I hope this question is not too boring, but I have never found much information about it.
How did Freddie treat fans, when he met them? What is known about that? Have there ever been "Meet and greet" - events backstage? Did he sign autographs on the street or was he surrounded by bodyguards? Any experiences?
During the recording of the Innuendo album, the fan club ran a competiton to meet the band in the studio. I think Brian didn't make it, but there were pics in the fan club magazine at the time of the winners with Freddie, John, and I think Roger.
Especially as Freddie must have been pretty ill by then, to meet fans like that was very good. I don't actually recall him ever really been very 'public' with the fans in the earlier days of their career (certainly not in the same way as Brian and Roger), so perhaps his illness 'mellowed' him, and he thought that he should do that whilst he had the chance, and before his physical deterioration became too apparent?
I've never seen any feedback from that meet and greet other than in the fan club mag at the time - it wuld be nice if the winners were on QZ and could provide their recollections of the day sometime.
met him in a bar in charlotte nc after the show
brief 3 minute greeting
was very nice--smelled so damn good--
had alot of animinity there--was shocked folks didnt realize who was there..but also grateful he was able to have some fun, some peace without people hanging all over him
thank you my dear..... he said....
3 days later in Philly.... saw them again...he came over to where i was standing-- oh we have some family here..hello and he waved.... jamie and i knew..it was a hello to us... he remembered...
special moment-special time-special person...
It was during the making of 'The Miracle' where the fan club had a competition to meet the band in the studio. Roger was ill that day, but the others turned up to meet the lucky winners. God i wish i was one of them!
Yes it was for the Miracle sessions in 1988 at Olympic studios Barnes...Freddie looked immaculate dressed all in white,no Rog though as he was ill. Three of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet.So in awe of Freddie, very softly spoken, down to earth, you would NEVER guess that this was the same person on stage. No one got near to the band for Innuendo,as Freddie of course was getting ill.I will dig out some pics soon !
I know a few people who have met Freddie and they all said the same thing - rude and arrogant. Freddie was/still is their hero so they wouldn't bad mouth him, but that was just their genuine experience with him. I'd still like to think of him as kind, friendly and approachable. I won't have my bubble burst lol
