vocalist ruined the song, it was a real pleasure and a suprise to see the guys playing the seven seas of rye again (from the begining to te very end!).
I never thought it was possible.
Those who didn't see it, must click here now link (last horizon is missing but there is a link for that one on youtube).
Now I feel more hopefull about the band in this new year.
I didn't mind the guy from Keane singing It's A Hard Life actually. I thought he did a pretty good job. A lot better than Midge Ure did with Seven Seas Of Rhye. It was great to see 2 old classics performed live again though. But, what gets me is, why do they need 2 drummers during the set? I know it's nice to have Rufus playing during Days Of Our Lives whilst Rog concentrated on singing, but the rest didn't really need it. Roger is better than that.
