QUEEN - GREATEST HITS REISSUE TO CELEBRATE THE START OF 40TH ANNIVERSARY
| Queenzone Ghost 09.12.2010 07:45 |
January 1st 2011 sees Island Records re-issue Queen’s Greatest Hits and Greatest Hits 2 collections. Greatest Hits remains the best selling UK album of all time and combined with Greatest Hits 2 presents the definitive Queen collection. Together they form among one the seminal collections in rock history jointly selling an incredible 40 million copies worldwide. Both albums have been digitally re-mastered for 2011 by Bob Ludwig, the legendary mastering engineer who has worked with U2, Coldplay and Radiohead, and come complete with refreshed sleeve notes. The Greatest Hits re-issues start what is going to be a huge year for Queen, as 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of their formation in 1971. The Anniversary year kicks off with a major exhibition, ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ – a comprehensive look at the early part of Queen’s career. Taking place in The Old Truman Brewery in the heart of London’s East End the exhibition opens on February 25th running through to March 12th, and will cover the band pre-Queen, their formation and their first five albums from the first half of the 1970’s. Newly signed to legendary label Island Records, and to coincide with the exhibition, the first five albums that Queen released – “Queenâ€, “Queen IIâ€, “Sheer Heart Attackâ€, “A Night At The Opera†and “A Day At The Races – will be re-mastered and re-packaged into special deluxe album formats released in March 2011 Subsequent to the exhibition there will be a major BBC TV Documentary featuring a rare interview with Roger Taylor and Brian May and many other surprises and releases to come through the rest of the year. 2011 will see filming begin of a major Hollywood movie about Queen, starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury. Acclaimed script writer Peter Morgan (“The Queenâ€,†Frost/Nixon†) is working on the project, which is being produced by GK Films, Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films. SERIOUSLY FUCK GREATEST HITS. I mean seriously...how many more of them do we need? This better not be the only "surprise" coming out in 2011 for the 40th anniversary...there better be some live concerts. |
| Goodoldfashionedloverboy 09.12.2010 09:48 |
I agree. Give us a big piece of video concerts, and a small part of the songs. |
| rhapsody8 09.12.2010 10:10 |
Resolution of the top image is more exciting than Greatest Hits 2011 for me... :) What will be the next Queen video? "Live At The Old Wembley" or "Queen Rock Again Montreal" |

Queen - Greatest Hits Reissue To Empty Your Pockets Once More 40th Anniversary Edition "This release features a remastered version of WWRY where the countdown has been succesfully edited out. Hence, we call this the Clean Version. Throw your old copies away, this IS the definitive version. For now." ~ Greg Brooks "The loudness is even more severe than the other releases. Deafness unavoidable. Must buy." ~ New York Times "Queen sure knows how to milk the cash cow. The solution to the financial crisis is near." ~ The Daily Mail "Queen has been part of a solid recycle policy for years and we love them for that." ~ The Sun "Wow, once again nothing new from the legendary rock band Queen. But who gives? The general public wants this." ~ Rolling Stones Magazine "Queen has let down their fans many times, including this release. But why care about fans? It's the money that counts. Congratulations Queen, you delivered a great job." ~ Financial Times |

More than just Christians 'celebrate' Christmas. I'm not surprised it's being sold after the holidays. Queen & Co seem to be doing the opposite of whats right these days... |

People just don't seem to realise that these are the remastered remasters. Queen's Greatest Hits have never been so, errr, loud! |

Hey guys, c'mon! Maybe this reissue comes with something extra like.... er.... an audio commentary of Greg Brooks saying "Property of QP"... that would be awsome, right? Or maybe some unseen photos of... er... Greg Brooks saying "Property or QP", and that is something new, right? Well.... maybe the best thing is to wait 'til March for the re-editions of the old LP. |

Maybe we should calm down and wait for the next year? Was Announced plans, but agree that the exhibition and launch the first four albums will not be stretched over the whole year, and about the other plans have not yet been announced, perhaps something change. |

