Hello Queen fans, It's Ale here, QueenItalia.it and QueenCuttings.com webmaster. I'm writing you to officially confirm that David Richards was our guest in celebrating our (The Italian Queen Community link 5th anniversary on line, in Rome last 27th Nov. He was very kind and always smiling, he was really willing with all the fans that were there at STAZIONE BIRRA, one of the most famous disco-pub in Ciampino (Rome). During his speech, he told us that he found a tape with some sessions from 1989, he completely forgot. He played us something and it was really interesting. Something that nobody ever listen to before. The fact is: we are a community of fans, and one of our mission is to SHARE. Share passion, share stories, share all. So, to avoid that CRAP files or bad quality recordings of that night would make any speculation or used as "something to trade secretely" or things like this, I DECIDED on my own responsability to ask all the people I know were recording last night, not to share but send me their stuff in order to CHECK it, repairs and clear if necessary and then GIVE THE QUEEN COMMUNITY ONLY THE BEST VERSION POSSIBILE: My philosophy is: It's impossible to ask all the 300 people that was there NOT to share nothing. So, as in every case that demos would be on line, so It's better if we, the community that organized the event, share only the best version in a nice way. So, for your pleasure, this is our YouTube channel: link You will find: AFFAIRS (an improvisation - Freddie's voice too - from 1989) GRAND DAME (a never finished song, instrumental, without Freddie's voice - from 1989) an early version of BARCELONA (that Richards told us Freddie recorded with the only purpose to take the tape to a translator to have the verses sung in spanish) It was played a different version of DON'T TRY SO HARD too, as soon as I receive stuff from our members, I will upload the best version, as I already did with the other. Later, I will share links to have .wav files directly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The last thing I can say is that I asked David if he was contacted by Queen Production to be "ready" to produce something next year, to celebrate Queen's 40 years. He simply replied "sorry, I cannot reply to this question" with a smile on his face. I think it could be considered a positive warning :-) Rock on my mail: alessandro.cannarozzo@gmail.com |

Please, is the "Barcelona" demo the same that is in Freddie's Solo Box Set (2001) in your opinion? I cannot check now and i think It's better I put off from YouTube if the answer is YES. But I seem to remember there were differences, this was the first impression I had when I listen to it during our convention. Thanks for the help! Rock on |

ATTENTION ! Please let someone with better ears check/confirm ( I think it is the "Freddie Vocal Sleeve" ver.) if that's the same version (Barcelona) which has been put on the FM Solo Box Set as people responsible for the copyright could ask You Tube to take down the site. |

Thanks very much to all the attendees who recorded the session. Okay. It's time to correct the date of the Barcelona track before anyone else copies and pastes Ale's mistake. The album was recorded in 1987, and released in 1988, therefore the date of this early version would 1987, would it not? |

There's something missing here. I can't quite put my finger on it, it's missing a certain melodic line that goes something like this: *dah dum dum de diddly dum dum "of Queen Productions"* Just kidding ;-) |

Dear All here you'll find the same demos played that night (already on YouTube) in .wav files link I won't upload nothing more coming from that night, I'm sorry. I can't indeed, you know I would do it. By the way, I remember that a "raw" mix of Innuendo was played at the beginning of David speech (a very very short version, not the entire song) and of course that version of Don't Try So Hard. Personally, I haven't this two recordings. But I really think they wil coming out on the net soon, in a way or an other, also if not by me Keep on rockin' |
The Real Wizard 02.12.2010 19:03 |
Excellent, thanks for the lossless copies, Ale. What was different about the versions of Innuendo and Don't Try So Hard? |

Sir GH wrote: Excellent, thanks for the lossless copies, Ale. What was different about the versions of Innuendo and Don't Try So Hard? Honestly I can't remember. Sorry - I was on stage with David doing my best for all the things will go fine. I remember Don't Try So Hard was beautiful, you could listen to a very acute Freddie's voice. They will be out too, I'm pretty sure Rock on |

I have question. If these demos are from 1989 so it was end of Miracle session or early Innuendo session. What do you think? Miracle session was January 1988 - February 1989. |

Miracle session was January 1988 - February 1989.The date of the Barcelona recording was wrong, so maybe these are wrong too.. Roger's snare sounds more like The Miracle than Innuendo. But of course it's not a final mix, so it's hard to say. But that big Innuendo snare sound is there on Robbery... Also, if this is from the Miracle sessions, it's technically possible that it's from early 1989 - but not likely. Chances are they were focusing on the ten tracks they had chosen for the record and the few B sides, not trying out new ideas when they're nearly done the album. So there's my thought for the day.. |

The Real Wizard 05.12.2010 22:09 |
Good one, Arnaldo. The melodies are similar. I think it's pretty clear that these tracks are from The Miracle sessions. Freddie's voice developed a different quality as he got more ill. He probably learned how to use his voice within his illness, figuring out which vocal techniques were less painful than others. These tracks definitely sound more like 80s Freddie. |
brians wig 06.12.2010 02:26 |
I'd be interested to find out if the tape that David Richards 'discovered' is a compact cassette copy or the original reel-reel tape? Obviously ihis begs the question, "Did QPL previously possess the masters in their archive, or IS this the master tape? If so, then how come David Richards had it?" |
Vali 06.12.2010 10:36 |

Jam Monkey 06.12.2010 14:20 |
Thank you very much for sharing the wav files. As these demos were recorded in 1989 I think it is much more likely they come from the Innuendo sessions. The Miracle sessions wound up very early in 1989, and I don't think the band would be recording this raw demos by that point. Surely by that stage it would have been about finishing the tracks they had? Anyway whenever they are from I am glad we got to hear them. |
inu-liger 06.12.2010 14:41 |
I guess people didn't read my post on the other topic...I talked to David Richards himself on Facebook the other day, and he said the jams were from the Innuendo Montreux sessions. And they WERE on a cassette tape (though I'm told of absolute AMAZING quality, and based on the fan recordings here, I have to agree!), not reel-to-reel. |
The Real Wizard 06.12.2010 16:19 |
He got the date of the Freddie track wrong, so maybe he's wrong about these ones too. It doesn't really matter to me either way, as I have no stake in the outcome... but I'm just putting it out there. Glad we can hear the tracks, which is the bottom line. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 06.12.2010 18:36 |
I don't know, but to my ears it does sound a lot like Miracle stuff, like Hang On In There, Fiddly Jam or even I Guess We're Falling Out. Years tend to merge two decades later. It all becomes a little blurry. Well, like Bob said, the bottom line is that we can hear those tracks now and they are great. I'm glad I got my Queen fix again :) Cheers, Ogre- |
Ale Solan 06.12.2010 21:15 |
Grand Dame sounds quite like Robbery to me. |
inu-liger 06.12.2010 23:00 |
My guess is that these jams were initiated in the early stages of the Innuendo sessions, which WOULD in that case place them around early/mid 1989. I think somewhere down the line after these jams, they decided to revamp the drum sound that they were going for at the time. So I can understand why a lot of people would be fooled into thinking these were Miracle session demos. |

I recall the recordings for Innuendo started in March 1989, so there shouldn't be a real difference in style from the late Miracle sessions, right? |
