You're right Peter.
19 years ago today, Dr Who celebrated its 28th birthday and mourned its 2nd consecutive year without a new series.
Anybody else sad enough to have watched "An Unearthly Child" tonight?
I heard the news on the radio. Freddie had confirmed his disease...
When I showed up at work the next morning my colleagues told me Freddie died! I really couldn't believe them. I thought they misinterpreted the news from the day before. I actually got mad at them. But then I turned on the radio in the storageroom... The rest of the day / week I was very upset.
I also recall a broadcast on our local radiostation wich I produced at that time. We played Queen records all night long instead of our regular two hour show. We never had much telephonecallers on the show but that night we had to use all available lines.
Later on we did a special on Made In Heaven on the day of it's release.

I remember clearly. A friend of mine and my grandma caled me and told me. I had to believe it was true though i didnt quite belive the rumour about that he had AIDS.
I even remember the face of the reporter from the news ....for the first time in my life at the age of 14 i've lost a very important person and i cried for days...I remember my mother telling me this:"Don't cry honney, smile and be happy for what he was while he was alive, you'll have always his pictures and his music to confort you on your sad days,it will help u see."How right she was!I always light up a candle on this day...miss him hugely!
