Can anyone tell me how many CD's I would have on my shelf if I would have a CD of every recorded concert?
A list would be awesome, but a number is fine too.
thnx!
Brian May once said they recorded every show after 1974, and this was probably just a raw mono recording, aux out. I recall one of the band members saying how they'd listen to the recording every night on the way back to the hotel to critique the performance. I heard or read this many years ago..
There's also the bit about John Harris in 'Queen - The Early Years'...on page 203 Trevor Cooper, a roadie for Queen support group Mr. Big, recalls:
"That bloke ate, drank and slept Queen," said Cooper. "It was all he thought about, all he cared about. He didn't seem to have any other life. He taped every single show and when we were on the tour bus the next day he would be listening to it on his headphones. he was that keen to get it spot-on night after night."
Great quote, thanks for that. Mr Big supported Queen in 1975, so there we go - from (at least) 1975 onward every show was most likely recorded. The question is, does John have the tapes, or did he give them back to the band?
I'm surprised no one has tracked down John Harris yet..he might be sitting on the motherlode. At the very least, I'd hope he kept some copies for himself, if he did turn over tapes to the band (i'm figuring most of those tapes wound up in their hands).
Also, considering he was with the band from the very beginning, he likely recorded many of the early shows as well, even before 1975. If only any of this information was available!
It's a shame that it's so difficult to get straight answers on this stuff. Maybe in twenty or thirty years we'll be able to look back and laugh at the days when we knew so little of what the Queen archive truly contained, and sit back and watch live videos and listen to live shows and demos we only could have imagined in this present day.
