hello! this is my first post i have a question with the concert of mannheim 86, i think the band film the whole show, with the helicopter, like in wembley, in budapest and in knebworth. And we have the complete shows (except knebworth by problems during filmation or bomb release in the future, who knows) Somobody can confirm QueenProductions film the entire show (not only WATC for the german news)? and you think one day they release the concert? And with Cologne 86, i read they filmed the show in 35 mm but the director overtaped all the film for make the budapest concert, is this true, a urban legend, or what? German television station ZDF filmed only short bit of Assasin (Marillion) and complete We Are The Champions for one of the September episodes (Rock Sommer '86) of RockPop In Concert in 1986. There is also short footage filmed by Doro crew from the backstage, which was used in many documentaries, but that's all we have. |

If I remember correctly Mannheim and Cologne were professionaly filmed by the Hungarian crew as a test for Budapest concert, but both films were lost or taped over (?). |

So it's very likely, that only those few songs have been filmed. Anyway - this tour is documented very well with Budapest and Wembley plus the radio broadcast from Mannheim. And as the setlists are quite identical - who really needs more? |

well i think it could be very interesting to see the concerts of mannheim and koln, and even knebworth if still exist, i don't care the setlist, its queen on raw power in front of the greatest audiences in europe. I only want to know if the footage of these concerts exist and the possibility of one day can see the day of light. Another bands edit DVD with more of one concerts of each tour, like rolling stones in bigger bang or Muse in Absolution Tour and probably in the new DVD of The Resistance. Queen Productions could do the same, but only if the concerts were really filmed, and this is i want to know |

I think "Soundfreak" had a good speach. The Magic Tour is very well-covered, also I think Brian spoke quite a lot about Budapest show on Dvd..so...that s it.. Of course we ll never know,,but better to not be too optimistic. I hope something will come out, u know now we found out that Paris 86 it was shot professionally..so maybe looking in some news data bases of Germany, Spain, Sweden we can find others jewels... Wembley shows IMO aren t the peak of Magic Tour. |

'The Magic Tour' was extensively documented. There is many shows which have been full shooted as these above. I do not believe in 'fairy tale' like: Köln was overtaped (for save money) for the Budapest show or somebody from staff in Knebworth forgot to plug in the cable from all cameras to recorder etc. I think that Queen Productions doesn't want to release this shows 'cos everything is very similar to Wembley or Budapest. These releases will enjoy Queen fans only and they (Queen) want to reach more customers. Maybe one day Queen Productions will release some box with DVD shows or we will be able to download choosen concert from their web site (for charge of course). Future shows... |

Urban legend is when newbies dont read the old posts and create those legends. Facts: Mannheim and (possibly) Cologne were recorded by the director with one hand-held VHS camera, presumably from a rear standing point at the mixing desk. The director and the director of photography went to see the band in Mannheim first, and recorded the show to be able to analyse it later and decide about how to record the Budapest show, as well as show it to the camera crew what to expect and which angles to use best etc etc. They also went to Cologne for a second visit to meet the band and see another show before Budapest. The director was never able to tell us what happened with those vhs tapes (he said its probably taped over or lost...) , he clearly said he considered those as 'vhs recordings, having no value' . Obviously not the 35mm film was re-used..!!... |

'Newbies' don't make any legends but they based on facts and they read old posts too (even Greg Brooks-Queen archivist once say that the tapes are, and once say that there is no any video records). And here we've got 'Great Old' post author which know everything the best and behave like personal assistant to Janos Zsombolyai :-D. He knows the best that there were a short test shoots only in Köln and Mannheim. Maybe you personally overtaped this film when you worked for Mafilm Dialog Studio in Budapest? ;-D Anyway... As I wrote earlier-future will shows how was there... |

Still absolutely pointless to post anything to QZ , exactly because of people like you - yes I did speak with Janos Zsombolyai, at least three times in the past 20 years, i even visited him once at home - the first time I saw the film was at the premiere on the 12th of Dec 1986, and i know more about the making of the fim than any fan , simply because i took the time and made a lot of enquires over the last 20 years. It was me who located the film negative reels and collected a lot of other information, which GB will confirm for you if you send him a nice letter. Keep on spreading bullshit about Mannheim and Cologne, instead of believeing the facts I wrote in my earlier post. ps/ films still cannot be overtaped ... at least you should realise this |

I was just referring to your last little 'CONCEITED' beginning of post about 'NEWBIES' and something about makes of legends. The fact that I'm not a regular at forums (generally I'm not at all-it does not amuse me-especially maybe by people like you which treat other in advance) does not mean that I have got knowledge of Queen group. I'm fan of Queen group only two years shorter like you. I don't want to write that I moved to England on couple years for my favourite band, who I saw, who I met 'cos it was my dream... it does not matter for this forum. I don't like brag like you. Nevermind. It's not like that I don't believe you. I'm willing to admit you're right. Some local TV stations often filming shows too. Besides Mannheim was shooted from helicopter. Maybe it shooted any TV station or it was filmed by band from Hungary. I don't know. Next time you reveal a little piece of mystery or refer to your another posts please. Every information is valuable. You don't attack people or grumble about any 'URBAN LEGENDS' just beginning of your post or any 'BULLSHITS' etc. I'm just keeping the video Budapest in my hands. Re-recorded over for the budapest gig? I could be wrong. But i really doubt that. Isn't one reason why budapest was so well filmed because the things needed to film were very cheap in that part of the world? I don't see why they would need to re-record over existing footage for that. EDIT: Oops, old thread |

I know full Mannheim video existed at some point, but I'm not sure if the tapes are still there. I've only seen very short snippets plus a news report (featuring a fragment of music) myself. |