I already have the greatest hits cds so i dont need to buy them, they sound great as they are |
| Goodoldfashionedloverboy 10.12.2010 04:17 |
Universal now show off, release compilations of hits is kind of shaking down money from the new army of fans is growing Queen. So this release is just superfluous merely bait. 13 years of my fanaticism is hardly worthy to be an old fan. But nevertheless, I would like to have released 70's era concerts. |
| forever 10.12.2010 06:14 |
I guess Greatest video hits 3 is no longer in the pipeline? |
| plumrach 10.12.2010 06:20 |
A GH£ dvd would be fabulous, perhaps that might be something they would consider doing i dont want to keep looking at youtube every time i want to see any of the innuendo album, perhaps they could put some of Roger and Brian's solo stuff on there as well Freddies is on the Untold Story dvd so we dont need any of that on a gh3 |
| Goodoldfashionedloverboy 10.12.2010 06:23 |
I wanna DVD Live at the Rainbow full version or hammersmith odeon 1975 or 1979 |
| queen79luca 10.12.2010 07:15 |
I wondering what they mean for "re-mastered and re-packaged into special deluxe album formats " . I mean its just a case of new cover art-work ? Correct me guys if I am wrong ..but..I think that all the EMI's cd will move out of HMV stores ext..ext.. Universal cd will be on..so...considering that they want to catch masses of people, I don t think that there will be bonus on the cd's. Why?..because with 12 £ u can sell again the same stuffs having has a target masses of people. A cd with 15-16 songs it ll cost quite more..15-16 £...it ll be just gold for a real fan that he ll invest the money to buy it. I am not optimistic...after march iit ll arrive the second wave..and the third wave..ever the same.......again and again, |

Out of subject but Innuendo Electronic Press Kit would be a great bonus for GVH3 . I wanna this DVD for extra materials more than the videos :) Incredible footage from Queen's last times. What do you think? |

Surely, Universal would have to release Greatest Hits I & II (why not III as well) anyway now that they are Queen's record company? Yes, we've got the rights to Queen's back catalogue but because we've no interest in making money, we're not going to release 2 albums that have sold by the truckload - that really makes sound economic sense. I think that the real downer was the release of Absolute Greatest last year by EMI - that really was scraping the bottom of the barrel. You don't HAVE TO buy GH I&II again you know. I, like every other Queen fan, is just praying we get something interesting and new released (a few live shows, demoes, unreleased tracks etc) as well as the already released albums... |
| Goodoldfashionedloverboy 10.12.2010 08:28 |
The question is not topic. What for concert the 70's you would like to see on DVD? Is the concert in Hyde Park, one of the main contenders for the official release? |
| rubens 10.12.2010 09:05 |
I think they are pretty right this time. They said it's just the begining of the new plans to the band, and if I was Universal I would start exactly like this. You know, reissue GH albums before the first ones is the perfect way to create new hardcore fans to the band. The casual listener who buy and like the GH probaly will buy the new "old" album releases, if they do it with properly advertisement this time. You see I will not buy the GH again, but if they re-release the studio albums with good extras, and it seems is possible this time, they can lauch as many compilations as they want. If they try to please the hardcores and casuals ones, it's good for evebody, and will keep the band alive. |
| Wiley 10.12.2010 09:05 |
So, no mention of GH3. Not surprising, though. It's not as successful as the others. Perhaps Universal's Greatest Hits will be different, that is, different artwork, tracklisting, etc. Like when Hollywood Records released the pink Greatest Hits and Classic Queen. Now, releasing the exact same product with a different label. That would be lazy. |

| Wilki Amieva 10.12.2010 10:32 |
Calm down, people. Are you really THAT surprised? As QUEEN's new label, Island Records' first logic step would be to release their most well known hit compilations ASAP - that is on Januray 1st 2011. |

No the Guy is just pasting everything into the Google translator, the situation would be different if he was trying, would u post in a forum using a Google translator? He has no clue of the basics of the English language, so helping him will never improve anything, he will still be misunderstanding and we will still have to decipher the same 2 questions posted in every thread. If he was like the many other none English posters, who can read and write a little English and will improve if given time and helped it would be different. PauloPanucci is a great example of this, he came here only knowing the basics. |

I agree with you, You just keep on writing and that's it. If somebody doesn't understand your English or think that your skills are not great, then that's their problem. Nobody's perfect ;) Just keep on smiling! And remember, Queen is reissuing GH I and II, so there's a good reason to celebrate!!!!! ....well no, not really. |

his lack of English has little to do with it. Anyone who repeats the same questions starts a new post to add a sentence gets answers to questions without giving a PLEASE or THANK you and retaliates after invading threads by saying "you don't need to read my posts" would be treated the same way. |
| Goodoldfashionedloverboy 12.12.2010 02:15 |
Which alternative version of song, demo, outtake there is in albums queen II, sheer heart attack, a night at the opera, a day at the races, news of the world, jazz, the game, hot space, the works, a kind of magic, the miracle, innuendo, made in heaven? |
